This is truly getting insane:

Chief Teresa Sponge is a revisionist of the worst kind.

There is a lot of anger brewing, and it's not native. Please remember, there are 1.2 million aboriginals in canada (3.8%), they hold no sway for the average Canadian. A less so today.

L. Hill

I say call the bluff...PMSH should step down immediately and hand the keys to Turtle Island over to Chief/Saint Theresa. First Nation's folk will administer all affairs and anybody who isn't of the correct bloodline will now become a ward of the state...or baby turtle if you will. I didn't want to work tomorrow anyways...

The treaties have broken down according to the Chiefs, and we are now essentially at WAR.

It’s sort of sad, but I’m ok with that.

So let’s put the tears away, it’s time to face reality and settle this once and for all. We have been given no choice now but to STOP all aboriginal money’s flowing from Canada to the First Nations and prepare to refight for the land Nation to Nation.

L. Hill >

'....there are 1.2 million aboriginals in canada (3.8%), they hold no sway for the average Canadian"

Wait until the Muslim and Hindu populations individually overtake them in a few short years to see how much sway they have.

Imagine sitting in a sweathouse wearing a full burka.

"The Chippewa and Swampy Cree Tribes of Indians and all other the Indians inhabiting the district hereinafter described and defined do hereby cede, release, surrender and yield up to Her Majesty the Queen and successors forever all the lands included within the following limits"

That's the treaty they signed.

It's time to take away the cookie jar. You see this with the Haida Gwaii in BC. They insist on their sovereignty and achieved a great deal of it in the the recent agreement.

But when the main hospital starts to go to seed they immediately clamour for money. And the BC government obliges by giving them $50 million.

Why do we do this?

Next time they are banging their drums outside Parliament, ask them if they are an independent nation, and when they inevitably say yes, cut off all Canadian money. No roads, no schools, no hospitals, no SUVs and big screen TVs.

Take away the cookie jar.

We're not doing these guys any favors with the PC crap. The entire world is getting plugged into the modern economy and the natives are drifting further and further behind because they want everything for nothing.

"Wait until the Muslim and Hindu populations individually overtake them in a few short years to see how much sway they have.
"

They may have already taken over:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Canada

+

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Canadians#Indo-Canadian_demographics

= 1542305 people. The natives are beat by 300K.

The meeting happened. Absurdly being boycotted by the same people calling for it. The demands continue, and the media are being used as mouthpieces. It's time for the national media to stop covering these demonstrations and "press conferences" and cut off the attention to these issues until it's deserved.

As for the chiefs belief in dignity and respect for themselves, it's time that the PM pointed out that respect has to be earned, both from others and themselves.

I was under the impression that nations accepted responsibility for their own economy, trade relations, defence, social programs and governance.

I don't see any of the above taking place on aboriginal lands. I can call myself the walrus, cco coo ga joo - but it doesn't make me a walrus.

L. Hill >

Yup, and since Canada is a multicultural mosaic that insists on keeping individual cultural identities and practices, how much respect do Canadian aboriginals think they are going to receive from cultures that routinely abuse their own aboriginal people today?

Wait until the Muslims eventually dominate our parliament and see what "white man treaties" remain honoured.

It's all more or less what happened in South Africa.

If they are as independent and sovereign as they claim, they will all need passports and visas to leave their reserves to visit Canada.

Idle no more means:
Get a life
Get a job
Get out of our wallets

If they want to re-wage a war, then let's have at it.

Knight99, I'm afraid you are right. It is only a matter of time before this breaks out into, shall we call them incidents and blood will be shed.

I found it interesting that in the clip, the fellow that asked Spence where is the money was escorted off the federally owned island by a Mountie who commented, when the fellow asked him why he was being kicked off, that it was Algonquin land. Interesting to say the least. Will this be like some other countries that disintegrate and the police and military slit into factions and take different sides.

It was also interesting when Robson said this should have been dealt with long ago, and implied that it will be tough to do so now.

I still think the NDP is so upset with Bill C-45 that they are instigating this rebellion.

RAMP

Royal Algonquin Mounted Police.

Yes.

When this country becomes less Mackenzies and Bouchards and more Singhs and Chens, how "compassionate" will they be to the "indigenous" populations?

Spense is a crook and so is Palmater. I've had it up to my eyebrows with professional Indians who live very well off the hog clamouring about abuses real or imagined and shaking people down for cash or else.

RUMP. R Uncanadian MP.

I'm done caring about this. It's just Indians blowing off steam again. It'll evaporate like Occupy if we just let them have their fun and then go back to their squalor.

CSIS should be investigating Palmater and those of her ilk. They are seditionists and need to be treated as such.

I find it funny that they call themselves a "nation". That term came out of the philisophical thinking of the European "age of enlightenment". This was the result of thousands of years of civilization evolving. During this time the native North American was anything but a "nation".

This has indeed reached _Life of Brian_ levels of absurdity.

One secondary effect that I have noticed is that many of my acquaintances have been surreptitiously dropping their native bona fides into conversation recently, viz.: "I'm not just saying this because I have some native blood in me," or "Because I'm part-Aboriginal, we'll be incorporating a tobacco ceremony into the wedding." Sheesh.

As the man said, feeding the crocodile in the hopes that it eats you last.

That being said, I agree with jeffhodgsonjeff - this will evaporate like Occupy with the first 20-car winter pileup on the Don Valley Parkway.

I say we call their bluff. Ever little Indian reserve will become a separate nation and the only obligations Canada will have to them will be what's in the original treaty provisions. As they are nations hostile to Canada, we setup border posts, and in the case of "nations" who are likely to invade Canada, we setup Israeli style walls around the "nation". If any of these foreigners want to visit Canada, they'll first need to get a visa and have a valid passport meeting international standards. If they enter Canada illegally, they'll immediately be deported and set back to their "country". If the "nation attacks Canada, handling of the situation will be performed by the Canadian military who have had extensive training recently in Afghanistan. Also, these nations will be subject to UN "light arms" agreements with export of military hardware prohibited to them.

The Indian Act will be abolished and any money that is transferred to these "countries" will come out of the foreign aid budget. I believe foreign aid comes with a lot more oversight than the money currently going to the Indian kleptocracies and foreign aid would be denied to corrupt governments.

If there's anything in the treaties about medical care, it will be at the level of medical care at the time the treaties were signed. Any Indian who wished to utilize the Canadian medical system would be charged the same as a foreigner which, for hospitals in BC is $1500/day for a room with physicians fees on top of that. Don't have the money - tough - go back to your country and get medical care there - I'm sure there's a lot of underemployed medicine men at present. Similarly, universities in Canada could charge foreign student fees which are on the order of $25-50 K/year depending on the program. Provincial welfare rolls would shrink as the perpetually idle lying drunk in Vancouver and Victoria back alley's are deported to their "country" of origin.

Next, foreign workers will need to get a work permit and any foreigner caught working without one will be immediately deported and not allowed back. Rather than putting Indians in jail, every Indian criminal will be immediately deported to his reserve. If there are too many criminals crossing over national boundaries then up goes the 15' fence with armed guards on the other side of it. Again, not effete members of the local gestapo, but rather military personnel who will treat a foreign invasion with the seriousness it demands.

Individual treaties on visa requirements, etc, will be negotiated with all 600 "nations" but given current government cutbacks I estimate it would take a century or so before visa requirements are dropped for those nations who aren't hostile. The Indians had better get used to the long wait at the customs checkpoint if they want to buy groceries at the town a few miles away -- but at least they're an independent nation.

Finally, we insist that all 600 of the Indian "nations" be given UN membership which might be the reason for a lot of freedom loving countries to leave that useless POS organization, but it would get a lot of the Indians with delusions of grandeur out of the country giving speeches to one another and petitioning the Queen to come to New York to settle their grievances with the crown.

We could allow people to immigrate to Canada and attain Canadian citizenship after 5 years, but if they engage in any criminal activity then it's back to their "country" of origin that they'd go and they'd be forbidden to return to Canada.

Sometimes the best way of dealing with unreasonable individuals is to give them exactly what they want as likely the Indian chiefs have absolutely no idea of the ramifications of what they're proposing. This is one of the best ideas they've come up with and I would suggest that PMSH immediately start implementing it.

War is the only answer.

Ken (Kulak) >

Agreed.

The problem is Welfare and the Entitlement culture.

You can't give other people's money away to other people forever. It's "unsustainable".

It's the same thing happening with the black community in the US. The major difference is that the problem in the US is in the tens of millions and growing, whereas in Canada aboriginal populations are declining and fighting for entitlement rights with third world newcomers and the French.

We also have the advantage of exposing the chiefs to the tribes for corruption because money flows through their hands first. A much more manageable position for us in the short term than the Americans but impossible to maintain peace in the long term regardless.

Why not let these chiefs have their indigenous culture and in return we take back all our Canadian stuff, like:

spectacles,
TV,
Cadillac Escalades,
houses,
furniture,
medicine,
food,
clothes,
plumbing,
heating,
lumber,
tools,
paper,
books,
money,
bingo,
roads,
aircraft,
outboard motors,
steel,
plastic,
education,

etc, etc.

Canada has used all of these things to disrespect and exploit these chiefs. Obviously they would be way better off without any of this Canadian stuff.

The more Monty Python this gets the better it is. The chiefs can play silly buggers and then even sillier buggers as they self destruct in their self created media theatre.

As for regular band members - they might not want to send back all that Canadian stuff. In fact they might be pleased if the chiefs got out of the way and stopped embarassing other indians.

I see The Indians are trying to fart against thunder again.
They will just get burnt by the inevitable lightning strike.
People are sick & tired of the Profesional victims club.
They have come to believe in fables they have created to excuse the thievery By greedy leaders. The lack of any courage to change the system of self abuse.

DNA test for all people claiming to be Indian. 51% to qualify as a native (this is doable because of current DNA testing technologies). This would eliminate a major portion of the so-called Natives.

Then cut off the money. Who is paying for all this folks to be bussed to the protest. Indirectly, the Canadian taxpayer. Who's money paid for Teresa's Hummer? Canadian taxpayer. Who pays the bills for their lawyers when the sue the government? Canadian taxpayer.

Cut off the money!!!

So when do the terrorist rocket attacks start?
[sarc]

Really I believe they are desperately trying to deflect
on the issue of $100, 000, 000 missing, and not accounted for.
Kickbacks for enviro-nazis? Hmmm...
Straight back into the Tides Foundation?
Hhmmm
My thoughts think of the felony misappropriation of funds charges.
She is facing prison, and all of her sycophants, as well. Her $850/ day PR flack better work overtime, because we are sick of the LIES .

A suggestion for the Chief: either use FN technology to develop, refine and distribute energy products; or, lease the technology from the rest of us.

In the former case, your sunk capital costs will be recovered by revenues, which will be yours 100%.

In the latter case, you may find that the capture, refining and distribution technology leasing may substantially impact revenues.

I strongly suggest having a good meal to fuel your creativity, and get to work on further developing your FN technology. It's hard to concentrate when you're hungry.

Heh. What ELSE would one expect from the featherheads? By the way, that "earth steward" bullshit is truly special, in light of the quaint plains "native" practice of spooking buffalo herds to run over cliffs to their death. But then their Media mouthpieces aren't about to point that out to the Mere Citizens now, are they?

I also see that captcha no longer seems to be having the same problems it did a few days ago. Didja change something when you re-enabled it? Of course, having said that, this post will most likely not go through...
}:-]

One of the very discouraging things about these Chiefs is how inarticulate they are. Sorry, I can't find the clip I watched yesterday, with an overweight Chief, in full headdress, reading from a script which he kept stumbling over.

I couldn't help think that the statement had probably been written by the band's lawyer, with the Chief mouthing the words without much conviction. The FN seems to have become a front for all of the folks on the Native Gravy Train: Bring in accountability for all of the gazillion$ Native Canadians get from the federal government, and there'll be an end to all of the cushy $$$ arrangements with lawyers, political party donations, and other hangers-on.

There are too many people and organizations benefiting from FN monies. No wonder the demons are screaming: Hands off our booty!

In return, I'm a Canadian who's demanding hands off my tax dollars! NO MORE.

Not only did Natives herd buffalo off cliffs, they were nomadic because once they'd depleted the flora and fauna in one area, they were forced to move on to find greener pastures. This idea of "the Noble Savage, Steward of the Earth" is a latter-day depiction of North American Natives which is nothing more than a PR stunt.

Sad but true.

Loki, I'd suggest a couple of more items:

1. Eliminate the right to vote in Canadian, provincial and municipal elections.

2. Eliminate any right that may exist to contribute financially to Canadian political parties or politicians.

3. Require payment of Canadian taxes, consistent with the requirements imposed on other foreign nationals.

I agree with Robson, but he's missed a major problem -- the Canadian Bar, whether on the bench or not: politicians can take as tough a stand as they want, but much of the FN position has been created by the generation of revisionist do-gooders currently at the pinnacle of that profession, whose attitude is that capitalism (particularly of the crony variety) and property rights are great for me, but not for you.

In this regard, the current leaders of all the opposition parties in Parliament are pretty much archetypal examples of the problem (Stephen Harper being the only non-lawyer to serve as Prime Minister since 1980). Over the course of the last forty years or so, the legal community has done a great job of undermining Canada's position with regard to the issues involved here.

A few years ago Ian Hunter, a former Western University law professor (ironically) and Anglican, pointed out that the Anglican Church of Canada had "apologized its way into a legally untenable position" on residential schools. The same can be said of the Canadian legal community -- we're litigating our way to a legally untenable position on Canadian sovereignty, property rights and related issues. Trudeau once criticized Brian Mulroney for foisting the "death by a thousand cuts" on Canada -- Mulroney, on a completely unrelated issue, accused Trudeau of "the pot calling the kettle black".

Whether we can escape this blind alley is the challenge for Mr. Harper -- we need to resolve this in a manner that does not rely on the legal system and more court rulings. If we don't, we're definitely going to end up with something that we are very unhappy with (we could even be past that point now).

Appears the various bands and chiefs are in much disagreement amongst themselves exactly what candy they want from the store called Canada.

Doubt they'll revert back to what their ancestors did, fight and wipe out entire tribes, they wouldn't have the stamina or energy for that. It doesn't compare to protesting or drumming.

When you hear a chief say they have the power to bring the economy of the country to it's knees, the country that shovels millions money into their coffers, it's hard to even care a whit about them or have any respect for them.

In spite of what Paul Martin said, Theresa Spence is no inspiration.

FN tech?
Sorry it's early for me (actually 24hr pull, long story)
Could you explain?
Bit punchy here.

ps Mark M sometimes captcha glitches, just the nature of the beast, just click back, and try again, even if you know you nailed it the first time.

Give them the wheel, and they want the whole limousine

David, Ian Hunter is a former Anglican. At that writing, he was a Catholic convert -- and still is!

As for the captcha, it has a short time "tolerance"! If find that if I Preview my comments first it works all the time. You have to type in two captchas but so what?

Not fair, they did have food, clothes and um .... oh yes, long gun fire arms. In the fire arms rgistration law, Indiands were exempt because it was ttraditional for them.

The main problem with this whole issue is that young aboriginals have few role models today. Certainly there are some very principled and capable chiefs who preside over well-run reserves, but these are few and far between and these leaders are too busy or simply can't be bothered to get involved in the politics.

Instead, chronic losers such as the grossly incompetent and dishonest Chief Spence and professional trouble-makers such as the always victimized Pam Palmeter come to the forefront.

I would love to see a few of the competent chiefs step up to the plate and publicly disassociate themselves from the Idle No More mob. I think this would be a huge step in the right direction.

Nevermind Develop Fist Nation Technology?

Great Ideal, if their "low class" kids are given a chance to step up.
I taught Welding to one kid, the Cousins on the Rez pulled him back. Good kid, smart kid. At least he knows how to change tanks and spot leaks now.
And I have to say that at least one of those leaks (on welding tanks ((Argon, safe)) was caused by sabotage by a white student, being a GOOF. I threatened the clique with a beatdown but the damage was done.
Kid just knew.
So it's not ALL their fault, bigotry and racism absolutely exists.
Still no excuse for to scale of theft exposed.
And it happens on every Reserve. This Kid was dirt poor
Not anymore got his C-Ticket no more Rez for him.
Chief Escalade requires an Escalade size cell.

Let's have a sensible solution.

1. Reserves become federal municipalities.
2. Property rights on reserves - hey, how about in Canada BTW
3. Revenues from reserves become funds for tribal development, whether on of off reserve.
4. Financial accountability.
5. Shut down the department of Indian Affairs.
6. Stop the money flowing
7. How about some re-education to end the silly myths and gasoline sniffing.

For simplicity we should use some generic solutions that can be applied in a lot of places and I think we have an opportunity here - the "fire and re-hire" approach, like Reagan did with the air traffic controllers. Teachers in Ontario? Fire 'em all and re-hire on proper terms. Short term pain for a long term fix. Natives? Same thing - "fire" them all out of all current programs and "re-hire" them on proper terms. Clean out the riff raff and parasites and put those who truly have need, and are motivated to participate as Canadians, on much more direct programs. There's probably another 4 or 5 examples of where this could work - other public sector unions (especially municipal like the TTC), OPP who won't do their jobs, gold-plated auto workers, etc, etc. It's time to push the reset button on all of these because I just can't afford them anymore

I wonder of the founders of Idle had a conversation with a litigation lawyer, because the calls to shut down our economy can and will result in lawsuits via loss of revenue so can those who lose money sue those females directly?

Let's look at the bright side. If Canada really is in violation of the Canada Act of 1982 that re-patriated the Constitution, let's revert to the status quo ante and start again. This would allow us to jettison the "Charter of Rights and Freedoms" (whose main beneficiaries have been members of the bloated legal community) and restore parliamentary government.

babt, the former applied to both the law professor and Anglican -- sorry for any lack of clarity there.

Actually, I'm finding that you don't have to enter Captcha to preview, but you're right -- it is time sensitive, and previewing the comment puts new characters up, and away you go.

It is time to clamp down on these parasites,Give me more free stuff. The white man stole my land. It's the white mans fault i am a lazy useless drain on society. In Saskatchewan we have a booming economy.Employers are having to bring immigrants to fill jobs while we have thousands of Indians sitting on their lazy butts refusing to work.Enough is enough.!!!

There's obviously a power struggle going on in the native community right now. The problem is that the MSM is too busy trying to bash Harper to investigate this much more important issue. Where this power struggle is going to lead to is anyone's guess, but don't discount the idea of this thing becoming violent in the next few months.

The rent seekers count on the fact people have been taught by the education system that Indians are owed a living because...well, just because we were so bad to them.

A corrupted education system is at fault. Both sides have been taught lies...

Local Idlers are planning their FOURTH assembly since boxing day, for January 28.

I guess it's their version of the "peter principle" -rising to their level of absurdity.

Robert, a couple of your points to think on:

1. Under Section 92 of the Constitution Act (BNA Act), "Municipal Institutions in the Province" are an "Exclusive Power...of Provincial Legislatures." So you'd need to spell out what you mean exactly.

3. "Revenues from reserves" -- this is the elephant in the room, isn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a central implied element of the FN thesis as explained by Robson is that all, or substantially all, of the territory is theirs or was reserved for them -- and the Canadian courts in the last few decades have been systematically undermining the legal basis of Canadian sovereignty by essentially promoting this idea (particularly with respect to the former Rupert's Land, which is the real nut, IMO, rather than the little bits and pieces of central Canada ceded to Britain by the French in 1763). So the current definition of "reserve", I'm guessing, will be of no interest whatever to those FNs who have assumed this perspective.

7. Prescriptive educational content is not something I feel the majority population should be involved in: the poster-boy, flash-point of English-speaking "colonialism", formerly from the right but now from the left, throughout the world, which gives us all a bad name, is the do-gooding Anglophone "crusading" educator, whether religious or secular. The attitude infects politics everywhere -- including in Ontario right now; everybody knows a teacher with a teacher voice: "OUR work is so very important -- how DARE you claim any say in it!" As Loki says above, if they want it, they'll pay for it. Let them decide what content is important to them, or if they want it at all.
