Unfortunate circumstances, but this isn't the same as a productive member of society working two jobs and having to be sent back because of a spelling mistake.

The rule of law is what defines civilization. As opposed to, say, hunter-gatherer cultures that suffer famines, slavery and warfare with all the neighbouring tribes. Just saying.

Gee, if Ralph Goodale is ok with it, then the whole thing must be a simple mistake.

Any consequences for WalMart? Do employers ask to see valid work visas when hiring foreigners?

"The rule of law is what defines civilization."

Not when the 'law' is used to persecute and plunder the citizenry.

I had two aunties come over from Scotland a few years back. When they landed in Toronto one of them was taken and put back on a plane back right away. She was travelling on a valid passport but the problem was it was a joint husband/wife passport and her husband wasn't with her. She was 70 for Christs sake. This was at the same time people were flying into Canada from Africa with no passports claiming to be refugees from countries that they couldn't speak the language of and getting the royal treatment by customs.

/rant over.

But if they were Muslims, all would be forgiven. It would have been the politically correct thing to do. I'm surprised they were too honest to play the victim card simply by stating they were lesbians, guaranteeing a warm embrace to their new country.

The rule of law is what defines civilization.

No lance you just get off to LAWN'ORDER because you have an authority hard-on. Canada's byzantine student visa system is very much uncivilized and it is a disgrace that these innocent Nigerians were deported for WORKING. Trudeau/Mulcair/somebody should make a big deal about it.

What a freekin tool! Know nothing and Sh!t for brains troll ... go to Nigeria and lecture them.

Watched as a young fellow from Poland reported to Canada Customs and Immigration at major Canadian airport, coming for two months to visit his fiance in cottage country north of Toronto.

Had a job in Poland and plenty of money with him, happened to mention to Border Services person that he was a carpenter and was going to help his future father-in-law add a deck onto his cottage during his visit.

He was turned back - couldn't have him taking "employment" away from a Canadian, eh?

Border Security agents stormed the Wal Mart

SWAT team, guns drawn, forcing everybody on the ground, I am sure.
Good on us for applying the law for a change. Why do we have to always have to make exceptions especially for visitors to our country. Somehow, I don't think that Revenue Canada would make an exception for me if I tried to claim that on a tax issue.

For people on international scholarships, they are rather stupid. I don't feel sorry for them. Anyone on a visa should know the rules. Just the fact that it's called "student" visa is rather self-explanatory.

I've worked in two foreign countries on visas. I'm the first person to complain about customs/immigration/consulates etc. Kenny may be right that the law should be changed. But I'm the last person to break the rules - if you want to stay, you play by the rules. Those two idiots should be sent back. Maybe in Nigeria it's ok to break the law, but not in Canada.

Johnny,

I read your comment and had to chuckle about taking jobs from Canadians, considering my job was exported...

The hypocrisy in the grand scheme of things...

some of these ppl get bad advice from local idiots. I had a Mexican working for me who was getting bad advice from a "consultant" (lawyer) who advised him to claim refugee status by using a rediculus story. Course the idea is to have the claim fail so that they can keep trying and the CONsultant can keep milking them. This consultant wound up getting charged in both Ontario and New York state. I could not get this fella back into Canada even though he left on his own and paid his own fare back, was one hell of a good worker!!

But the law is the law, and by enforcing it breaking the law becomes less inviting

If the Social Insurance Number begins with a 9 an employer is obligated to see visa documents. Unfortunately no-one is aware of the requirement. I saw one person legally in Canada for maybe 25 years still using their temporary SIN.

Those two idiots should be sent back. Maybe in Nigeria it's ok to break the law, but not in Canada.

And that Rosa Parks character should totally mind her place at the back of the bus.

Deported for "working," eh? If that is so, then they would have been deported even it weren't illegal for them to have taken those jobs, so they are leaving Canada anyway.

Our government will not compromise on the integrity of our immigration system."

Odd them saying that when they where replacing Canadian workers with Immigrants by the back door. Most Royal bank IT workers know about that.

"Trudeau/Mulcair/somebody should make a big deal about it."

A 'libertarian' advocating for statists to 'do something'?

Lassie the entertainment is back, in full idiot mode!!!

these two Walmart bound job thieves are clearly a threat to our national security. They will no doubt be hustled out of the country swiftly while convicted illegals will milk the system ensuring Toronto Immigration lawyers will enjoy the bounty from the taxpayer's wallet. Probably the same tax dollar that Walmart deducted from the two Nigerians' pay cheque.

Well Lance I failed to link my reply to wit-LAS and his moronic lecturing.

Ah. I thought you were talking about me and saw how my words could be construed as talking about Nigeria. No harm, no foul.

Oh come on, this was just a stupid decision.

This isn't really "rule of law" so much as the gov't sticking to "policy" in the face of common sense.

Now, let that be a lesson to you. You can stay in Canada illegally for decades as long as you don't work! What do you think we have welfare for?
