Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke on the phone for a couple of minutes on Friday, and NBC News breathlessly reported that this was "the first time leaders from the U.S. and Iran have directly communicated since the 1979 Iranian revolution."
That's not exactly true. Hassan Rouhani is not Iran's leader.

About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Iran wants the sanctions eased and I sure they feel the amateur in chief will deliver.
Why let truth stand in the way of a good story?
I was wondering when someone would bring up this fact, that Rouhani is merely the politician in charge. The real leader,Atatollah Ali Khameini, pbuh, has not been heard from, and he certainly hasn't deigned to meet with the Community Organizer in the White House.
I can only speculate on how low Obama would bow to the Ayatollah should the latter ever lower himself to meet with the Amateur.
Head on the floor and a little kiss on the feet?
Rouhani doesn't lead Iran; the Shi'ite Old Guard (Khomaniacs) lead by 'Grand Ayatollah' Khamenei do. Just as in the US. Obama doesn't call the shots; the Politburo behind Obama does. Rouhani, Obama, QE2, Karzai --- all titular leaders.
What language did they speak?
I wonder if Totten was reminding us of that when bogeyman Ahmadinejad was President.
sure hope "TOILET" reads that one, may just cause his head to explode!!!
I think it quite possible that easing sanctions is only one of the games in play here, the other being Iran pretending, and forcing Syria to go along, to be willing to negotiate, all the while distracting attention from the fact they are making an end dash to the "bomb", and once tested, in Iran or Nork, there will be no turning back. They will probably be ready to assemble the next bomb rite after the test, and be able to wave it around like a threatening fist. Interesting to see were Israel will go with this, her very survival may rest on how she handles this situation!!
A little off topic, but watch here as Obama cracks a joke about red lines to Benjamin Netenyahu back in March -

As one commenter stated, "he chuckles when he does white lines as well".
This article explains why the West, especially Europe who will be within range of Iranian rockets, and the rest of the Middle East fear the Iranian regime.
Notable is that Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world.
If allowed to develop nuclear weapons, the Iranian regime (not the Persian people) will use them to blackmail, intimidate and extort other countries.
Think North Korea on a larger scale.
This is part of the back story going on in Syria. The Sunni jihadis can't be allowed to control another country as they did in Afghanistan, attempting in Somalia and North Africa.
The long war is a complicated one, far more so than most of our political leaders and the MSM understand.
Yeah, not exactly big news: two non-leaders talking on the phone.
