China will win this battle over the oil-rich island territories. All they have to do is obfuscate and delay for a few years,and America's position will be even more untenable than it already is,and the Yanks will have a new short-term President to continue their capitulation to globalization.

The last time Japan tried "manage their own defense and affairs" the US had to nuke them. Since then we have encouraged them to rely on US for most of their defense. It's in our interest for this to continue. Of course they would be fools to do so . . .

I agree with the 'American dependent' concept. I am sure that the USA has always enjoyed the paternal relationship. Canada has not done anything to make them think otherwise. If we had any where withal we would have joined the 13 independent colonies and kicked the Brits out then. It might have meant joining the USA at that time but that wasn't a certainty.
I suspect a Arab conspiracy which includes individuals, bought politicans both Canadian and American and oil interests who are subverting Canada's attempt to develop the oil sands. As much as this conspiracy hurts Canadian interests a large increase in Canadian oil production could cause the collapse of 4 or 5 ME oil producing dictatorships.
When will Canadians wake up and smell the crude?
