  1. cut it out Kate, these LLBs (lefty lunch buckets) ain’t no match for you, on second thought, go get them tiger:-))))

  2. From Wiki “He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1970, and in 1973 received a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London, England. In 1974, Garneau began his career in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Navy combat systems engineer on HMCS Algonquin.”
Something weird. Garneau, with a freshly printed PhD, joined the Maritime Command as a Sub-Lieutenant, a heroic underachievement.

  3. I had to watch the PM Harper/Hadfield thing on CBC.
It was interesting, I liked the format of kids asking questions.
CBC techies couldn’t figure out double screen so that we could see Hadfield simultaneously..
Ignore the ignorant comments at the CBC site.

  4. I have not any respect for Garneau’s politics ever since I heard him say, many years ago, that private enterprise had no place in space, that only Governments should be involved in space exploration. Until now, however, I had always of him as being worthy of something bigger than merely being a stalking horse for the young Dauphins’ ambition.
You’re a good Gliberal footsoldier, Marc, it’s too bad for you that that and 5 bucks will get you a cup of coffee at St. Arbucks.

Not weird at all, just a patchy mess of a bio, that’s all.
Garneau probably attended both CMR St-Jean and RMC Kingston 1966-1970. That’s his BSc taken care of by the age of 21. He would then have been commissioned as a maritime engineeer SLt in the navy before spending another three years getting that doctorate. In 1974 at the age of 24, he would have probably been a very senior SLt on the verge of promotion to Lt(N) (two-ringer) or already one when he arrived at HMCS Algonquin. I suspect the latter.
P.S. They don’t automatically make you an admiral just because you have a Ph.D. You still have to build up professional experience in the service.)
