2007: Hope Beats Fear

Yesterday:

The province's population increased by 20,757 since July 2012 and by 106,255 in just six years. The provincial government says Saskatchewan hasn't seen such a population growth since the 25 years after it became a province in 1905.

Population growth....that's what ya get with jobs and economic activity....

That's what attracted all the arabs to sparcely populated Palestine after the Jewish folk started returning....30,000 Syrians arrived on the eve of independence....

There is always that Luddite background theme in socialist thinking.

So, what do you attribute this to...windmills or solar panels?

Good for Saskatchewan. In the early '90s my chiropractor here in Ottawa was from Saskatoon. She told me that almost all her childhood friends had left the province to find work. Nice to see the trend reversed. Now if the cod stocks could just rebound....

That was one stem-winder for a speech and I've heard many, from T.C. Douglas forward.

Al - yup, I sure do miss them Saskatchewan cod.

Alberta over 4 million people! Not long before they overtake B.C.

A few of my family, cousins mainly, have packed up and left Alberta for Saskatchewan. Mainly it cost to much to stay. There they have lots of cheap land a conservative government and a lot fewer regulations.

The current Sask government is not significantly more 'conservative' than the last NDP government.

Conservative compared to Alberta.

Hey, that's great!
That stat is also loaded with thousands of proto-jihadis.

you must be confusing SK with Ontario!!!
by the way, you should change your moniker to LIC. aka "low information commentator". you really are one of a kind, thank God!!

Gonna be a lot of cheap real estate in a few years. Saskatchewan booms never last, the socialism is too deeply engrained.

I wonder how manyof the new migrants to Saskatchewan are from Ontario.

Well, that fear is in the back of the minds of many people, but all those people coming back or are moving in hopefully do not have a history of supporting Marxists. Besides, every ten thousand more people defuses the clout the government unions have.

The Saskatchewan Party came from PROGRESSIVE conservative and Liberal party members, how can a party with those members (and the PC's dumped most of the Reformers -actual right wingers- as members) possibly become Conservative? I hear the political insights of Stephanie Langenegger and Murray Mandryk decry the "right-wing" & "conservative" government of Mr. Wall on the CBC (2 weeks running) and have to agree with LAS. Conservative governments don't continue the spending the way the SP has, the way the NDP had.
They are right wing only in the fashion that Josef Stalin considered (and convinced the world) Adolf Hitler to be right wing.
Business investors have only returned as the NDP are now convincingly out of power for the forseeable future, thus we have growth.

"Stephanie Langenegger and Murray Mandryk decry the "right-wing" & "conservative" government of Mr. Wall"

Murray Mandryk is a bona fide idiot who has been crying in his soup ever since the NDP were turfed. His moronic columns in the Star Phoenix contributed greatly to my decision to cancel my subscription to that rag.

C Miner, I was referring to the exodus of Newfies and Nova Scotians since the federally managed fisheries collapsed. I am willing to bet there are more Newfies on the mainland than on the rock right now. Every Newf I've ever met is homesick.

They also said that a plow was to be made of wood, and steel would never work.

The only thing that surprises me here. Is there are not more people heading towards Saskatchewan for job opportunities. But beware though what you wish for.
From the Eastern Canadian invasion, Alberta has almost been culturally destroyed, as the economic refuges bring the sickness of socialism with them.
Its like Austin in Texas.
Just look at Calgary or the UN flunky that now runs Alberta.
Collectivist foul the nest every time.

This is exactly what I was referring to.

The displaced Maritimers have enriched the culture of Vancouver Island, which is why 'Buddywasisname and the otherfellers' is so popular in the Comox Valley. Newfs are coastal people.
