And that's why we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

You can quote me on that.

What's with all these folks named "Spence" in the news of late ... and not in a good way?!

Well, we can reasonably sure they're not related, although they might be related in an ethical sense.

Fight on the beaches and in the streets?!

Principal's office for you!!

Not to worry though, he will attend some sensitivity training in how to behave honestly from now on. Just don't hurt his self-esteem!

When somone is this fundamentally dishonest, there's a very good chance that his resumes and supporting documentation have been 'doctored' as well.

Guess we can leave that to our dilgent, curious press corps to ferret out, right?

we shall not fight anywhere. we will give up and allow governemnt unions to run all over us.

Doncha just love "cut and paste". Modern day computers can make almost anyone look like a genius.

I don't know what those comments on the NP site refer to in connection with Ralph Klein plagiarising, perhaps because I lived out of Canada for much of his prominence in public life here, but they are wrong to say that since he was let off, it makes a new normal and all others must be let off.

Since Ralph Klein or anyone else was let off, no one else should be let off subsequently. It should be acknowledged that it was a mistake to let people off and we won't make it again. The school board should require his resignation. Then they should investigate his credentials properly and, finding anything not true, admit they didn't do their job properly in vetting him and themselves resign.

They won't do any of that.

Good God, he could have at least rearranged some of the subclauses a bit or something.

This is an awesome paragraph:

'"I think Chris has been quite candid about the mistake and is very concerned that everyone understand that he sees this as an honest mistake, but something that needs to be corrected,” TDSB chair Chris Bolton told the Star. “As in all learning situations, we see this as a learning experience and we support him totally in his bid to make it right.”'

By the way, did anyone take note of the exact time and date that the National Post found itself slightly to the left of the Globe?

Whaddya mean? The media have been diligent in "exposing" Peter Penashue!

Oh yes, he's a Conservative. That is unforgivable.

The modern Brit couldn't do anything about an invasion, because only the criminals now have weapons. On the other hand, all that HM Government would have to do to deter a would-be invader is to show them the welfare rolls.
That is why Germany is absolutely NOT going to take over Greece.

Spence IS a "person of color",so any criticism of him MUST be racist. Ho Hum.

At the NP comments, one commenter makes the claim that Ralph Klein also was guilty of plagiarism, and wasn't prosecuted,so Spence should not be penalized either.

That alleged logic is more despairing than the article.

Please share your thoughts with the board chair:

Listen to this from Chris Selley's article:

I think Chris [Spence] has been quite candid about the mistake and is very concerned that everyone understand that he sees this as an honest mistake, but something that needs to be corrected,” TDSB chair Chris Bolton told the Star. “As in all learning situations, we see this as a learning experience and we support him totally in his bid to make it right.”

This statement is UN-BEE-LEE-VA-BULL.

'Pure BULL. "... he sees this as an honest mistake ..." He sees this as an honest mistake, does he? Well, I and thousands of others don't: There's absolutely nothing "honest" about plagiarizing, especially when you're the flipping Director of Education.

As for "we [at the TDSB] see this as a learning experience ..."

WHAT THE ...??????????

We're not talking grade one here. We're talking THE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AT THE LARGEST SCHOOL BOARD IN CANADA.

This response from the TDSB is an outrage.

CHRIS SPENCE NEEDS TO RESIGN -- OR TO BE FIRED.

Unbelievable. But I'm not sure what is worse, his plagiarism, or comments like this on the Star web page:

"This is way too much emphasis on competitive sports in our society. These foster elitism and divide kids into winners and losers. Look at professional atheletes, who are selfish, self-absorbed, spoiled brats. We should place much more emphasis on traditional drama and music groups (NOT popular music). In those, anyone can contribute and eveyone is a winner when all work toward a common goal. That is true team building."

Heaven help mankind.

More stories of educrats pimping the path way of the shining red star.

As a thought, SDA could run an occasional contest for blog-theme heading (conforming to Churchill's formulations).

As a nascent theme for 2013 (just look at the SDA posts to date, or even today), I'd suggest:

"Never in the field of moral preening was so much contempt owed by so many to so futile."

On the other hand, I can definitely recommend "The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill, Defender of the Realm, 1940-1965", by William Manchester and Paul Reid (both Americans; part three of Manchester's great biography), which at page 193 of 1,053 pages is turning out (so far) to be among the best reads evah! (At least as far as I'm concerned, anyway).
