Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I guess the drunks will eventually figure out to attack bystanders instead of TTC employees. No jail time for hitting Joe Average, right?
Uh, I know no one actually reads the links, but:
First reported assault was April 18. Last assault was June 10. One assault in between those dates. That’s 3 physical assaults in 63 days, which is a far cry from “one per day”.
The clue is the definition of “assault” – threatening physical harm is included. So on a hot afternoon, after your bus has been short-turned and you’re turfed out on the pavement to swelter while waiting for the next bus, where that driver gives you attitude because your transfer is ‘out of time’, and you respond with “I’d like to smash your smug, unionized face”, that’s assault. I suspect anytime anyone raises their voice or uses profanity to the many (but not all) drivers and ticket collectors who act as if they’re doing us a favour by stopping to pick us, or sell us 7 tokens, it’s counted as “assault”.
The poor dears.
The TTC carries about 1.6 million people per day, so why wouldn’t there be criminal activity?
Fortunately drivers never behave criminally.

Gee John, you must be a kid. Because I remember when there WASN’T any crime on the TTC. Like, none. That would have been as recently as 1979, 1980 when I first moved to T.O. A ten year old could ride by themselves all over town in perfect safety, and hordes of them did every day to school and home.
But then, things went down hill rather sharply. By the time I left in disgust, 1992, the TTC was a pretty dodgy ride after dark on some routes. These days the whole thing is dodgy, even on the main lines, even in daytime.
Wonder how that happened, eh John?
What the hell is a “Varatharajan Ponnampalam”
HEY. Your union hornswackled a bunch of all most as far left as you politico’s,to be paid over 100G/yr to drive.Suck it up,buttercup.
And as per Phantom…when was the last time you rode feeling safe on public transit? I remember when men got up to give an older man/woman/pregnant gal/Mom with stroller and kids a seat. Damn I date myself.
that’d be a Tamil, with short name
never did like pubic transit!!!!
try flying with the upper middle class….it’s worse.
Oh oh oh, I know!!! Liberal immigration policies that excluded folks from the UK and such.
We used to go visit my grandparents who came from the old country and I would ride the TTC with my brother. I’m trying to remember but I think the key years were 1970-73.
Oh, I’m sure the TTC was a gleaming utopia back when you were but a young rightwing nutter on the streets of TO. And despite the fact that violent crime stats have been going steadily down for the past decade, and now hover at their lowest level since 1973, I’m sure you have secret data.
The TTC is still an incredibly safe way to travel. You can’t and won’t see that because your conservative brain won’t let you. Conservatives live in fear. It’s a sad way to go through life.
