What We Really Need Is Democracy

With a Jew-hating theocracy to vote for;

There are a lot of illusions out there about how the exercise of power will moderate the Muslim Brotherhood and similar groups. To some degree, Morsi's record in office shows a pragmatic willingness to maintain a treaty he deeply loathes with the "sons of apes and pigs." But we would do better to think of this as caution rather than moderation. If a real opportunity presented itself to destroy the Jewish state, there can be little doubt that Morsi and the members of his movement would think it their duty to act.

I'd suggest that you consider the rhetoric as political talk - and kindly compare it with the rhetoric we see in all political people, whether in the Canadian Liberals or NDP ranks, or in that of the Obama gang.

What they say is for one agenda; the real focus must be on what they do.

Morsi needs the MB on his side; they've been too long working in the grassroots level of society, since they were barred from the official level. Therefore, at the grassroots, and in the rural areas, they are powerful.

Morsi also needs Iran on his side rather than their using any open Egyptian alliance with Israel as a reason for Iranian open hostility to Egypt.

Again, what he thinks and what he says are one thing; his actions are what must be watched. And above all, in my view, the real threat to Israel is Iran. Oh, and Obama.

Can someone point out one example in history where the exercise of power ever moderated the totalitarian impulse? Yet that is what so many in the chattering class are pinning their hopes on.

Has anyone actually stopped and considered how truly awesome the hybrid offspring of an ape and a pig could be? Why is this considered an insult?

How must it feel to know that "sons of monkeys and pigs" can kick your ass around the block all the live long day.

No more Western soldiers, just bombs.

Israel is in little danger from Muslim people who are fighting among themselves. Egypt will spend a few years driving out the Christians and intellectuals (western thinkers) then a few more fighting over which is the right kind of Muslim and then realize that they need an economy.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the original protestors when Morsi feels comfortable.

Morsi is safe for atleast 4 years, then we will see if the american Joos help elect another jew hating lefty to power, or will they stay home, or maybe even wake up and help elect a freind of Isreal rite winger??

Surely Morsi has made similar remarks more recently than 2010?

As far as I can see, ousting Hosni Mubarak was a grave mistake.

So far, Morsi has assisted in maintaining the integrity of the
Israel-Egypt border. But as was said, given the opportunity
he'd no doubt be quite happy if Israel were liquidated to the
last woman and child.

John, unlikely. Morsi would probably be shot by his own military if he tried any such thing. The Egpytian military would be seriously unwilling to go through the disasters of Yom Kippur 1973 all over again. And the Israelis would have lots of advance notice that it was coming. Like in 1967, Egpyt would have to move their military into Sinai in strength. And there's only one reason they would do that.

I am not sure about the relationship of your comment to mine. My own is quite passive - if something happened to Israel, Morsi would no doubt be happy, for religious reasons.
Depending on what happened his life might become much more difficult. Hypothetical. I have no reason to disagree with your comment - it seems probable, and I do hope it is true.

John, quite right. I was just addressing the possibility that Morsi demands the Egyptian army make it happen.

It matters not if the vox populi echo Morsi's statements. It matters that the cash-strapped Americans pay him courtesy of Obama.

Enjoy your poverty, America.
