About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Love this guy! It has been wonderful to enjoy his picture, earth-to-space concerts, and his down to earth (I know) wholesomeness.
Another real canadian hero!
Congrats and thank you Commander Hadfield!!
Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Commander Hadfield.
A class act! Godspeed with your safe return Commander!
That is one seriously cool dude. Awesome.
It is totally amazing what all the great Islamic mathematicians , engineers , astronomers , and numerous other vocations and trades have been able to do here. All from the bowels of a cave with no help at all from educated women. Islam the religion of peace, exploration and development. Ala Peanut Butter Samwiches.
I'm gonna go against the grain here and just say it...Gah.
This is a man every young Canadian should aspire to emulate. He's given us all a view of our home that we will never otherwise get to see. We can't possibly thank him enough. I would hope he would be held up as a "typical Canadian". Unassuming, humble with a great sense of humour and wonder.
What, a white male inspiring the next generation! White. Male. The horror!! Surely there must be a black, transgendered feminist cripple somewhere who we can find to replace him. No more of this sending white males into space please, there is a real risk they might inspire some young white boys to succeed in life, and that is simply not permitted.
As Ezra has noted: white, male, to the back of the line baby.
You're watching a reasonable well-made music video made from space. FROM SPACE. Created by a modern day real life hero. And your mind goes straight to some completely random and unrelated issues of racism? What that hell is wrong with you?
The best music video of the year.
Shouting into the wind here but seriously, some of you regulars need to push away from the keyboard once in awhile. If you've learned anything from the benefit of Kate and her blog it's that you don't always have to be "on". Sometimes a nice moment is just a nice moment.
This is going to be a tough act for the next guy to follow.
Yes, I am jealous.
Have a safe trip home. Will be watching you in the Stampede parade.
This vid of Commander Hadfield and the vid showing Russian acts of kindness made a great day even better.
Canada's very own renaissance man.
He's got more courage than me, trusting all that Russian stuff to keep working. I used to have a Russian tractor...
Just hope he doesn't go and spoil it all by endorsing Pierre's Pup.
Congratulations to Commander Hadfield on a very successful mission. A proud Canadian.

CHRIS HADFIELD SINGS SPACE ODDITY IN SPACE!

Personally I am getting sick and tired of this guy and the Canadian media frenzy surrounding his every move. What's next, a video of him having a bowel movement in zero gravity? The ISS has been up how many years and with how many astronauts before him?
Why are so many people hung up on him and this now-routine exploit?
I too have enjoyed tracking Commander Hadfield's time at the space station. Saw some clips of experiments he performed that gives the ordinary Joe and Mary six-pack new understanding of what life is really like "out there." A proud Canadian moment!
BTW - Arthur Ellis - you are the quintissential Monday morning "shit-in-our-cornflakes" kind of guy. Why don't you go back to bed and try getting up on the other side. Sheeeesh!
An awe inspiring view of earth. It looks pretty small and fragile. It does take the 'right stuff' for those folks up there. Humans need something positive to look at now and again. To many people view their own needs and interests as the sole rationale for existence.
I will be more than PO'd if Hatfield endorses Turdeau Jr. or even worse runs for the Liebels.
Sorry Bob, I just call them as I see them. Freedom of expression and all that.....2azhz9
Thank you Commander Hadfield. I enjoyed that clip and sent it to my older grandchildren.
Hopefully he stays out of politics.
Commander Hadfield making all Canadians proud. Thankyou!
Wake me when they do something new, like sending a grain sack clad oppressed "virgin" up there.
"Why are so many people hung up on him and this now-routine exploit?"
Because it keeps their pea brains off the fact we are being sucked in and used by gubermint.Bob is a perfect example.
Then go back to sleep, justthinkin; we won't miss you.
I agree wholeheartedly.
The commander is a good and brave man, and I stand second to no other American in my respect and love for Canada as God's second-favorite -- or favourite -- nation, but "guitar" is a French word that translates as "kindling."
You know, you can call me grumpy, cynical, sour, all of the above, but the one thing Commander Hadfield is not, is a hero.
He may be exceptional, he may be one hell of a role model, he may be just effin' wonderful in every sense - but a 'hero' he is not.
And you know what?
He'd agree.
So let's only apply the Hero appellation where it belongs:

Ha, Ha! Gotcha!
Lot of people on here (judging by their comments) need to be prepped for a colonoscopy.
As someone said, push your chair back from the computer and take a crap.
Actually, Ghost, you have no freedom of expression here. Your comments are allowed by the grace of whatever moderator happens to be on.
I'm not criticizing what you said, just clarifying your misconception.
Acknowledged. I was referring to freedom of expression in the empirical sense.
I stand humble and chastened.
That was great!
I've watched the space program for many years now and of all the Canucks that have gone into space,Chris Hatfield is by far the most down to earth Canadian astronaut by far. His videos to the next generation explaining stuff into space makes learning fun. This video and the one with the Naked Ladies are great enjoyment.
This isn't to put Roberta Bondar down any, her photography is fantastic and she is indeed a role model for young girls, but Hatfield has that rare personable touch that makes you feel like he is your buddy and not someone lecturing you.
Just my opinion, of course
Sorry, typo there. It should be Chris Hadfield not Hatfield. blame that McCoy fellow in editing.
