We don't know that the snake owner was stupid. All we know is that whatever precautions were taken, they weren't infallible. Which is not surprising. Even zoos are not infallible, people get killed in zoos too. Even well designed famous ones. It happens a hell of a lot more often than kids getting killed by pythons, for sure.

So long as the prevailing philosophy is "people are stupid, they must be controlled" this is what we are going to get.

The real irony here is that whatever regulations get made from this, they will not prevent the next fluke accident. Because its a FLUKE. A one-off, unforseeable, -accident-.

Stuff happens. Sometimes bad stuff. It's a tragedy. Accept it and move on, or be burdened with the ever-increasing tyranny of socialist governance.

Ironically, you never hear of a loaded gun spontaneously leaving its lockup and killing someone.

I am not a lawyer, but I can't see any possible basis for a murder charge in this case. Murder has to be a constructive act on the part of the perpetrator. Criminal negligence, maybe, if the dangerous animal was not housed securely.

Me, I wonder about the parents in this case. Why would they let young children sleep in the same building as a potentially-lethal wild animal?

In any case, more laws are not needed. If there is remedy to be found, let it be found in the enforcement of existing laws, or in the civil courts.

No, the issue here is a system that grows fat by suckering you into thinking this is anything other than a once-in-a-generation accident. There's a hell of a lot of exotic pets in Ontario, and years go by between fatal attacks on third parties by those pets.

I used to have a Golden Retriever. He could have killed a four year old quick as a wink if he had a mind to do so. A lot quicker that some python, for sure. Any dog of a decent size could. And occasionally, they DO. By surprise. No warning.

Shall we have all dog ownership banned, or perhaps all dog owners should be burdened with a network of regulations and inspections to ensure nothing bad could ever happen?

No. That would be stupid, right? And yet people do die from dog attacks. Or horse kicks. Or from being gored by cattle.

Shall every guy whose horse kicks some doofus that doesn't know to stand back have his life ruined by the courts? So maybe use the cranium a bit regarding the snake thing.
