Reader Tips

Most people are familiar with tonight’s song via Tiny Tim’s jokey, falsetto novelty version from 1968, but when you hear it sung by Annette Hanshaw in her confidently playful, relaxed, almost conversational voice, backed by a deft little arrangement, it’s actually quite a lovely and….non-grating piece of early popular music. From 1929, here’s Tiptoe Through the Tulips.

  1. From Malcolm Pollack’s Culture And Metaculture:

Under modernity’s ascendant doctrine, the long history of the West is only a litany of sins, deserving not propagation, but repudiation. We have no legacy, no heritage, to cherish for posterity; we have pulled up our own roots. If our new American “culture” has any history worth remembering at all, it is no more than a few decades old, and consists almost entirely of the destruction of the past.

  2. Thomas Sowell: “Who Is Racist?”

I am so old that I can remember when most of the people promoting race hate were white.

Apparently other Americans also recognize that the sources of racism are different today from what they were in the past. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 31 percent of blacks think that most blacks are racists, while 24 percent of blacks think that most whites are racist.

The difference between these percentages is not great, but it is remarkable nevertheless…

  3. Does anyone else find it ironic that the msm have been cutting and pasting twitter feeds to update residents in disaster areas? While reading the articles on the Toronto and Calgary floods they were comprised mostly of twitter feeds.
What would we do without journalists.

  4. Or at least, for the sake of scrupulous accuracy, this article is calling for the court case itself to be more racialized.
““We are going to have to have a dialogue in this nation about racial matters,” Mr. Oliver said.”
    Yeah. That’s what’s missing.

  5. I don’t think it’s been mentioned yet that human sh*tsack Vic Toews is removing himself from government entirely by leaving cabinet and parliament. That this ‘man’ was actually within cabinet is an incredibly disturbing and terminal indictment of Harper’s mythical intelligence. There are…whispers…that his replacement might be…Fantino…just when you thought this government couldn’t get any worse.

  6. How interesting. A message to teachers in the Toronto Catholic District School Board:
A Notice of Election has been issued for by-elections in the electoral districts of Etobicoke-Lakeshore, London West, Ottawa South, Windsor-Tecumseh and Scarborough-Guildwood.
Elections Ontario is currently seeking workers to fill a number of roles. Eligible candidates must be at least 16 years of age.

  7. The headline at CBC.Ca at 8:00 AM CST read: ”Can a cabinet shuffle re-energize Harper’s government?”
    My answer was:
PS: ”More drivel against the finest country in the world.”
The reason for my answer was comments such as John417`s:
”Good old Steve, you either love him or hate him. Fortunately for Canada 70% of Canadians have no use for him or his ilk.”
About ten minutes after my comment was published, it was disabled.
Good old CBC. You either love it, or hate it!!
