Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

It should surprise nobody that Chico is home to a campus of the California state university system (which is probably the biggest employer in town).
Don’t laugh at this. Several years ago Toronto City Council declared the city a nuclear-free zone and there hasn’t been a nuclear explosion there since.
It would be nice if this could be written off as the abject stupidity of a few ward-heelers in Chico County council. The truth is more frightening. These politicians are doing exactly what they need to do to keep their seats. From the idiotic no-nuke fines to the huge deficits, they are responding to public pressure.
Californians really Believe in this crap.
Where is Zoro when we need him?
The editorial ‘Hits and Misses’ where it lists the fine going down for your first nuclear bomb offence also lists in order:
1. A congrats to graduating students is a ‘Hit’ and that’s fine.
But
2. The County is writing “strongly worded letters to the federal government” about recreational users being harassed for using old logging roads etc. That’s a ‘Miss’.
And
3. Another ‘Hit’ is graduating students can put a top school on their resume: “While there are many publications and organizations that grade colleges, often for commercial purposes, the new College Scorecard is different — it’s designed and maintained by the federal government.”
– The holy ‘federal government’ is giving them a pat on the head and they feel so good about it that it’s a ‘Hit’!
Retarded is…
4. A $64 savings on your first nuclear bomb offence is a ‘Miss’, if the fine had doubled it probably would have been a ‘Hit’…
Narrow-minded liberal morons probably don’t even see what this editorial says about the state of affairs they have created, they’re painfully dumb.
I see California doesn’t have all the deck chairs lined up just right. A bit more tinkering and bring on the ice berg.
Does this mean that everyone with a smoke detector in Chico is subject to the fine??
If some malefactor detonates a nuclear weapon in Chico, who will write the citation?
I would like to know exactly what constitutes a “violation of the city’s nuclear-free ordinance”. “Nuclear” is a broad term and is not limited to describing thermonuclear weapons.

instant glass parking lots are not that popular in Chico I see!!!!
I think the American Military has a new testing grounds for nukes. That will bring in the cash.
The World is free sliding down into a dark hole, called Insanity.
This thread, the other thread about Greece are just mind boggling. What is it with people everywhere electing complete socialist morons to the councils and governments?

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.”

Am I the only one who thinks a $1000 fine for a first offence to be a tad steep? There’s another destination I can strike off my list of ‘places to have a good time’.
Thanks north. I knew that, but I have to keep asking myself why. Those that ignore history’s lessons are doomed to repeat the mistakes and live with the consequences.
rosseuge, we struck Kalifornica off our to visit list about fifteen years ago, and in fact do not purchase anything originating there if we can help it.
