Petraeus

Before anyone jumps the gun about Benghazi or other theories regarding Patraeus' resignation, it should be noted that having a secret affair while involved in the CIA is a very big deal.

You understand that he has some very big things in his head that have to remain secret. Setting yourself up for blackmail is a bad thing. He had to come clean.

Anyone else find the timing suspect?

Information released on a Friday, AFTER Rush Limbaugh show is finished at 3:00pm eastern time.

Hmmm.....

No mention of who else was involved in the alleged affair.

I will assume it's a small Afghan boy, and the Director was doing to him what Obama is doing to the U.S.

For a man with such high standards, this sign of weakness is out of character according to everyone who knows him (listening to Fox News).
Why did he accept the post if he knew he had this secret life and knew the potential damage to his career if it was discovered?
And he's too bright to think no one would find out about it.
Weird.

Well so much for "Petraeus 2016".

Maybe Slick Willy is starting early in getting rid of the competition.

"Petraeus 2016" is still very much in play, but the General will have to run as a Democrat.

My guess is he was told the admin would destroy him with an involuntary a departure, or he could leave now so that Obama could heap all the blame for Bhengazi on his back.

Once he's gone, the Dems can say anything they want about CIA failures, and there will be no pesky rebuttal, as There was from Petraeus during the campaign.

He's just lining himself for a job at CNN.

Saw a picture of him on Drudge. If that was his wife beside him, I can see why he had an affair.

I wonder if it's true, and as gellen points out, how could he accept the post in the first place if he was vulnerable to blackmail?

But I'd also suggest that if it's true, then, was the Obama WH blackmailing him into accepting the blame for Benghazi? Remember, as the WH was trying to set up the CIA as the 'fall guy', Petraeus immediately posted that the CIA had not refused any requests for assistance. That threw the faults back to the WH.

But now, Petraeus is also free to talk. Are the Obama Gang worried about this?

Something else is being reported; the affair was in the past and not recent.

I still think it's about Benghazi. Petraeus is now free to talk. He is scheduled to testify about Benghazi next week. How will the Obama Gang stop him? They can't blackmail him now. Will they say his testimony is now irrelevant and insist that he not testify?

Apparently, FOX is reporting that with his resignation, it means that he WON'T testify. Ah, that saves the Obama Gang.

If only he had been President he could have had as many affairs as he wanted.

Like our Naval officer in Halifax found out the hard way, extra-marital affairs and high security clearances are mutually exclusive. I know that a family friend called to ask if I had murdered somebody after a visit from the security folks prior to me getting a special clearance. But I still think it has to do with Benghazi.

Can they get Hillary Clinton to confess she had an affair?

I pity the poor bastard that would have to admit he was in on that.

Of course, now that Obama is safely back in the White House, it's not exactly likely that the co-respondent in what one hopes is Petraeus' upcoming divorce proceedings will be detained by the CIA until she (or he) comes clean about:

1. What Petraeus told her that he shouldn't have;
2. The name of the fellow who put her up to seducing Petraeus;
3. The enemy nation or terrorist group the recruiter belongs to; and
4. What guarantees she got in return for her services.

Apparenlty he won't be testifying at the Benghazi hearing, sorry but the stench on this scandal lies over the whitehouse.

It's like everything else this OBAMA mob does...amateur night...

Why would he need to publicly drag his wife into it? I'm hearing this was a past affair- he could have just resigned because of "personal" reasons and be done with it. No, there's more to this. Either he was being blackmailed and expected to be exposed while in office, in which case he preempted the inevitable revelation, or it's a cover.

Hillary? Affair?

In my wildest dreams I couldn't imagine being in or on, ahem ... that.

THAT, Fearless Leader, is Huma's function. There really ARE some jobs that real Americans just won't do...

The real President Obama is comming out, not even seventy two hours into his new administration. Hillery said to be parting Holder said to be departing. Now Petraus. I wonder if they gave him any choices such as a sudden heart attack or an affair? The Americans, half anyhow will beleive this.

As Joe Biden might say, "This stinks man."

In other news, Obama resigns, cites putting recycling on the curb when it should have been garbage.

From Powerline (on the question of why now):

[But the affair apparently took place some time ago. Petraeus says it happened “after 37 years marriage.” He has been married for more than 38 years.]

If if felt the obligation to resign, sounds like it should have happened a while back.

I saw the guy at the Calgary Stampede a couple of years ago. I looked like he would struggle to get his pants on and off, let alone have an affair.

This has to be a joke. It was her Bigographer and the book is called "ALL IN"

So he has an affair and resigns.
Let me adjust my tin foil hat and discourse on a conspiracy theory.
Lets presume that forces where at work to set up the general.
Someone manages to get "evidence" of him in a compromising position.
The general, if he's as sharp as I think he is, gets wind of this and pre-empts the setup by immediately offering his resignation. At this point in my diatribe I point out that it matters not what the evidence, or nature of the setup in question was, its that the general acted to out maneuver his enemies attack leaving them on the hook now to find something else to accuse him of but not outing themselves at the same time.
I suspect that the administration is getting ready to blame the death of the ambassador and the navy seals on the military, but to do so they needed a well respected individual to co-opt the suspension of disbelief.
The general was supposed to cave to these chicago tactics, being in the business of fighting wars, the administration just got co-opted by a brilliant tactician.
The President screwed up when he pleaded for the general to reconsider.
I'll now remove the tin foil hat, nothing to see here.

Mkelley @ 4:10 " "Petraeus 2016" is still very much in play, but the General will have to run as a Democrat."

Heh.

As Top Dude at the agency, he is required to resign.
Extra-marital affairs are, as noted above, verboten and fraught with danger.
When did the alleged tryst occur and what was the duration? male or female?
Answer those, and you will then begin to understand the "politics" of this.
I would like to align with the political aspect of this sad event, as our enemies on the left and in Media make everything political. Not enough data to assume it is related to the Benghazi 4 (may they rest in peace), but it sure smells like it.
Wasn't it Henry Kissinger who said that power was an aphrodisiac? Maybe the General was just a classic Horn-Dog. Nothing like having your dirty laundry aired out world-wide.

Not a conspiracy theorist but.... something stinks here.

My, my ,my, that Nobama bus has big wheels, and lots of room under it.

me thinks something stinks!!!!

The "other" woman: Paula Broadwell, his biographer

I hope his (Big!) life insurance policies are fully paid!

And he has security detail on the ready!

I'm sure it's all just a coincidence that this affair JUST came to light and that his not testifying JUST happened.

I had Fox News on earlier this aft in the background whilst doing odd jobs at the cottage. This, of course, was breaking news. All I thought was 'give me a friggin break'. It does have one effect. It proves the transparency of the Obama government. Nobody could expect to tell a whopper this big and have everyone buy in to it.

This is another "But Glenn Beck is the crazy one" moment.
He called it on Oct.26 that petraeus would eventually step down.
That damn Beck, he scary!

I just read the wikipedia bio on Petraeus. He has had a highly successful and distinguished career since being a cadet at west point. I know he is human but I don't believe that he would have had the career he has unless he is of unimpeachable character. Just a hunch but I believe he is being set up to take the fall. It will be interesting to see how this comes out of the wash.

The Incident
A short work of fiction

The phone rings in an L.A. Hotel. General David Petraeus is watching election returns on T.V.
“Petraeus here.”
“Sir, we have some documents from the 2nd Asst. to the Deputy Sec. State for you to sign.”
“Well, send them over to my room, I’ll be here all evening.”
“Yes sir, on the way. Assistant Vice Deputy Sec. Sister Mary Pompom will be bringing them over.”
The caller is a Black Hat who then prints out a bunch of official looking bogus docs with dotted lines for signature.
The Black Hat calls Happy Hooker Rental Services, Inc.
“Please send me your hottest, blondest hooker.”
The hooker arrives at the Black Hat office, is handed docs and $50,000 in medium sized bills.
“Give him these docs, use this other paper to explain why he needs to sign them. Keep him busy for at least 10 minutes. If you can have sex with him, so much the better. Remember to smile for the security cameras in the hallway.”
The hooker arrives, presents herself as Sister Mary Pompom. Petraeus spends half an hour trying to reach someone on the phone who knows about these papers. After 30 minutes, Hooker volunteers to come back tomorrow with the papers after the confusion is straightened out, and leaves.
Hooker leaves. It took a long time, and Petraeus didn’t sign any papers, because they didn’t look right.
The next day, and several days before scheduled testimony, a call comes to Petraeus, “You know that testimony you were going to give to Congress about Benghazi. You *will* lie, and say this….blah blah blah, or we’ll show the security footage to the news media.”
“But I didn’t do anything but refuse to sign papers!!!”
“Really, well, we have Holly Hotness, the hooker, who will testify that you asked for a “personal service” and she gave it to you.”
“You bastards!” Hangs up phone.
Talks to wife. They decide that he needs to admit to having an affair. That will remove the wind from the frame-up/blackmail sails.
So Petraeus resigns, saying he “betrayed my family” and not “for personal reasons, to spend more time with my family” which is often what public figures who get caught in an affair say.

disclaimer: I did *not* know at the time I posted that, that Gen. Petraeus' wife's name was "Holly". Oops. Ma mal.

Fer gosh sakes, NO TESTIMONY AT SENATE HEARINGS NOW.

Why ya think he got promoted?
They had a handle on him now.
This is an excuse. A setup. Preplanned fall guy, gonna be getting a million per year in defense consulting soon.
He's Dem brass, remember?

Weeeeel, Ol Dave's first mistake was sticking around 4 years ago with Obama and that Chicago crowd. It's the "Old lie down with dogs, get up with fleas" trick. And ..... drum roll .... the title of the book .... I can't do it. Look it up yourself.

The FBI has been investigating for awhile and the White House was informed.

Before the election.

Before. People. Voted.

It ain't over kids, it has barely started.

Timing is everything.

Oh yeah, and he's such a prize in the looks department?!?

Jan- exactly why a hottie might be a... ahem, 'head turner' to him.

Sure, Snaggle but that has little to do with his wife - more to do with his um, er, shortcomings.

If what is being reported is true, his wife should be left out of it.

Don't you get the feeling here that there's a sh1tstorm of galactic proportion just over the horizon?

Man, if Barry got re-elected just to get impeached and slung in the slammer, I am going to laugh my @ss off for real. Hahaha-thud.

Jan your to picky.

Let me help you with that a@c:

Jan, you're too picky.
