I recently got off a plane where a gentleman was enticing my wife and I to sample his tequila while a sombrero wearing trio strummed their guitars beside a little stand that was selling what appeared to be tacos.

My plane ticket destination said Mexico. The aforesaid individuals didn't seem to be offended.

An excuse to eat tacos and drink tequila is the only reason most people tolerate Cinco de Mayo celebrations (not to mention Mariachi music). If it ever becomes racist to drink beer, eat corned beef, and wear green on St. Patty's day that one will go too.

So the day actually celebrates the mexican defeat of the French?
In Canada I can't think of one group that would demand a re write of that historical fact and further claim it was justification to provide cultural promotion (imposed bi-lingualism, guaranteed rep # in HoC,etc.) copiously funded by the rest of the country.

The German side of me loves beer and bratwurst and I didn't even realize I was being racist. Before I got old, the Irish side of me sometimes would drink whiskey to the point that I appeared to be pure Irish. Perhaps these idiots might want to lighten up and enjoy a bit of life.

There was a case a few years back in San Francisco, where a Chinese family was charged with racism for running a laundry service. The government said it "perpetuated racial stereotypes."

They were soon forced out of business, whereupon they opened a rickshaw service for tourists.

The entire family was eventually imprisoned for racial hate crimes, except for the youngest daughter who works in a tea house in Sausalito.

Staple products that are still consumed to this day are too "racist" to be enjoyed at a Mexican celebration (I didn't realise Mexican was a race). Right.

He probably defines the difference between these "whirled" citizens and a genuine Mexican. At the very least he knows that it is a good thing when your culture or ethnicity is celebrated by other folks even if they are a little misguided.

One of the problems with being "progressive" is that you have to be constantly moving the goal posts. When every one has reached phase I of progressivity, one then has to proclaim a new standard (e.g. white people wearing dreadlocks = racism) for phase II ad infinitum ad nauseum. Indeed the standard of progressivity can be internally contradictory and self annihilating so that at one time everyone might be required to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with tacos, tequila and sombreros in order to be "progressive" and at another time doing exactly that might become "racist". Orwell used to be a teacher. Around modern "progressives" he'd be a student.

Have been in Florida enjoying the sun, beach, shots of tequila and probably did so on 5-May. I happen to like tequila and take advantage of US prices which are about 1/3 or Canadian prices.

I've decided that I don't care who I offend any more and, if someone tells me that my behavior is offensive, my standard response to them is that their mere existence offends me. It seems to immediately shut up a lot of people.

So, it's off to the beach now but unfortunately there isn't a good Mexican restaurant where I'm staying as I do like Mexican food.

Yeah well... this is the last straw....

But isn't celebrating Cinco de Mayo "offensive" to Franco students? I'm so confused. Diversity politics is so vacuous and incredulous it only makes sense to the irrational convoluted asshats they churn out of cultural Marxist certificate courses these days.

Let me see, I live within a reasonable distance of Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Mexican, Greek, Italian and Indian restaurants - do I have to mark my calendar with each nation's national holidays so I don't offend anyone with my take-out on the wrong day? Oops, no Burger King or McDonalds on the 4th of July either - or Tim Horton's on 1 July...

I haven't figure out why a victory by country A over country B is even noticed in country C so until that's cleared up, the matter of racist food will just have to wait.

Width of nose/lips?
Slant of eyelids?
Length of schlong?
Amount of spice/heat in breakfast?
