Edythe Wright's musical career, all of it spent with the great trombonist Tommy Dorsey's groups, began when she was a 21-year-old rank amateur and ended just four years later in 1939, but her distinctive, husky, alto voice - she didn't exactly sound like she fell off of a turnip truck the day before -- lives on in over a hundred recordings. A lively number from her work with Dorsey's dixieland combo Clambake Seven was one of the Tips music selections some months ago; tonight, backed by his full orchestra, Wright sings a romantic tune called You and I Know.

I have a theory that about 1/7(ish) of people are semi-functioning psychotics. Brauer strikes me as that sort.
Your theory might be right, but in the case of people like Brauer I think it's actually just an untenable surfeit of dumb, bloated, self-pleasuring self-righteousness. I've met more than a few of those people in East Van and elsewhere. Certain trigger words/phrases - guns, Thatcher, racism, global warming, Bush, rich -- provide them with an opportunity to demonstrate how committed they are to being really awesome, super-wickedly informed and deeply moral people. Once they develop the habit they're essentially murderous, but it's all for a good cause.

Great song--relatively free of the pops and scratching so synonymous to old 78's.
I had a friend (God bless his soul) who was partly disabled due to diabetes and kidney failure. He had set up a turntable and ran the 78 RPM records through a computer (PC) then copied them on a CD. He (somehow) cleaned up the pops and scratching from the music. When I`d ask him how he did that, he`s say, ''None of your business, just enjoy the songs.''

Radio Canada (French) TV has produced an excellent series on the Mulroney years. I`m shocked at how they actually portrayed him and the PC as having been an efficient administration. In turn--Mulroney admits to his errors. Just too bad they (media) weren`t saying that back in 88!
