Reader Tips

With less than 60 hours to go before our American friends start voting in one of the most talked about elections in recent history, we take a moment to review some famous political commercials from times past: 1950's 1952 1956 1960 1964 1968 1972 1976 1980 1984 1988 1992 1994 1996 2000 2004 2008 2010

Your reader tips are most appreciated in the comments.

1964 ... The height of scare tactics. And how has the left turned away from this since then? nada. In Canada, in the USA, and in Colombia / Venezuela, I've seen the same tactics used over and over again. Vote for us, or else.

Or else, the little girl gets it? or else the trees get it, or else the rivers get it... uff.

Kris introduces Bobby, Pat, Robbie, Liam, Tommy.

Excellent point Marc, little wonder guys like Katsmeat are so enamored with the Daisy Girl ad...fear is literally their stock in trade.

I've got a reader tip. Ever since the plane crash in Smolensk that led to the death of the Polish president and numerous Polish elites, there have been a series of crazy irregularities in the investigation into the crash, both by the Polish and Russian governments, that seem to indicate that there is a cover-up. The media here has ignored the controversy entirely, even though evidence is mounting that the accident was not due to pilot error and weather as first alleged, but rather because of some sort of explosion within the plane. Lately, evidence of explosives at the site of the crash has been uncovered (see www.freepl.info), but everyone in the English-speaking world has been ignoring it. This is a fascinating news story and nobody knows about it. Not to mention the fact that the bodies of the victims of the crash were not even put into their proper caskets! Please, could you bring this story to light?

"To return to office a narcissistic amateur who seeks to ride this nation's economy and international esteem to oblivion, like Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb to its target at the end of the movie "Dr. Strangelove," would be disastrous."

The WaPo notices some discrepancies in the Bengazi story, they even manage to give Fox News a backhanded compliment.

I don't agree with everything that this videographer says but I do find him to be a very interesting fellow. Not so much the other guy though.

It's almost impossible to lose an election when one of your sponsors owns the voting machines and your other sponsor owns the company that counts the "ballots" but there is no paper trail of the actual vote.

Add to that mix your propaganda department is made up of the main street media and the Hollywood studios and you have 47 million people who live off you for their existence.

The only hope for a real change is if people realize that when there is a disaster (like in New York and New Jersey) that you're on your own. Everyone is complaining that the government is nowhere to be found - SURPRISE!!!

Had one of those in BC Canada.

No pilot error could have caused that crash.

Autopilot mechanical, Human asleep at the controls, woke up in a weather fog, found a MOuntian.
They had to use DNA to identify the Pilot and Co-Pilot.

Ugly stuff.

Elderberries and thrown cattle to you, Sir. :)

“Liberals have always lived in the capitalist lap of luxury but have yearned for the poverty of communism. As they ardently advocate and support utopia at all costs, liberals are finally getting painful lessons from a hurricane, of what everyday life is like under communism - power goes out for weeks on end, water is turned off, hot water is seldom available, heat is anemic, wood, coal, gasoline, and heating oil are hard to find and expensive, and food is very scarce, distributed in long lines, with rationing coupons, or on the black market. The only difference between communism and a natural disaster is the culprit that causes all the pain and suffering – irrational control freaks or Mother Nature.”

"We ought not to think that to disarm ourselves before evil is virtue."

"In Defense of Strawberries And Cream"

"The United States has presided over the longest peace in modern history. It did not achieve this on the back of “moral superiority.” It attained this because it had sufficient strength and wealth to plant the flowers. We ought not to let people persuade us that weakness is good; that poverty is virtuous; that a dull sameness is all we must aspire to. We ought not to think that to disarm ourselves before evil is virtue. It is folly. We will all learn that lesson at one time or another in our lives. Only some will learn it too late.

Preserve the peace by keeping the ship in trim. And never, never willingly let it get away from you."

"In old, marginally solvent, tightly-packed European cities like Rome, there’s no way to recharge a battery-powered car and no municipal money to dig up streets to install a charging network."

"How the e-car revolution ran out of juice"

"A small, blue Chinese-built electric car lives on a narrow street around the corner from my apartment, in Rome. There is no charging post or electrical outlet nearby. So how does the owner juice up his car? He simply dangles an extremely long cord from his balcony and plugs it in.

That’s how recharging works for almost everyone who owns an electric car or scooter in Rome – an exceedingly small club, smaller even than the number of Roman drivers who stop at crosswalks. And that’s one of the main reasons why the e-car revolution has burnt out before it even started. In old, marginally solvent, tightly-packed European cities like Rome, there’s no way to recharge a battery-powered car and no municipal money to dig up streets to install a charging network."

This would be a fun exercise in Canada (or any democracy, for that matter).

Of course, those were just chumps on the street. Surely the results from the student body of an OHIO UNIVERSITY will be different. Right?

Wrong.

A website in Saudi gives advise;

" would it be permissible for a woman to drive a car? "

If a woman drives a car for necessity, than it will be compulsory that she abides by and considers all the regulations regarding hijab and veiling. There should be no unveiling and display in any form.

Driving for sisters will not be permissible for leisure and going around unnecessarily.

It is not permissible for a woman to learn how to drive from a man (strange man/ non mahram).

George Will's Prediction: Whoah!

Get ready for another term of office for President Obama, who can thank Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide for his second term. If you don’t believe in coincidence, then Alabama’s 21-17 victory over LSU on Saturday night ended the suspense of what up until now had been a pretty tight race.

USA Today reports that since 1984 the result of the LSU-Alabama game has perfectly mirrored the election results. If LSU wins, so do Republicans (Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush twice). When Alabama prevails (Clinton twice, and Obama in 2008), Democrats prevail.

European sites have been stable for the past week. William Hill lists Obama at 2/7 and Republican challenger Mitt Romney at 11/4, with Paddy Power pretty much an echo at 1 / 4 and 3/1. Costa Rica-based Ezstreetsports.com lists Obama at -330 ($330 bet to win $430), Romney at +270 ($100 bet to win $370)

Election numbers cruncher Nate Silver at the New York Times-sponsored election blog fivethirtyeight.com has dissected state polls from around the country and makes Obama a better-than 4-in-5 favorite (83 percent) to get it done on Tuesday night. Silver notes that of the last 22 polls in battleground states, Obama has led in 19, two are tied, and Romney leads in only one (Marist Poll of Florida voters).

Just thought I would pass this along, for the record I placed a $250 bet offshore to win $925 on Romney after the 1st debate. Looks like I'm on the wrong side.

Even more telling than the Ala-O-Bama game is the Redskins' last home game before the election. If the Redskins win their last game in Washington, the party in the White House keeps the White House. If the Redskins lose (like they did today, 21-13 to Carolina), the party in the White House loses the White House. This has worked for every election when the Redskins have played in Washington with one exception.

In 2004, this did not work because the NFL officials called the Redskins for Illegal Motion on what would have been the game-tying touchdown (the PAT would put them ahead). The Packers then went on to score again and win handily. So, when Dubya won the election, the conclusion among Redskin fans and soothsayers was that there was no illegal motion on that play and the Redskins should have won the game.

In 2008, the OBama-LSU game was played after the election, and also in 2004, 1996, 1992, 1984, 1980 (Bama won), and 1976 (Bama Won).
