I do think that burbling on about the butchering of the Chechyns is misplaced. As the Boston bombing showed (not to mention much bloodier acts of terror within Russia) the Chechyns are eager and willing to do butchery themselves. Putin may have had a certain genuine humanitarian sentiment in sheltering Edward Snowden, as well as the skill to exploit a diplomatic windfall. Indeed, if the Foulness is too unpleasant, Snowden can be unleashed to provide the world with more revelations of the American police state.

In any event, whatever Edward Snowden's motivations might have been, we owe him some gratitude for exposing some of the illegalities of the US administration's actions.

Obama thought it was going to be so easy.

All he had to do was not be Bush. Obama just had to open his arms and his heart and quit being judgmental, and international love, peace, and cooperation would flow like wine at an Italian wedding. Even the Nobel committee said so.

Turns out, love, peace, and cooperation are in short supply when dealing with oppressive theocracies who view America as the great Satan and who have not a whit of use for human rights. Turns out that many of the world's woes are not caused by American dominance, but perhaps exist in spite of it.

This is a mistake, IMO, because bottom feeders in government are like cancer in a human, they poison from the inside and contaminate the host from the heart of the entity.
