Feeling a bit irritable tonight? Misanthropic to the point of apoplexy? Looking for someone to take it out on, to be a lightning rod for your contempt? Well, imagine sitting around a campfire with a bunch of friends and seeing a 1965-issue Barry McGuire wander over from a neighbouring campsite, grab a beer, affect a wide stance, and start singing Eve of Destruction.
It never happened but I’m still annoyed about it.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

Some people are just not that impressed with McGuinty. Where were they before he was re elected to continue on with his destruction ?

News you will never see on CBC or any other Lamestream news. Thousands of Moslems blocking people from their homes 5 times a day, and shutting down whole sections of Paris 5 times a day for prayers. The media will not report and the Police will do nothing. Canada is letting thousands of them in here every year. Tell the government no more Moslem immigration of any kind. http://downloads.cbn.com/cbnnewsplayer/cbnplayer.swf?aid=17933
Taliban Jack was right, look who’s listening to the Taliban now.
We are on the path to destruction, but barring a match that lights the fuse of panic, it will be more like a slow motion train wreck and then the last second before the crash eyes will open and everyone will exclaim OMG and WTF.
That train derailment in Quebec. Mighty suspicious and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if these eco freaks were behind it.

Barry McGuire–The Eve of Destruction.
I did enjoy the song back then. Today, I look at as something along the lines of the CBC National!
Not much good to say about Russia, but they are not as politically correct as we are, and I do like that.

The article in the first comment (EBD on July 6, 2013 10:05 PM) makes the Mounties in High River appear almost saintly. It looks more like a home invasion than a police action and should be treated as such.
Love this guy and his take on Global Warming.

Good lord, I don’t even want to KNOW what my blood pressure spiked to when I read that story, EBD.
That entire police department needs to be scuttled.
Hard to limit Muslim immigration to Canada because for one thing, Quebec favours people who have French as a first, second or third language. So people from Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, etc. get extra points.

“German solar firm Conergy files for insolvency”
“The Hamburg-based solar panel manufacturer Conergy has filed for insolvency. It is the latest business in Germany’s solar energy industry to run into drastic financial upheaval.
Conergy filed for insolvency at the Hamburg district court on Friday. The company had long been suffering from Germany’s solar industry crisis, but said they were “confident” of finding an investor to continue the business.”
“The Bonn-based SolarWorld is also on the brink of ruin after a severe price war, with bondholders set to meet next week to come up with a reorganization plan.”

Why O says no go to XL pipeline.
No pipelines, please; we’re train cars.
“Trinity Industries Inc. (TRN), the biggest railcar producer, began converting wind-tower factories last year to help meet demand for train cars that can transport the petroleum product.”
““People who want to ship oil can’t get them,” Toby Kolstad, president of the consultant firm Rail Theory Forecasts LLC said, referring to railcars. “They’re desperate to get anything to move crude oil.”

“Buffett Like Icahn Reaping Tank Car Boom From Shale Oil”
“Warren Buffett and Carl Icahn are reaping the benefits of surging demand for railroad tank cars to haul shale oil from beyond the reach of existing pipelines.
Buffett’s Union Tank Car Co. is working at full capacity and Icahn’s American Railcar Industries Inc. (ARII) has a backlog through 2014. Trinity Industries Inc. (TRN), the biggest railcar producer, began converting wind-tower factories last year to help meet demand for train cars that can transport the petroleum product.
All three are getting a boost from a shale-oil boom that’s poised to make the U.S. the world’s largest crude producer by 2020. Rail carloads of crude tripled last year to more than 200,000, and demand for tanks designed for it soared, helping both Trinity and American Railcar outstrip the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.
“People who want to ship oil can’t get them,” Toby Kolstad, president of the consultant firm Rail Theory Forecasts LLC said, referring to railcars. “They’re desperate to get anything to move crude oil.”
The shortage is exacerbated by makers who are keeping many of the tank cars they produce to supply their own leasing businesses, where rates in some cases have more than quadrupled to $2,500 a month. The manufacturers also are wary of boosting production too much and getting caught with unsold cars as they did in an earlier coal boom.”

EBD provides a link early in the thread to some amazing colourized historical photographs, most likely via his earlier tip to bookmark American Digest.
Amazing site esp. if, like me, you’ve come to feel that most partisan political punditry is only so much cheerleading for this wing over that wing of the crime family.
While the site is conservative it is extremely diverse in its topic matter.
First thing this morning, at about 5 am, I must have spent an hour on this site including an extended look at those colourized pix.
Many riches in the side bar on the right.

Great story maz2, optimism on a Sunday morning is good 🙂
Perhaps an interesting development in the Quebec oil car derailment. It appears that the train was parked, but then some how the brakes were released, causing the out of control train to derail somehow.
How did the brakes release?
Apparently earlier on that evening, a fire had to be dealt with on the train. Fishy.
Anybody read Gunter’s articles in the Sun? He’s on the rcmp over their breakins in High River. Even by Canadian standards this kind of police behaviour can’t be tolerated.
This event should scare all Canadians not just conservatives. Have we now finally slipped into the third world with respect to what the rcmp can get away with? What’s next? Who’s next?
One might reasonably expect a blog like SDA would be all over this.
And when someone calls Warren out on his bullshit story, this is the reply….

“Origin of a Legend”
“A clue to the source of the enormous destructive power of the Obama administration’s blunders in the Middle East is contained in Victor Hugo’s novel, Ninety Three. It contains a famous chapter describing the struggle to contain a five ton carronade that has broken loose from its mountings and was now veering around the hull, smashing everything before it. It is where we get the phrase “loose cannon”. Here is Hugo’s dramatic description.
At the moment when the fastenings gave way, the gunners were in the battery, some in groups, others scattered about, busied with the customary work among sailors getting ready for a signal for action. The carronade, hurled forward by the pitching of the vessel, made a gap in this crowd of men and crushed four at the first blow; then sliding back and shot out again as the ship rolled, it cut in two a fifth unfortunate, and knocked a piece of the battery against the larboard side with such force as to unship it. This caused the cry of distress just heard. All the men rushed to the companion-way. The gun-deck was vacated in a twinkling.
The enormous gun was left alone. It was given up to itself. It was its own master and master of the ship. It could do what it pleased. This whole crew, accustomed to laugh in time of battle, now trembled.
The same words, with some alterations, might be used to describe the terrible forces unleashed by the administration’s attempts at proxy warfare — “leading from behind” as it is called — that has set sects, countries and regional terror groups against each other. These monsters are now being fed by enormous inputs of energy: the loose weaponry of Libya, the competing financial supports of Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and the occasional help of American and Western military airpower.
Like the “loose cannon” of Hugo’s story, the forces unleashed by the errors or incompetence or bad luck of the administration are now smashing apart country after country, community after community, releasing arsenal after arsenal.”
