A red line fades to yellow;
"The idea was to put a chill into the Assad regime without actually trapping the president into any predetermined action," said one senior official, who, like others, discussed the internal debate on the condition of anonymity. But "what the president said in August was unscripted," another official said. Mr. Obama was thinking of a chemical attack that would cause mass fatalities, not relatively small-scale episodes like those now being investigated, except the "nuance got completely dropped."
Not "nuance". Expiration date.

All hat and no cattle, as they say where the ranches are a day's drive to cross.
The is nothing that comes out of this guy's mouth that can be taken seriously. There never has been. And, at last, the public, and, begrudgingly, the press, are beginning to realize it.
The Dems have had their moment, and their hubris has pushed them far over the line. In the end, we'll be grateful to the likes of Barrak and Hillary for showing us so brazenly how they intended to ruin the best social contract in human history, before they could manage to do it.
That "red line" was only referring to if Shrillary got gassed over there while on assignment.
Then Vallerie told him Shrill is always gassed when she's overseas.
That's when the policy became somewhat vague.
Proper thing should happening here, but I have my doubts it will.
Obama dashing around on TV doing victory laps of being the one who tagged OBL for all that time.
Carney: "That was a long time ago."
Hillary: "What difference does it make now?"
the RED line on wheels, powered by a jet engine
one wonders were in the White House they hide all those bulls????
Sorry, how is this news again?
After all, Big Barry Booster Bubba Bill signed the Iraq Liberation Act, 1998, which called for, er, "regime change" -- and then promptly made a career out of castigating George W. Bush for his decision to, you know, implement the legislation. Ought we to have expected something different?
And "nuance got completely dropped"? Tell me again what the definition of is is?
I bet he takes his advisors along golfing.
"He usually bogies that hole but he parred it this time so write it down as a birdie."
"Nice hit Mr. President, that one flew like an EAGLE"
Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?
What can he do?
That is the question.
Not calculus....
It's a never ending process of elimination.
But I am bound by my own rules to admit there is something he can do. He can lie. In fact, he's quite good at it.
Oh, movement of chemical weapons will cause him to change his Calvins.... that's where he went off script.
Can't read .....
I think the Dems are hoping that Assad expends all his chemical weapons before anyone from the west gets a good look at them. It would be rather embarrassing if someone were to actually seize the Syrian chemical weapons and find "Property of Saddam Hussein" labels on them.
Obama is just an empty suit. Some of the lamestreammedia is catching on slowly, but most are still delusional sycophants.
Welcome to Barry and Hillarys alternate universe,
it's a gas, gas,gas.
I don't think so, Al. What's happening is that the Israelis are having to deal with the problem the hard way, by direct air strikes. As usual, Israel has to do the dirty work if for no other reason than they share a common border with Syria and its insanity.
That's what's going to bail Obama out from his assorted failures, lies, and abandoned policy statements. In the end, under this administration, the US is run by a legion of liars with no principles and no backbone whatsoever. Israel can rely on no one and nothing except itself.
As usual, the MSM got it wrong. Some pinhead TV reporter this morning claimig that any Syrian counterattack would be followed by "strong condemnation" from the rest of the world. I'm sure that feebly worded regrets would be a great consolation to thousands of dead Israelis if Hezbollah and Hamas actually got their hands on this stuff.
Which is why Israel can't wait for TOTUS to decide what to do or for his officials to try to explain it all away. The US Coward-In-Office should indeed be running scared. Israel's credibility and willingness to deal forcefully with Iran's nuclear weapons program has just gone up.
It was stupid to put a red line there anyways, better a vague threat that leaves the door open to do what the US pleases and no one will know when or where.
Yellow line? Is that the stripe down His Foulness's back?
His Foulness does stupidity very well. Even better than inertia. And then his little b**suckers in the media run around proclaiming his brilliance. Sweet.
Why would any POTUS want to intervene in Syria? Which group of Islamists are worthy of US support? Has there not been any lesson learned in Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya? Israel has nasty neighbours on all sides save possibly Jordan and what's not to like (stern condemnation, wink, wink, nod) about Saudi proxies and Iranian proxies killing each other. Obama should be encouraged to continue spewing dishonest blather as long as he doesn't act on anything.
I agree, John. The US should wash its hands of Syria. Completely, instead of the subterranean way they're intervening now with "humanitarian" aid. It should indeed publicly walk away from any support for any side, and merely state that Israel has its full support for anything Israel may find necessary to do in its self defense.
Now that's a clear, unambiguous policy. But as John Lewis points out, His Foulness only does stupidity well.
Obama IS doing exactly what he has been chosen to do. Where's the surprise in this?
Bomb both sides. Or arm both sides well enough to keep this grinder going.
