Your Moral And Intellectual Superiors

For the millions of Canadians who don’t recognize the name, Doug Saunders is the “International-Affairs Columnist, The Globe and Mail” and resident expert on the “far right”.

  1. Nothing screams “Nazi” like promising to change legislation to allow the formation of a greater number of producer co-operatives, putting food producers on a more equal footing with supermarket buyers.

  2. Dougie strikes back(take that nasty Kate);

Somehow, it wouldn’t work without the word “Saskatchewan.”

” severe personality flaw” jumps out in the lead.

  3. Negative? Print? Beg pardon, greenmamba but when was the last time you saw someone using a film camera?

  4. Well, on the subject of “Did you guys seriously look at the photo?”, did you?
Here is your link re: the Rhode Island synagogue:

Here is a rather more authoritative link, in respect of the Nazi swastika:
    http://ca.images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?_adv_prop=image&fr=yhs-avg-0001&va=Nazi+swastika&hspart=avg&hsimp=yhs-0001
If you actually, er, had done so, and you actually, you know, knew what you were talking about, you’d have noticed that the swastika in the Rhode Island synagogue attack is backward — a fact that cannot readily be explained, from your perspective, by the flipping over of the “negative” image or something, considering that the lettering above the “swastika” appears to me to be, you know, normal (although I will admit to being a knuckle-dragging dyslexic George W. Bush supporter).
Aside from that, and aside from being an SDAer, I happen to be a bit of an armchair aficionado of some things WWII — but from, you know, the British Empire side of things:
“If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be free, and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands.
But if we fail, the whole world, including the United States, will sink into the abyss of a new dark age, made more sinister and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.
Therefore, let us brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say,
    ‘This was their finest hour’.

  5. Last year I contacted him about a column he had written concerning high rates of black men in US jails. He had quoted all kinds of stats etc. but no stats re the number of black children without a father in the home. I referred him to a relevant piece by Walter Williams and DS replied, ‘I wouldn’t worry about voices like that – – he’s on the extreme right.’
Nowadays I do not even glance at anything Saunders he writes.

  6. I posted the backwards swastika as an example that the defence of “he used the wrong hand to salute” doesn’t necessarily hold water, since these guys are not necessarily the sharpest knives in the drawer. This photo demonstrates that sometimes Nazis get confused. That was my original point, which was pretty obvious, and you would have picked up on if you’d paid attention to what you were reading instead of looking for an opportunity to show off your WWII afficionado-ness.

  7. The problem with your evidence is that you did not make your intention known in advance.

  8. “50-50 chance that the negative was inverted”
I hope this was sarcasm? The average newsroom fled chemical photography circa 2003.

  9. Just amusing myself ,but I thought, after reading Saunder’s tweet ,”it wouldn’t work without the word “Saskatchewan”.
You could take kate out of Saskatchewan and after a few Colt 45’s it would still sound the same, and be easier to spell.

  10. “Perhaps Johnny has been communing with Warren Kinsella?”
You might have a point. Maybe toilet-stall graffiti photographers travel in packs…in case they catch a pimply 15 year old in the act of scratching a swastika.

  11. Here’s what I wrote:
“And as for Kate pointing out that it’s the wrong hand… yeah, like nobody would ever mix something like that up, would they now?

You have to be a mind-bendingly stupid person not to figure out what was going on here. Why would I post a photo of a backwards swastika unless I was obviously talking about how stupid people sometimes get things backwards. Do you suppose I was just randomly posting a photo of a swastika, and I happen to pick a backwards one?
Of course, I forgot that I was talking to the SDA audience which isn’t exactly populated by the sharpest knives in the drawer.

  12. Assuming that your post-facto assertion is an accurate reflection of what you were thinking in the first place, you should have taken care to make your intention clear. If we’re all as stupid as you say we are, you ought to have started from that premise, instead of assuming that we were telepathetic and/or capable of giant leaps of logic in connecting unconnected things.
I can sort of see how you might have made that mistake, though, given that you apparently made precisely that kind of a leap yourself in assuming that the perpetrator was, in fact, a Nazi or “neo-Nazi”. As R.E.A.L. (www.realcourage.org) noted about the Temple Am David incident:
“(Note: From our experience in covering Nazi hate crime, it would appear that most committed Nazis involved in hate crimes usually know how to draw the Nazi swastika correctly, rather than “backwards,” suggesting that perhaps the vandal was someone other than a Nazi.)”

  13. BTW bice job tweating on Saunders today. See, the greatest fear is “1930’s style nationalism”, never 1930’s style anti-nationalism. And of course it was the EU project that stopped the Balkan wars, not NATO military intervention.

  14. Odd that a party opposed to the European union would be labelled “Nazi”. Weren’t the Nazis the ones that attempted to produce a European union of their own back in the 40’s?
