Russia is enduring its harshest winter in over 70 years, with temperatures plunging as low as -50 degrees Celsius. Dozens of people have already died, and almost 150 have been hospitalized.
The country has not witnessed such a long cold spell since 1938, meteorologists said, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees lower than the seasonal norm all over Russia.
Across the country, 45 people have died due to the cold, and 266 have been taken to hospitals. In total, 542 people were injured due to the freezing temperatures, RIA Novosti reported.
Mother of Invention: elephant antifreeze

I have Russian friends who live in Moscow and it is now -19 there and she says it is just bitter with lots of snow causing huge traffic jams. Her husband travels on business to Siberia where it is a nice chilly -50. They were here about a month ago when it was sunny and 13 in Toronto.
Lucky they own a place in Barcelona and head there next week.
“On a personal note, we would like to say that while we’re delighted this worked, we have to wonder one thing: When your best option in a situation is “fill the elephants with vodka,” just how hard are you thinking about the choices you’ve made with your life leading up to that moment?”
…BWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!
Loved the story about ‘fill the elephants with vodka’…!
Who wouldn’t use vodka as a blood thinner in SIBERIA?
Maybe Kate can start a new post under the global warming section entitled “Freezing in good spirits…!”
Stolychnaya should be a big seller this season.
A big Cheers!

Ahhhhhhh….they got it all wrong. Without global warming,it would be -55C.So cAGW is bad,as more people would die at colder temps, and help return Gaia to the pre-caveman days.
(Again…confusing weather with climate)
Climate change….caused by global warming…can I start over?
I suggest that we take all of the CAGW supporters and drop them off in Siberia dressed in T shirts and shorts. After all, snow is now supposed to be a thing of the past.
It will be interesting to see how the IPCC tries to spin this event; perhaps it will be Gaia’s revenge on a country that has refused to go along with carbon taxes or they’ll claim that this is just another example of reporters being lured to freezing Potempkin villages whereas the remainder of Russia swelters in CO2 induced heat.
The best thing that the Russians could do now is to let the Euroweenies know that Russia needs to keep its natural gas to stay warm and, since the Euroweenies have such a huge amount of energy production from bird blenders, they can use this “environmentally friendly” energy instead of the global warming causing evil natural gas. That act alone might be enough to bring down the CAGW house of cards unless the EU has created a race of sheeple that will freeze in the dark instead of dealing once and for all with the CAGW cultists.
NW Canada and Alaska have been experiencing the coldest temperatures in decades for the past few weeks. About 20° below long term normals.

I used the link to RT and it took over 90 seconds to access and download the story. This seemed strange so I exited my browser and used my quick clean prog (removes cookies, history, etc). I googled “russian freeze” and the first story was the same RT story. This time it took 7-10 seconds to access and load. As an experiment anyone who reads this might want to try the same.
Funny I don’t recall any russian weather stories when they were enduring freakish heat waves.
