“Censorship row as BBC cuts racist lines from classic Fawlty Towers episode.”
Incredibly stupid.
Lizard May complaining that the other parties don’t want to work with her, in the NP.
Here’s a big freakin greeny boohoo for you Lizard.
What an arrogant self-serving troll she is.
This woman had the gall to prune a bush WITHOUT doing a proper risk assessment. Needless to say she was fired.

Harper LOVES corporate welfare.
Both levels of government said they will contribute roughly $16.9-million each to the so-called “Project Lexus,” which is expected to create 400 jobs at the Cambridge facility.

And the Conservatives LOVE spending on random crap.
Since MPs fled Ottawa for the holidays Dec. 13, QMI Agency found that 151 cheques worth about $1.5 billion have been doled out.

Enjoyed the Irish News clip-typical Irish-good humour.
Don’t be too hard on Lizzard May, she serves a very useful purpose. Every Green vote helps the Conservatives.
Which I’m sure you will assert would be a much lower figure under Justin Trudeau or Martha Hall Findlay or some such, with absolutely no money missing.
And all of which would come complete with a replacement for the GST, which after 13 years in office, the Liberals, in the end, could only offer, having done absolutely nothing, that Harper should be cutting income taxes, which he also did — 25% combined corporate income tax rate in most provinces, except Ontario, where there’s a, you know, Liberal (non)government, or something, and numerous reductions in personal income taxes.
Which I think is just great, and all that, but the real travesty of this thread is that Ursula McCarthy has not yet been signed up by Sun News. As a matter of public record, I think I could actually be tricked into staying up late to watch her program, although I’m not at all convinced by the material that EBD posted this evening.
Go ahead, parse my words.
Oh look a Tory partisan with nothing more than BS hypotheticals. Because he can’t defend the CPC reality.

True enough, but everything she says, provides a target rich environment!
Its also fun to see her comrades in arms (Fiberals and Dippers) give her the straight arm.
“Most people thought they were part of the security systems installed by owners to protect against theft,” one Tehrani said. However the cameras are now required to be on during work hours and police have demanded access to the tapes, according to several business owners.”

“Prime Minister Stephen Harper said the federal portion would come in the form of repayable contributions.”
We should have just let the Lexus contract go to a Chinese, Japanese, or American manufacture I guess-can’t have the federal government loaning money to the manufacturing business sector of Ontario’s economy
Oregon State wants to outlaw cigarette smoking – make it criminal – bill does not say anything about cigars…Obama will have to smoke cigars when he visits Oregon! I guess Castro can still puff away on his stogies when he councils… Be careful what you ask for…the comments reflect this truism:
http://www.kptv.com/story/20662618/bill-proposed-in-oregon-would-make-cigarettes-prescription-only-drugs
The big stick behind this move, IMO..cutting Obamacare costs – no known former or present tobacco smokers will be treated for any ailment; smoking related or not, then it will be extended to fat people, people who drink booze, people who don’t wear bike helmets, people who drive motor bikes or convertables….Obamacare will be cheap for sheep but will not exist for 75% of the people who live in USA.
everything she says, provides a target rich environment!
…but of course, all the more reason to encourage her to keep opening her mouth and changing feet.
In my riding I usually don’t campaign for the conservatives, there are enough people already doing that. I encourage people to vote green. A fractured left is to our advantage. Keep the left acting like pigs on ice and we’ll get a majority every time.
Exactly. The government has no business making ‘investments’.
Open Question for my SDA friends:
I fully understand the reason why the Sun News TV hosts are pushing hard for Canadians to sign their petition. I agree with their goals and have already sent in my own letter supporting their petition to the CRTC.
I’m just wondering about something though: Surely it is in the best interest of the federal Tories to have the increased license for Sun News granted, isn’t it?
If they’re not granted it when a majority Conservative gov’t is in power then this country is truly screwed.
Is there anything flawed with my premise?
The CRTC is independent and reports recommendations through the Heritage Minister. I would imagine Harper could put some pressure on them but not without raising some strong opposition from the left if found showing favoritism.

Huffpo is concerned. Here is an “Sadie, an eleven year old trasgendered girl” who “socially transitioned from male to female in kindergarten” and is upset that Obama did not “address transgendered people too”.
“Her mom put it (the essay) on facebook.”
Sadie is “a vegan” and “wants to work for Green Peace when she grows up”. And a bunch of other stuff.

Apparently, Bob Rae’s going to keep this thing going. Headline from the G&M, aka the Probe and Fail:
Bob Rae pledges to take up cause as Chief Spence ends hunger strike
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/bob-rae-pledges-to-take-up-cause-as-chief-spence-ends-hunger-strike/article7666112/
(‘not behind a pay wall for some reason …)
“We are really reaffirming the need for the government to recognize this is a third order of government that needs to be treated with respect and there is an agenda that needs to happen,” Mr. Rae said.
Ms. Spence, he said, has done something quite courageous. “I don’t think she is giving in or giving up anything. I think she can walk out with her head high and with a deep appreciation from the communities around her about what she has tried to do.”
Bob Rae must have a PhD: Piled higher and Deeper.
When you look at what Rae did to decimate our doctor-situation in Ontario, any negotiations with FNs this grandstanding charlatan is involved in has got to stink — not to mention his animus towards PM Harper. Rae should keep his twitching fingers out of this pie.

A Spence supporter on the CBC says;
” Thank you for exposing Harper as an anti-itilectual”
Robert, is the issue about licencing, or is it about restraint of trade and unequal access for a user on the input side of the common carrier (which is what I thought the cable networks were supposed to be)?
I recall Sun being channel 15 or something on Rogers in SW Ontario up until they decided not to be pay Bell (and I guess Rogers) for access to their network(s) — the charges, according to Sun, being somehow discriminatory.
The cable networks are at least an oligopoly, if not a defacto monopoly (why, the two biggest companies are willing to be essentially partners in other businesses, like MLE), and Bell certainly has a perceptible interest in protecting Bell Media from competition (which the latter seriously needs and which must be the story behind the curtain, I’m guessing). I’m pretty sure that modern economic regulatory theory still supports the non-discriminatory equal-access common carrier infrastructure model, but I’ve been away from that field for a bit.
I’m guessing that Bell will be opposed to the application, as will CBC and Global, along will other parties who have similar economic and/or ideological axes to grind. One of the lame-o arguments that these folks will advance is that Canadians “have enough choice already, and that allowing Sun and others in will result in unsustainable competition which will undermine the “financial soundness” of the industry, blah, blah, blah” — a convenient one-size-fits-all portable cover story that I’ve seen used in other utility businesses.
As far as I know, the current Broadcasting Act was brought in by the Mulroney government and was left substantially or entirely unamended by the Liberals — so there’s that degree of bi-partisanship, as far as I know. Alas, as in all things, I have no idea what the NDP would do, other than to support the most restrictive and biggest monopoly arrangements possible (preferably actors state-owned, but cronyism accepted) with the biggest unions.
“Canadian troops’ Korean War hockey games inspire commemoration 60 years later”
“Hockey matches involving Canadian troops took place “in the sound of the heavy guns of nearby U.S. Army artillery,” just a short distance from the front lines of the struggle against Communist forces during the Korean War.”
“Canadian and South Korean officials are preparing to rekindle 60-year-old memories of morale-boosting hockey games played by Canadian troops on a frozen river amid the battlefields of the Korean War.
It would have been a startling sight for enemy soldiers from the hills above the Imjin River in the winters of 1952 and 1953 — Canadians fighting for the puck on shimmering ice between deadly battles for precious terrain on the Korean Peninsula at the height of the Cold War conflict.
The matches took place “in the sound of the heavy guns of nearby U.S. Army artillery,” just a short distance from the front lines of the struggle against Communist forces, said Korean War veteran Vince Courtenay.
And next month, in both Ottawa and Seoul, that wartime outbreak of hockey that briefly reminded Canadian soldiers what they were missing back home will be commemorated in outdoor events inspired by the Imjin River games.
Courtenay, who publishes a newsletter for Canadian veterans of the war, credits Korean-born Conservative Sen. Yonah Martin for organizing a Feb. 10 exhibition game on the Rideau Canal — to be held during Ottawa’s annual Winterlude festival and involving members of the military, MPs and others.
A week earlier, on Feb. 3, an anniversary match is scheduled to take place on an outdoor rink in front of Seoul’s city hall. That game, also involving Canadian military personnel and associated with a photo exhibit at the Canadian embassy, highlights the Imjin River Cup Memorial Hockey Tournament, an annual competition in the Asian city inspired by the Canadians’ war-era matches.”

Future Nobel Prize winner Chief Theresa Spence has been sent to hospital for observation!
Surely it is in the best interest of the federal Tories to have the increased license for Sun News granted, isn’t it?
Not really. Sun sometimes goes off the reservation and starts calling the government on its anti-markets and fiscally profligate policies. There’s no upside for the Tories. They probably see it as a loose cannon.
Question:
If ChIef Spence see’s her shadow when she emerges from her teepee today does that mean 6 more weeks of winter?

For US,yes, but not for the badly-weakened Chief, who,I suspect will soon be on her way to Hawaii or the Bahamas to recover from her ordeal.

Re Sun News;
In Calgary the most desirable channels are 2 through 16,as they are your most basic cable.
Cbc has 6,9,15. CTV has 2 and 3. That is a full third of the top slots and the top fees.
Sun News should have a slot in the top 50. If they don’t get it,it says a lot about the CRTC.
Jema54, You should just ignore anything you read about smoking during this week as it is anti-smoking week and the professional busybodies hold it every year at this time. Oregon is just blowing smoke. Same crap every year.
But, I didn’t delete my cookies. I don’t know how.
So, what does that mean, wallyj? Can someone else delete my cookies? (Somehow that sounds obscene!!!)
It only sounds obscene to you,and that is what matters.
If you are using Internet Explorer, click on that and then click on ‘internet properties., It should come up in the ‘General’ tab. Look for browsing properties and then delete them from there. You will also delete other stored info, such as your name and e-mail address that you use here, but that can all be re-entered. If you are using ‘Firefox’,I don’t have a clue.
