I recently interviewed Eric Trager, a scholar at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He's a real expert on Egypt and has been more consistently right than just about anyone. He called out the Muslim Brotherhood as an inherently authoritarian organization while scores of other supposed "experts" falsely pimped it as moderate. And contrary to claims from the opposing camp, that the army "restored" democracy with its coup, he saw the recent bloody unpleasantness coming well in advance.
I spoke to him before this week's massacre happened, but it's clear from his remarks that he suspected something like it was coming.
Excellent interview.

Muslims killing Muslims... so what?
Cut all foreign aid and leave them alone to work it out.
We have no right to meddle in the affairs of other sovereign nations.
If it was only mussies vs mussies then I too wouldn't give a rat's patootie but when all this crap is going on and they try to obliterate the Christian minority then I am concerned... especially since bambam keeps on sending F-16s over to them.
It seems that Morsi and his crew were elected to "fundamentally change Egypt" but to do that they needed to impose unpopular, undemocratic, ideological laws, and crash the economy in the process.
Sounds familiar; except in Egypt's case the population was hurting enough to actually do something about it.
Unfortunately, Egypt is in no win situation as far as moderation and democracy.
Does not matter who will eventually hold the power, the Egyptians will be screwed.
The thing is that majority of them are OK with that, at least that is the way it appears.
Like the colonel on O’Reilly said yesterday, let the people decide. Don’t mess with it. It’s their country, it’s on the Egyptian people’s backs. They will have to live with the results.
Does anybody know an Arab country that lives in democracy or even something resembling that?
Jordan seem to be getting along though democracy it is not.
All the rest are ruled by despots, oligarchs, dictators or religious nuts.
Egyptians will be screwed. The thing is that majority of them are OK with that...
Obviously they're not OK with that, instead it seems that the current situation shows that Egyptians are not prepared to be ruled by "religious nuts".
You didn't have to be prescient to see this coming.
Unfortunately, Egyptians who had lived outside of Egypt for several years began to apply the standards of their adopted homes to Egypt. Under such circumstances, the Mubarak regime was unacceptable (and by our own standards it probably was). However, to believe that there were acceptable alternatives (by their new found standards) was naive in the extreme.
The so-called "Arab Spring" had the full support of expat Egyptians who should have known better; which, in turn, was fed by the "hopey-changey" rhetoric coming from the newly elected Obama administration. For the White House not to see its role in this is beyond farce.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to foresee "a way out" that doesn't involve more violence.
Why would the Muslim Brotherhood ever be considered moderate? People aren't just ignorant; they are willfully so.
I'm seeing only a few details that make the Muslim Brotherhood different from communist agent provocateurs.
But doesn't anyone care about the pyramids? Or the sphinx, or the hyroglifics or......
Oh, never mind.
The MB would have already burnt those down if they were flammable...
Which few Osumashi??

That's what it mostly is. In any war there is always collateral damage.
It's none of our business. If you're personally concerned, send your own money.
The hardcore obedience to the cause, the silencing of opponents, the creation of divisions within the Egyptian military and populace. It rings a bell.
Egypt just missed getting democracy by about 80 million crazy Moes and a collective IQ deficit of fourteen trillion.
Hitler got into power through democratic means and then erased all constraints to his power until he had dictatorial power.
The Muslim Brotherhood got into power through democratic means and were in the process of assuming dictatorial power when the Egyptian military stopped them.
"The Brotherhood’s power is not derived from mass public support and it never has been. It is derived from its exceptional organization capabilities on one hand, and the fact that the rest of Egypt is deeply divided and highly disorganized on the other."
Good article.
The only difference I can see is the pigmentation of the perps...am I crazy..?..
Nope.
Unless you ask some liberal in denial but you can say that the Egyptians are white Hispanics...
Egyptians are not prepared to be ruled by "religious nuts".

I believe the Army leaders know that its now time,
or never, to get rid of the muzzie brothers.
It will be just like the Syrian civil war.
We need to send more weapons of good destruction.
Egyptian civilians and the army will continue to kill most of the muzzie brotherhood and take their country back.
War is Hell,
but if they surrender to these terrorists, it will be a bitch..
Hundreds of thousands will be killed in the Middle East,
and Oblamer gets a peace prize.

After thousands of years of evolution and development, organization, compromise, wars ... etc. Humanity now in huge numbers are going through a period of global insanity that we may or may not survive. The muslims and Americans are the most insane, but the rest of us ain't quire right either.
I continue to state that this must be regarded as entertainment.
Loss of privacy = privacy by anonymity. They can't monitor 7 billion people. That is a logistical impossibility. Most of us are inconsequential in the big scheme, so don't worry too much about it. Drive basic sedan and keep a low profile and you can continue to get away with a hell of lot of subversion.

Not even those, like Egypt, that are important enough to trigger unpleasantness with global implications?
correct
Americans tend to blow everything out of proportion to increase the paranoia used to control their sheeple.
Egypt is what threat to North America?
Anyone who has read Lawrence Wright's "The Looming Tower" understands who and what the Muslim Brotherhood is. Anybody who has not read yet this book needs to-
The Saudi's fund extremism, the Iranians provide the infrastructure to implement it, smaller countries provide the targets for our drones or to carry the suicide vests, but it has been Egypt, it has long been Egypt who has been the font of the intellectual underpinnings for Islamic extremists.
