Not once, not ever or to rephrase, NEVER has a increase in debt ceiling been followed by a reduction of debt. And I'm the idiot...

Sure raising the debt ceiling doesn't raise the debt. Raising the debt ceiling is the government giving itself permission to raise the debt. Which they then do. Every time they raise the debt ceiling.

(But I don't think that's what President Obama meant. I think he meant to persuade his low information voter base to believe something that isn't true and that he knows isn't true.)

Maybe I'll try it, go see my banker tomorrow and ask for a five million dollar line of credit but tell them not to worry because having it doesn't mean I'll use it. Do I have to tell them that it's highly unlikely that I'll ever pay the money back?

That means borrowing money to service current ongoing obligations will be at higher interest, which will increase the debt.

Obama knows this at least, even if he can't 'do math'.

Back to the main topic, this is like saying that raising the speed limit will not result in cars going faster on that section of road. Sometimes, if you put things in terms they're more accustomed to, the stupid becomes more obvious.
