Obama did what he did to look good. He had an election to win. He would be seen as a decisive strongman if bin Laden was killed. He would be in prison if Stevens talked.

He needed some time to relax and think about the pitch he was going to make at the fundraiser the next night and he had to be all smooth and cool about it.
