Y2Kyoto: State Of Anorexia Envirosa

Via Andrew Bolt;

No one seems upset that in modern Britain, old people are freezing to death as hidden taxes make fuel more expensive…
Each year, an official estimate is made of the “excess winter mortality” – that is, the number of people dying of cold-related illnesses. Last winter was relatively mild, and still 24,000 perished. The indications are that this winter, which has dragged on so long and with such brutality, will claim 30,000 lives, making it one of the biggest killers in the country…

  1. Seems all is going according to plan. Get rid of the old people to save pension and healthcare costs.

  2. Not a problem. That’s 30K less on the dole/pensions,and 30K who would have voted against the current guberment,so they see a win-win.Where’s another Churchill/Thatcher when you need them?? Oh yeah. They immigrated long ago.

  3. Round up all the Climate Fraudster’s and Hustlers aka Suzuki and all his supporters and deport them to a small island in the Arctic and force feed them raw blubber nothing allowed that came from the evil oil or other fossil fuel source. Kind of like a modern re-education camp in the style of a Soviet era Gulag. Blubber 3 times a day and absolutely nothing from the modern world. You are cold, oh dear me. Solution consume more blubber. What Climate Fraudsters and the elite really really want is a huge die back of the human population, that is the end game.

  4. Conspiracy theories aside, those dug into the position will now tell you it’s now about extremes … whether it’s extreme heat or extreme cold, that constitutes enough evidence to blame human beings.
As George Carlin said in a previous video, the planet will be here no matter how many species die off because the planet has adapted to all types of challenges over billions of years.

  5. Just think of it as a permanent vacation to Siberia…

  6. And on and on the Global Warming Crew rant! When evidence of a prior ice age is melting, it’s the end of the world as we know it rather than the start of a great period of prosperity, as it was in the last warm period. Sinister forces are at work in this and it seems to have a markedly Marxist flavour to it.

Are you kidding? This is the whole idea behind the AGW agenda: There are far too many humans on Planet Earth. If old people die because they can’t afford fuel to keep themselves warm in winter, no hay problema. They had a long life, they’re taking up space, there’s not enough food for them, and, as original rick points out, they’re costing the taxpayer a lot in pension payouts and health costs. Rather than take them out and shoot them, they can just “naturally” freeze to death.
Problem neatly solved. Just another kind of death panel.

  8. My uncle, the last of that generation and a survivor of D-Day, Operation Market Garden and the crossing of the Rhine succumbed in March in Kent. Nice thanks from the U.K. government.

  9. RFB, batb, and Patsplace, exactly. Dianne Frances told us a couple of years back in a Financial Post article that there were 6 billion too many people on earth.
Marxist flavour indeed. What are a few million here, a few million there. Lenin said, ‘To make an omelet you have to break a few eggs’.
Friedrich Hayek warned us in The Road to Serfdom that the adoption of Marxism would lead to totolitarianism, even if by slow increments over decades.
Oh, and yes, Happy Easter to all.

  10. Fortunately Hell has no upper limit on accommodations. Otherwise the 20th and 21st centuries could have resulted in queues as millions of hard-core atheist leftists scrambled to enter the Lake of Fire.

  11. 24000 died from cold related injuries last year? Wow. Only 2000+ died on 9/11! Maybe we should temporarily halt the war on terror and start a war on greentards. I’d love to see SEAL Team 6 storm Al Gore’s non-green multi-million dollar home and put two in his chest and one in his head!

  12. And when, this summer, 20 people die of heat stress, we will see yet more cries for higher taxes on energy to help reduce the carbon footprint.
Of course, if they continue to raise energy prices, the population of energy consumers will indeed diminish and the goal of reducing energy consumption will indeed be realized. Maybe there really is method to their madness.

  13. This doesn’t have to be a deliberate conspiracy to knock off old people. All that is necessary is the right incentives, taxes, and bureaucracy to increase the likelihood of this happening. And THAT is the greatest evil of socialism – the deaths you can’t count or can’t attribute to policy choices. Socialism hides its failures in plain sight and blames it on anything but socialism.

  14. And to your point, Reginald, this story is a stunning example of how minor and miniscule the do-gooder tinkering needs to be before major damage occurs.
Let’s take all the numbers in the article as read, with a few additional assumptions to get to a working model:
    – 250,000 Brits dead from cold in the last ten years (straight line 25,000 per year).
    – Over the full ten-year period, “fuel” bills L62 per month, on average, higher than equilibrium market price due to costs of “global warming” abatement measures (note: this is one-half the current average monthly impact of L123 stated in the article, since “AGW abatement measures” would have been phased in over that period — they all wouldn’t have existed in 2003).
    – The equivalent of six “average” heating months per year.
    – Sixty percent of deaths avoidable if the deceased could have paid market equilibrium price for “fuel” over the period (thereby having sufficient funds left over to purchase adequate nutrition).
    Drum roll, please!
Through the misallocation of just L305 million — three hundred and five million pounds sterling — over ten years, 150,000 people are dead today who would otherwise be alive. That’s an average of about L2,030 — two thousand and thirty pounds sterling — per deceased person TOTAL OVER TEN YEARS. About $3,150 USD at current exchange rates.
Forget about Germany’s $110 billion USD to delay global warming for 37 hours. The misallocation of about $0.5 billion USD has killed 150,000 people in the UK.
