Futuristic highways in the Netherlands glow in the dark
This is all predicated on the fact their will be a technological Netherlands left is Islam takes it over. Will they even allow it. Between Fatwas & Jewish paranoia (everything to them is a jewish plot). Does anyone doubt they will ban this?
Lets face it they lost thier Nation long ago. Just different Nazis now.

Now,now Rev. The Islamist's are famous for their technological advances! Think stoning(saving precious metals),hangings of gay/lesbians(again saving metal),the great medical advance of FCM,proving a women's word is only worth 1/4 of a man's,especially in rape cases, being really eco-green(not taking baths, thus saving water),etc.I'm sure others can add tons more. As for the Dutch, wooden shoes, wooden heads, wouldn't listen.

The "interactive" roadway has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. How is a driver supposed to get their night vision working when the light right beside him is always turning on?

What tells it all is the "comments are disabled for this video." line

What isn't mentioned is how well the luminescent paint will stand up to traffic. Having glowing lines on the highway is a good idea, but they need to give off a red glow so as not to disrupt ones night vision (as mentioned by C_miner). They would be useless in most of Canada as, at my latitude, there's currently 8 hours of daylight this time of year and my snow covered garden LED lights seem quite disinclined to charge up in the cold. The presumption that images of ice crystals would appear in a road that was cool ignores that a dump of snow would wipe out both the road markings and the nice ice crystal images. Presumably a few episodes of sliding sideways down the road would be a signal to some drivers that perhaps they should slow down for the icy conditions.

My ideas on highways are a bit different than those of the Dutch and that's to put them all underground, slave the vehicle to a highway control system and let it drive itself. Then, I could pull out my laptop and take advantage of the internet access present in the tunnel. Burying highways gets rid of the the effects of weather on roads and I have many not so fond memories of going nowhere on the Coquihalla because some moron decided they were going to drive on it without snow tires in December and is blocking all traffic at the entrance to the great bear snow shed. White knuckle driving is not what I consider to be a good time and I'd be happy to dispense with it whenever possible.

The other advantage of burying highways is that one no longer has to worry about hitting deer or other animals except for the very rare animal that will make it into the highway tunnel. True, the views aren't the same as they are driving through the mountains in the summer, but my memories of winter driving are entirely of what the snow and ice in front of me looks like without a clue what surrounds me.

Glow in the dark highways,,,
Great idea for roads around Fukushima and Chernobyl.
A new makeover with some radium paint and they'd be good to go.
No wiring required.
(The paint probably has less rad output than background now,,, but I'm guessing)

And Loki;
You forgot about driving behind a semi in a snowstorm at night through Revelstoke in a Volkswagen.

me thinks these dykehoppers have been eating to much aged tulip bulb soup

I do not need patterns of snow crystals on the road to tell me there are actually snow crystals on the road.

The induction coil recharging from windmills driven by the draught of passing cars is perpetual motion.

Well the BEST part of that, C_Miner is that it will actually light the road BEHIND your car! Takes a certain amount of time for the "wind" generated by a passing vehicle to reach anything which isn't in the middle of the highway.

And Loki, they also fail to note that painted areas of a highway tend to be more slippery than unpainted areas, especially when wet. Ever had to do a panic stop at an intersection with a stop-bar when the pavement is wet? Didja notice how you temporarily stop decelerating as your wheels cross that painted line? Imagine dealing with that in random splotches as you try to do a panic stop! Regardless of whether the road is icy, or merely wet. Because the paint will STILL be there, even though you may not be able to see it...

Now Robert of Ottawa, they recognize that the net effect is less energy out than in, but since not all vehicles are electric, the ones which aren't can "pay" for those that are. And if nothing else, what they CLAIM they will capture is "wasted" energy that makes localized wind.

But at least the Right People will undoubtedly benefit from the contracts to design and build these fine "advances". And that is all that really matters any more!

And Kate, captcha ain't workin' worth a darn! Six characters, I enter them exactly as shown, and it STILL fails. Captcha for this post is "txu9nt" and it has already failed three times. New one is "xj45h5". We'll see if THIS one goes through.

Yup. Captcha worked that time!

Feel good predictive programming. The ultimate plan is to restrict personal automotive travel to the political/elite class only. The rest of us will not be able to afford personal transportation and be herded into dense metropolitan complexes where we are totally reliant on public(read government0 tramsportation. You don't NEED a car just as you don't NEED a gun or a large home, or property or anything else the fascist left deem as outward displays of western affluence.

Wow, someone must have an unlimited budget! Must be an oh so frugal member of the Eurozone.

Thousands of pinwheel generators, each with copper windings and (I assume) rare earth magnets by the side of a roadway. I think that thieves will pilfer them quicker than they can be replaced.

Dutch roads among the safest in world

Dutch drivers are among the safest in the world, an international transport watchdog has revealed.

According to the Paris-based International Transport Forum’s findings, the number of people killed in traffic accidents in the Netherlands is the lowest out of 33 countries surveyed in what they described as a “record decade for road safety”.

And it would seem that there has been a significant fall in road deaths across the world, with 30 countries registering a decline in fatalities.

The dramatic decrease could lead to cheaper car insurance quotes as Dutch drivers now rank amongst the safest in the world.

Last year, there were 3.9 road deaths in the Netherlands per 100,000 inhabitants, while Malaysia had the highest death toll with 23.8.

Steep declines were also reported in Spain, Portugal and France, while America enjoyed its lowest road death toll for 60 years, with 11.1 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.

The Foundation for Road Safety Research has no explanation for the fact that roads in the United States are less safe than most European countries. But the average use of much larger and heavier cars on American highways may play a role.

I always thought they should genetically modify deer DNA so they would glow in the dark.

The Foundation has NO INTEREST in explaining that fact, Rizwan, since the explanation would go against their propaganda. Part of the reason is the distances involved in the United States. A FAR better statistic would be "deaths per million miles", but they are not interested in going there. Another part is the demographics. That also is not something they care to talk about. However, they ARE glad to talk about "larger and heavier cars", even though THOSE are significantly safer for their occupants than the butt-pimples that pass for automobiles on the European front.

Road fatalities per vehicle-km (fatalities per 1 billion vehicle-km)
Netherlands 7.7
USA 8.5

Not anywhere NEAR as much difference there, eh, Rizwan? Even WITHOUT correcting for the demographics.
