The seething hatred of the Left toward independent people is SO intense, that ANY lies, ANY false flags, ANY staged "massacres" are justifiable tactics.

Does Piers know how easy it is to buy drugs that are smuggled into a country? Does he know how many people there are living illegally inside the USA? If law enforcement can't stop the flow of illegal people and drugs, why does he think they could stop guns from entering the country? What a pompous fool!

The stats apparently don't show that homocides are much related to gun density, but am I correct in understanding that violent crime rates are? The video avoids making the latter point.

Although I had a vague idea of the respective crime rates in Britain and the U.S., didn't know the exact figures. I shall definitely bookmark that fact check site.

And why are there so many gangs in America?

There's also a difference in the way the USA and the UK compile their respective crime statistics that make direct comparisons misleading. In the UK criminal statistics are linked to criminal convictions, whereas the USA tabulates crimes regardless of conviction. So if you have a person killed as the result of foul play, but the suspect(s) get off due to lack of evidence, that homicide is tabulated differently in the two countries. In the USA it still counts as a murder. In the UK it does not.

Another thing that is seldom mentioned is that the UK not only has a higher rate of violent crime, it has a much higher incidence of so-called "hot" burglaries. These are burglaries of occupied homes, where the occupants are subject to additional crimes as a result of their presence. This is because criminals in the UK have little to fear from ordinary citizens. Even if a citizen defends themselves with a makeshift weapon, it's that citizen who is then dragged through the "justice" system like they're the criminal. In the USA, "hot" burglaries are quite rare. Most burglars deliberately avoid the risk of an occupied dwelling because they know there is a very real possibility of encountering an armed and angry occupant.

Peace be upon Knight99 and Kathy Shaidle, the important distinction about murders and violent crimes generally in the USA is that they cluster by LOCATION.

Example, here's a crime map of Chicago. It shows all the recent shootings.

You will notice that the dots are all tightly clustered. Meaning that there are some locations where all the shootings take place, and they don't happen anywhere else.

Now you can attempt to make something out of the correlation between who lives in a location and what goes on there, but the interesting thing is that these lines are very finely drawn. One block is a shooting gallery, the NEXT BLOCK has zero shootings.

That fact indicates to me that there's an unspoken understanding about some places being where you go to act up. Not acceptable on that street over there, only on -this- street.

That's what makes Piers Morgan such an utter liar. Not only can you not generalized between the USA and Britain, you can't even compare one location in Chicago with another location a couple miles away. They aren't the same. Furthermore once you subtract the really serious hot spots from both countries, Britain has a considerably higher base crime rate than the USA. The Brit countryside is nowhere near as safe as the American countryside is.

Finally, if you look at a map which plots gun ownership against murder, you find the hilarious truth laid bare. All the murders happen where the least amount of guns are.

Kathy Shaidle is right too, most of the mooks getting shot are career criminals. That's why its insanity to try to link mass shooting atrocities like Sandy Hook or Aurora to the general crime rate. The two things are completely different.

Taken all together, the modern anti-gun propaganda campaign is one of the most heinous lies in all of history. Its a lie in every particular.

Different and yet there is a common denominator in all of this violence coming from different sectors of American society. It’s not a gun because guns are inanimate objects which cannot willingly kill someone. It’s because of manipulation, namely Liberal manipulation of the minds and livelihoods of people across demographics causing or creating atmospheres of violence.

That said, I think Piers deliberately chose to have Jones on to out his conspiracy theories about to help make the liberal case for the banning of firearms, and Jones got sucked in to make some pretty stupid comments that did not help the case for freedom of firearm ownership. Piers misinformation would hardly have been noticed by most people.

I have lots of family and friends in both the US and the UK. If you do, try this little exercise. Ask them if they have been ever been the victim of a violent crime. If your results match mine, you will find that in the land of capering foxes, the incidence is way higher. As Piers is fond of pointing out, the UK has a much lower gun related homicide rate than the US. But what he does not point out is that the UK's violent crime rate is much higher.

As Mark Steyn often points out the chance of a plaid shirted New Hampshire resident being the victim of a violent crime is very low. Why? Because they have a very high rate of gun ownership.

Bad people are like wolves. They know the surest way to their goals is to pick off the weakest. As the prim Piers well knows those are the law abiding citizens of his abandoned country are afraid to go about their lives as they know they have no way to defend themselves. If they do, they get arrested.

Please prim Piers move back. Get a loft in Tottenham and haul your unarmed ass back and forth to work without an armed escort and see how long you last.

You bet. Banning guns is very effective if you run a dictatorship. It ensures you can continue to do so. The point of the Second Amendment was to prevent precisely this situation. BTW using Chavez policies as a point on how to solve problems in a democracy is a little strange. It smacks of Freidman's tongue baths of the Chinese leaders and their economic prowess.

when lefties start throwing numbers around, I always ask for CONTEXT, because as we see numbers don't actually mean all that much unless you "define" them, but lefties like big numbers so they just keep repeating them until you "define" them for the idiots, and then run and hide, or start name calling:-)))

Knight99, thanks for bringing up the fact that most people killed in the US are black. If one compares homicide statistics in the US among whites, they are lower in the US than they are in Canada. Northern US states adjacent to the Canadian border have significantly lower homicide rates than Canadian provinces closest to them (Brandon Centerwall some years back published a paper on this). The last time I looked, the US black homicide rate was of the order of 15/100000. In fact, one of the strongest correlations I've found in homicide data is to plot homicide rate vs percentage of state population that was black for US states. This was significant even if one removed Washington DC which, when I did this little exercise had the highest black percentage of the population and a homicide rate of about 80/100000. Interestingly Washington DC also have the strictest regulations against ownership of firearms in direct contravention of the 2nd Amendment.

Most blacks are killed by other blacks and, as Phantom has pointed out, murders are highly spatially concentrated. Chicago has excellent homicide stats that I suspect can still be downloaded by anyone and, if one starts plotting homicides by location, there are a few very tiny hot spots for homicide. Likely these are primarily black areas.

Considering that blacks are the primary victims of firearms violence, the proposal for white celebrities to call for banning guns is a racist policy and they should be called out for it. The people most in need of guns for self defense are poor black people living in bad neighborhoods. I very much doubt if any firearms restrictions will limit the ability of black gang members to get guns. Also, the white celebrities seem to have a curious propensity to be surrounded by armed guards - maybe we should have a campaign to ensure that the only thing their bodyguards are armed with are a police whistle and a cell phone set to autodial 911. A few high profile muggings and rapes of celebrities might get some of them to change their minds about guns although I suspect they're more susceptible than the majority of the population to Stockholm syndrome. Perhaps the NRA should get Herman Cain working on this topic as a liberal being called a racist by a black man has absolutely no idea how to respond and generally falls apart.

I think whenever we see a leftard news-critter using concocted statistics to lie; we should call it a "Morgan".
