Sadly, this practice of borrowing money from pension funds etc. to stave off the debt limit is old hat. It happens every time.

It's like people won't actually take a cliff seriously until they fall off it. But one of these times a real crisis will coincide with their brinksmanship, and their carefully constructed house of cards will collapse. The more they push the envelope, the closer they get to disaster.

It's like an earthquake. Nobody can tell if it will happen tomorrow or in fifty years. But happen it will.

The sad thing is that because no one can predict when it happens, by the time it does most people will have discounted it, and won't be prepared.
