Reader Tips

Joseph Stalin, who died 60 years ago today, was one of the vilest mass murderers in human history, but in the same way that other communist dictators receive effusive praise from progressives (including Justin Trudeau’s “senior advisor“) Stalin has been, and continues to be, adored and venerated by many on the left, not just in Russia and the former Soviet Republics, but by prominent western darlings of the left such as Paul Robeson.
These communists and communist sympathizers, whether open or sly, never die out, even in the most prosperous and free western countries. Here, for example, is Knutna Nävar (“Clenched Fists“), a 1970s musical group from Göteborg, Sweden, praising the “great man” with their Song of Stalin.

The revolution is scorned and mocked, but cannot be stopped
It reaches all countries despite being hated by the bourgeoisie
We send this tribute to the memory of Stalin!
The steely stern warrior, our friend and Comrade!

Do you feel hate when you hear those voices?
Good. Because if you’re even vaguely aware of the events of the 20th Century and you don’t despise communists, there’s something wrong with you.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

  1. Agreed, EBD. The reason that communists and socialists want to control the curricula of the school system is so students do not learn history, or not the true history anyways.

  2. Here’s my tip. Do not give the CPC your telephone number or they will call you daily asking for more money. I emailed and asked that they stop doing that and the marketing division got huffy and started calling and simply hanging up. Jerks. Oh well, I can use the cash.

  3. I dunno how revered Stalin is in Russia – certainly all of his statues have been knocked down, unlike those of Lenin. In fact I’m not sure that Stalin ever was revered in Russia, outside of a small group – but it was deadly not to pretend to admire.
Martin Amis’s Koba the Dread is a good fairly recent study of Stalin, which makes one feel the horror as no other work.

  4. The CPC hangs up on me now, I used to contribute but since climate gate I refuse, until they investigate the Canadian Governments involvement in the CAGW fraud, I will donate to climate blogs instead.
They kept calling, but they end up, hanging up to escape me.Now I guess they can’t find volunteers with the jam to call.
Is it not an amazing coincident that earth day is Stalins Birthday?
    Total accident right.

  5. “Because if you’re even vaguely aware of the events of the 20th Century and you don’t despise communists, there’s something wrong with you.”
And we know its many names,EBD. Socialism, facism, communism, enviromentalism, liberalism, leftardism, etc ad nauseum. And let’s not forget that eco-commies named their “Earth Day” to fall on Lenin’s birthday, Apr.22nd.

  6. My tip got caught in the filter, used the s…..e……x……. word.
But I used it for good not evil.

  7. That is a good book.
I wonder if the Swedish band remembers Raoul wallenberg’s fate.
That ANYONE thinks communism worked or that its tyrants are worthy of praise is a part of the tragedy that is communism.
Air-lift them to North Korea and leave them there.

  8. Thank you EBD.
You asked the question, “Do you feel hate when you hear those voices?” Yes, and pity at the same time. They know not what they ask for.
John, Koba the Dread is good, as are “The Harvest of Sorrows” by Robert Conquest, and “The Whisperers” by Orlando Figes.Ronald Hingley also has a great biography, “Joseph Stalin: Man & Legend”.
Stalin created a hell on earth in his attempt to create a new utopian soviet man led to unlimited collective slavery.
My relatives danced at the news of his death. The First Secretary is dead, may he rot in hell.

  9. People with Che T-shirts may as well have Hitler on their chest. How about a Che-style shirt of the CIA guy who killed Che?

  10. John (10:54 pm), I’d intended to link the word “Russia” in the post to this article published today in the NYT, but I neglected to do so.
    Two excerpts:
“Sixty years after Josef Stalin’s death on March 5, 1953, Russia is still struggling whether to view him as mass murderer or a national hero….Although Russians know more about Stalin’s crimes than they did ever before, many politicians and historians want to pull him out of the shadows and celebrate him for his role in the industrialization of the young Soviet state..”
    Later,
“For the 60th anniversary of Stalin’s death, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace conducted another Stalin poll. It found that Stalin is the uncontested No.1 on the Russians’ list of great historical figures…In 1989, only 12 percent of Russians felt that way. Today it’s 50 percent.
“In 1994, 27 percent of Russians had a positive view of Stalin. In 2011 it was 45 percent…”

  11. I am no longer mystified by the persistence of fans of Marxism. Remember “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs” ? I think the explanation is in the first half of that slogan. With so much evidence in the real world that free enterprise and free markets create material wealth in such abundance as to vastly better provide for the material needs of most people, freedom cannot compete in providing for one need that Marxists have. It is their need to be recognised and employed for having a particular ability to determine what everyone else’s needs and abilities are.

  12. The Winnipeg Free Pravda er Press is mourning the passing of local “activist” Nick Ternette.
    http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/Winnipeg-activist-Nick-Ternette–194986071.html
This activist “representing left-wing and socialist causes” was actually a self-avowed Marxist, who spent most of his adult life railing against the capitalist system he lived in.
The article mentions he and his wife have been living in a residence at the University of Winnipeg, courtesy of the President of the University Lloyd Axworthy, yep, good old federal Liberal MP and cabinet minister Lloyd. Nick was basically given the residence as a charity case, as he was the proverbial grasshopper, being more involved with his activist roll, than being a worker to support his wife and himself…
No crocodile tears for Ternette from me.

  13. On a subject as strong as this it’s hard to play with readers tips. There are kids graduating that have no idea who Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Hirohito ,Mussolini and probably even some that never heard of Hitler, just to mention a few. History has been replaced by social sciences and sex education. Much like Ken(Kulag), I feel pity at their ignorance because it will all come back with a fresh face and “forward” ideals to bite them in the ass. We are already on that road to socialism and all the old and ugly pieces of history are emerging and taking hold with little resistance. As Ken said, “They know not what they ask for”

  14. LAS
Sorta funny about them Che t-shirts….when I encounter one, I extend my hand and the fool thinks I’m intent on shaking his hand…smiling helps….I hang on and kick….
The COLD WAR may be over but I consider Che t-shirts to be a resurgence….I’m up for it.

  15. Meanwhile, the people of Hungary has made clear that it has not forgotten the crimes of the communists. Last Monday (February 25) was Hungary’s official Memorial Day for the Victims of Communism. This year, prime minister Viktor Orban observed the occasion by unveiling a monument to the victims of communism in a Budapest cemetery. The Budapest Times reports:
    http://www.budapesttimes.hu/2013/03/03/pm%E2%80%88criticises-constitutional%E2%80%88court-decision/
Not coincidentally, Hungary’s new constitution, written in 2010 to finally replace the communist-era constitution, is unique in holding the Hungarian communist party and its successor organizations legally responsible for their crimes.

  16. I can’t think of a reason to hate homosexuals, but there are plenty of reasons to hate communists.
    Dick Slater @ 1:25 a.m.:
Maybe that’s the real reason why all the Eurolefties hate Hungary, and the Jobbik thing is just a diversion.

  17. In the perverted reality we live in, likely one would have no problem ordering the music of the deluded Swedish band referred to, but try to order CD’s from any RAC (rock against communism) band and it might get held up in Canada customs as “hate literature”.
My favorite RAC band is Konkwista 88 and, fortunately, when I order their CD’s from Sweden, they come in a plain brown wrapper marked as “gift”. Musically they’re quite a bit above many of the racialist/RAC bands that I’d classify as thrash metal. Saga is another politically incorrect performer from Sweden who’s musical compositions deal with the impact of immigration on Sweden and other politically incorrect topics. It’s no coincidence that Konkwista 88 is from Poland and got it’s start in the Solidarity uprising against Communism. Just because they happen to have a soft spot for the Waffen SS, they are considered hate-mongers.
Will now have a few drinks to celebrate the anniversary of the exit of the Stalin monster from this reality while listening to some K88.

  19. Hey EBD , thanks for the piece regarding communism, because here in Canada communism is alive and well, albeit now relegated to our “First Nations Reserves”
Most Canadians do not grasp the fact that Women living on “First Nations Reserves ” in Canada do not have “Property Rights”
But take heart folks …. The Tim Hortons regular crowd in Woodstock Ontario, located hard by the junction of HWY 401, Norwih Avenue and Juliana Drive are formulating plan to change all that.
The plan for the time being is dubbed ….. “Free Winnie!”
But for the plan to succeed, Clarence Louie the Chief of the Osoyoos First Nations Band ( Canada’s most successful Band) in BC will be invited to give his assent, as well as Kate McMillan, blog Editor of Canada’s most successful conservative blog to be privvy to the plan as the plan gains national attention.
“Free Winnie” from the Tim Hortons regular crowd in Woodstock, Ontario, as it sweeps across this land!
“Free Winnie” …..(means) “Property Riights” for the women on First Nations reserves ……. !!!!!!
    I AM
    Joe Molnar
    Post Script:
Free Winnie … means Property Rights fro First Ntions Women and Tim Hortons regulars have the Answer!!

  20. Well there is some good news…Torstar is laying off 55 employees! See Delacourt tweets..story up at the Star in biz section.

  21. // Stalin has been, and continues to be, adored and venerated by many on the left, not just in Russia and the former Soviet Republics, but by prominent western darlings of the left such as Paul Robeson. //
Paul Robeson? Not venerating anybody. He’s Gone Home [since I don’t suppose you will be featuring him any time soon]

  22. Well Joe, next time I’m in town to visit my aunt at Caressant Care nearby, I’ll stop in to Hortons and take a looksee.

  23. Communism is largely a utopian social mythology supported by massive doses of propaganda and revisionist history – is there any question communist leaders would be idolized and all their sins washed away in myth spinning?
Stalin’s true legacy lies in many unmarked graves in the Ukraine. Conversely his popular legacy lies in the historic romance of progressive western pedagogues

  24. sorry but can’t help you
that said, ron paul is a certified loon, and not worthy of your support

  25. Nonsense that it is being done deliberately. Call centres are on automatic dial and I get them from other companies. Best thing is to report the telephone number and it will be taken care of.
With all the truly dreadful things to upset us each day (for an Ontarion, the prospect of another Liberal govt. being elected, plus Jr. Trudeau being elected, you obviously need to find something else to complain about.

  26. What a coincidence that Chavez is on his deathbed and is likely to be declared dead later today.

He was executed by a Bolivian Army soldier.

  30. And near the White Sea, Orenburg, particularly in the Perm region and hundreds of other former gulag camps from the Baltic region to Vladivostok.
Some lefties say that Stalin was an aberration and if Lenin had not died early, or Stalin’s Bolo rivals had gotten the First Secretariat rather than Stalin, the experiment would have turned out better. Well, Lenin began filling up the concentration camps in late 1917, and also the first mass grave in late October 1917 on the Peter and Paul Fortress island (approximately 70 bodies found on the site in 2010 while we were there). He also created the Cheka in early 1918 with Felix Dzerzhinsky in charge, and said many times enemies of the people had to be exterminated. Bukharin, Trotsky, Kamenev, ET AL would have been just as vicious.
The lefty apologists either ignore or try to obfuscate the fact that it is the Marxist system that does this and the particular leader at any time is just the instrument. The shootings and mass graves have been the product of the system where it was implemented.
Friedrich Hayek said in the 1940s in hi book The Road to Serfdom that the west was moving that way, only slower.
    Thanks Grey Lady. 😉
EBD, I think the comments to your Reader Tips for last evening might be a little one topic heavy.

  31. AGW Bites Limeys In The Gas.
London’s AGW is Falling Down, Falling Down, …

“U.K. stores of natural gas, pushed to record lows by a dearth of tanker imports, will be exhausted in about two weeks unless temperatures rise, reducing demand for the heating fuel.
The CHART OF THE DAY shows inventories at Rough, the U.K.’s largest gas-storage facility, are at the lowest level on record for the time of year. There were 6,490 gigawatt-hours of gas in storage yesterday, which will be depleted in 15 days if the average rate of withdrawal over the past two weeks continues, according to National Grid Plc (NG/) data.”

  32. Surprise, Suprise! Nelson Mandela Was a High Ranking Communist!!!
Still, for 50 years, while admitting that he was influenced by Marx and other communist luminaries, Mandela has denied — in public, at least — that he was an actual member of the Communist Party. But now, documents discovered at the University of Cape Town by Stephen Ellis, a professor based at the Free University of Amsterdam, completely contradict Mandela’s bogus claims.
Among other evidence, Ellis found minutes from a secret SACP meeting of top leaders in 1982. The papers document a high-level Communist Party functionary’s discussion about Mandela having joined the SACP around 20 years earlier. That would mean he joined in the beginning of the 1960s, probably 1961 or 1962, well before he was prosecuted for, among numerous other crimes, membership in the outlaw party backed by some of the most ruthless tyrants on the face of the Earth.

  33. Dizzy – That was when he wasn’t screwing Lord Mountbatten’s wife, who was, for all intents and purposes, a communist, too. Robeson had other talents other than his deep baritone voice.

  34. Well that’s an new sink hole theory-last I heard; it was frakking that caused them-probably testing to see which pile of thrown dung sticks.
