“Far from turning the Earth into a baking lifeless hell as had been thought, elevated levels of atmospheric CO2 are causing the deserts of the world to bloom with new green foliage…
That’s according to new research from government scientists in Australia, who’ve been scanning the planet’s formerly dry and lifeless regions using satellite imagery.
“We found a strong link between the rise in atmospheric CO2 concentrations and a greening that’s been observed across many of the world’s arid environments,” explains Dr Randall Donohue of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency.

Something fishy is happening around Lack Megantic story, all around a question “Where are the train engines?”
On 10th of July CNN says:
“The engines and nine other cars remained behind when the rest of the train broke away sometime later. They stopped a quarter of a mile away from their original parking spot in Nantes.”
And exactly how did it happen? Railway cars passing the engines on the track?
Also Wikipedia under “Lac-Mégantic derailment” says:
“Soon after being left once again unattended, the freight train began moving downhill on its own toward the town.[37] The 72 loaded tank cars detached from the five locomotives and buffer car approximately 800 metres (0.50 mi) from Lac-Mégantic, then entered the town at high speed[38] and derailed on a curve.[2][39]” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lac-M%C3%A9gantic_derailment)
Did somebody actually PUSHED the tankers to make sure they reach Lac Megantic and at high speed at that (and then stopped to escape)?

EBD, now you made me want to dig out my Herb Alpert records. I had almost forgotten that women used to wear dresses.
Herb Albert Spanish Flea. That was and still is good road music to listen to while driving the endless highways of good old Saskatchewan in an F-150.
Interesting indeed. The events as described on the wiki page don’t add up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lac-M%C3%A9gantic_derailment Yves Bourdon, director of the MMA, told CBC that the air brakes of all locomotives and wagons were all activated, as well as hand brakes (mechanical) on 5 locomotives and 10 cars.
If the hand brakes were set and tested as per regs, then someone would have to manually release enough hand brakes for the train to move.
It would seem that the brakes were not set and tested, or someone tampered with them.
In BLDR’s closing yesterday, in which he was attempting to convince the jury that the state had proven guilt beyond reasonable doubt, he said this.
“We don’t know what happened” “No one can be sure”.
Just in case the lack of evidence wasn’t enough for the jurors, this should do it.
Who the bloody hell do these people think they are? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/would-be-canadian-citizens-set-to-fight-oath-to-queen-as-discriminatory/article13160104/ A small group [three people] of landed immigrants with republican views who have refused Canadian citizenship because the ceremony involves swearing an oath to the Queen will be in a Toronto courtroom on Friday, facing off with the federal government in an attempt to have this citizenship requirement declared unconstitutional. But with a royal baby on they way, and a federal government under Prime Minister Stephen Harper that has dedicated itself to reviving the country’s connection to the monarchy – restoring the word Royal to the Royal Canadian Air Force, among other measures – the dissenters may have their work cut out for them.
By the last paragraph, it’s clear where the Probe and Fail is coming from: “the dissenters have their work cut out for them.”
Let me change that sentence for you: “But with a federal government under Prime Minister Harper that has dedicated itself to reviving the country’s connection to the monarchy … their insolent affront to their chosen country of adoption — Canada didn’t ask for the pleasure of their republican company — is unconscionable.”
These asshats knew what the requirements of citizenship were when they arrived in Canada and contemplated becoming citizens. Canadian citizens will decide whether or not Canada has a Monarch, not brazen would-be- Canadian republican anarchists.
To these dissatisfied immigrants: Get the hell out of Canada if you don’t like our citizenship requirements and leave it to Canadian citizens to decide whether this requirement is unconstitutional.
‘Figures: One dissenter is a former Star journalist, who’s enjoyed Canada’s hospitality since 1964, another is a Rastafarian, and another, a complaining feminist.
The hostile exchange began when Judge Debra Nelson asked Zimmerman if he planned to testify. Essentially, Judge Nelson told Zimmerman he had the “absolute right to remain silent” but then proceeded to demand he answer her questions interrogation-style while silencing his lawyers. Defense attorney Don West twice objected to Nelson’s interrogation, prompting the judge to raised her voice and exclaim, “Your objection is overruled!” in a manner more befitting of an angry parent lecturing a child than a legal professional.
Both of Zimmerman’s lawyers appeared shocked as attorney Mark O’Mara asked under his breath, “what is going on?”
Several legal experts and observers said the outburst was unprecedented..
Also from above, same link:
Former Senatorial candidate Richard Rivette also expressed his shock at the judge’s behavior. “This judge is an idiot. I spent five years investigating high profile capital cases defending people from the death penalty, and worked for the Federal judiciary as an independent investigator on other cases. No judge ever inquires as to whether a defendant will testify until the entire defense case is presented. If the defense rests and does not call the defendant then the judge knows there will be no testimony. If the defense calls the defendant then that’s when the judge finds out. They have to get through the entire case first. To see if it is valid after prosecution cross-examines their witnesses and experts as to whether a defendant SHOULD testify, which is decided in private not in public, and NOT on the record. By doing this, the judge has undermined a portion of Zimmerman’s credibility. He looks like he is waffling and this is normal judge/defendant questioning, which it is NOT,” said Rivette.

Thanks for Angelo M. Codevilla’s superb essay/treatise, Robert of Ottawa.
Thanks for that Robert. It took an hour to read it properly. The content of this essay is exactly what Hayek was warning about during the 1930s and 40s, and looking around today it appears he was right. Lenin, Stalin, and Hitler were just too much in a hurry.
Incredible read and so much food for thought.
“The ruling class’s appetite for deference, power, and perks grows. The country class disrespects its rulers, wants to curtail their power and reduce their perks. The ruling class wears on its sleeve the view that the rest of Americans are racist, greedy, and above all stupid. The country class is ever more convinced that our rulers are corrupt, malevolent, and inept. The rulers want the ruled to shut up and obey. The ruled want self-governance. The clash between the two is about which side’s vision of itself and of the other is right and which is wrong. Because each side — especially the ruling class — embodies its views on the issues, concessions by one side to another on any issue tend to discredit that side’s view of itself. One side or the other will prevail. The clash is as sure and momentous as its outcome is unpredictable.”
Seems to me that the country class is badly outnumbered but it’s a fight I would relish. The greatest hope is that the military seems to be on the correct side. The question is who and what lights the spark to set the wheels in motion ?
