I'll be leaving Denmark shortly and for most of the next 24 hours will be incommunicado over the Atlantic. Go take a breather, and allow the bread and circus community a few hours to celebrate.

Yes, I know many are disappointed, if not downright concerned on behalf of our friends in the US who still retain the ability to do math. But look at it another way - the next four years are sure to bring blogging gold. Remember - he inherited this mess.

Wise words Kate. But I do fear that this is a turning point for America for the worst. Listening to Obama's speech right now is downright scary. He is behaving as if he received 100% of the vote. Truly frightening stuff. I have lived long enough and seen enough to know where this is going.

Safe travels. Thank you profoundly for your blog.

This one really needed to be won. We're looking at some really transformative stuff ahead.
In a hundred years this could be Chapter 5 in the 'How Osama Destroyed The United States' textbooks.

This is an excellent column looking at what lies ahead for Obama.

One word: MISERY

I guess there still isn't in flight internet over major oceans, but hopefully that will soon change. Enjoy yourself, Kate, in the remnants of western civilization.

Hopefully you'll still have the ability to blog during the next 4 years.

My country plunged the dagger into its heart in 2008. Tonight, it gave it a firm twist.

I guess the good news is that a punctured aorta will bleed out much faster. Maybe that is a blessing in disguise, because the already-inevitable economic and social implosion is now going to happen much more dramatically.

Kate - I hope you have a comfortable and pleasant trip home. This US citizen thanks you for your support in our time of crisis. The only consolation is that Obama may finally have to own some of the shit he has shat.

Kool Aid. I told you that you people were drinking Kool Aid. I don't say that as any sort of an affront toward your political convictions. That's not the point. The point is, I reiterated the blatantly obvious: Obama would win on election day because it was foretold in the polls. There was no reason to believe this wouldn't happen in the last week or so. Most of the time polls work. They work better when there are more polls. In the states there are gazillions of them. And it decreases the margin of error when you aggregate all the polls.

Still, so many clung on to these ridiculous pundits that predicted magical blocs of votes from the mysteriously unaccounted for.

People that make a living in this business are not out there to destroy their reputations for partisan gain. At the end of the day, their pay checks come from being right. If they're not right, nobody pays for their business next time around. In 2004 the left did the same thing with Kerry. Your gut feelings don't matter. Don't point to small incidences like the Alberta election to make yourself feel better. Be honest with yourselves when the obvious is in front of your bloody faces. Again, it is so much easier.

I only allotted Obama 290 electoral votes in the competition thread, so I'm doubting that I won, but if I did, I want my friggin books.

I know disagreeing around here is considered "trolling", but a lot of you would do well to step out of this love in once in awhile so that you aren't suspected to the same sort of grand delusions that you espoused in your electoral predictions. I'm speaking to you C_Miner...and so many others.

Anyway, beyond my righteousness, I'm sorry for the loss. I know it sucks when someone that runs contrary to your convictions is successful politically. We've all been on both ends. Let's hope the next four years result in prosperity regardless of one's stripes.

Just woke up and looked at the results.

We kicked Obamas ass here in North Carolina,
and we elected a new Republican Governor.

That will teach them to never come here again for their National Conventions.

Good Riddance..

night all.

Have to go to work tomorrow and give half my pay to a bunch of Clowns and foreigners.

Look at the bright side 4 more years will result in a US national debt of ~22 trillion. What could possibly go wrong?

Gold and precious metals look pretty good...

The End Of America As We Knew It..
happened long before this election.

It started when Americans chose cheap imported products over better quality domestic products, somewhen in the 70s when the balance of trade started tipping negative. It's been a downhill slide since then.

The dumbing-down of the education system and the obesity epidemic says it all.

In a democracy the people generally get the government they deserve.

It just goes to prove that you can fool half the people twice.

Bush did it, now Obama.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.
R.A.Heinlein

Have to go to work tomorrow and give half my pay to a bunch of Clowns and foreigners.

If that's the case then you're not doing it right.

Just like a delusional alcoholic, the American people just haven't found bottom yet...

"It started when Americans chose cheap imported products over better quality domestic products, somewhere in the 70s"

And all those Americans including Republicans, who turned a blind eye to illegal immigrants just so they could have cheap labourers and housemaids.

That's it for the US. By the time the next election comes around there will have been an amnesty for illegal immigrants and there will be 40 or 50 million new leftist voters in the US. You would think that people who fled failed states would be smart enough not to vote to make the one they fled to a failed state too.

The BEST hope for western civilization is that the US now splits into two countries, where there is one country of people who live in a reality based paradigm and one of delusional idiots.

There is now likely no turning away from total economic collapse. Go long on gold silver and lead and short pretty much any company that needs a functioning economy to make a a profit.

Sorry, Kate, but any American who is gullible or stupid enough to believe Bush created Obama's first-term problems is gullible or stupid enough to believe he created Obama's second-term problems. Obama is America's "magic negro." People rub him, and he gives them "free" stuff.

The ONLY way this is going to turn around for the Republicans is if the American economy truly craters and increasing amounts of people experience personal hardship. The best hope for America is millions of producers "going Galt."

The demographic landscape of America has shifted even without amnesty for illegal immigrants, so much so that it is reasonable to argue America is the new home of the serfs. Individualism has lost to the collective and it is difficult at present to envisage how the political Right are going to reverse that tide.

If there was ever a klaxon call about the perils of immigration, the American 2012 election is it.

"just remeber he inherited this mess"

Yeah and he is about to inherit another ....his own!!!

Bye bye america !!

the makers in america out number the takers ...and atlas shrugged!!

If they hadn't had that dumb revolution, Gov.-Gen. Sowell could be swearing in PM Ryan next week :-(

Obama won, USA lost.

To add insult to injury they succumbed to Joe Biden's sneer, they fell for the whole package.

I fear for my children and grandchildren, I fear for the USA, I fear for Canada and I fear for the world.

Here's why you lost:

- "I will say this , if Obama wins ,it will be all over for America they will have become a socialist/Marxist/communist. Country"
- "A curse on Obama, his family, and his evil communist minions."
- "Stupid people (regardless of taxes/jobs) shouldn't be able to vote."
- "As of tomorrow, the United States is a Third World country with an African dictator."
- "...the USA is turning into a hispanic/african leftist/socialist hell hole."
- "America has voted back in a SOCIALIST who will endeavour to continue to promote his socialist/commmunist agenda."
- "The lesson is taught again - when will some conservatives get it that you do not become a better conservative by acting more liberal?"
- "Enjoy the useless African dictator before a coup of angry, machete-wielding thugs take him out. That's how things usually go in Third World nations, which the US is now."
- "So the 47% that don't pay taxes plus illegal immigrants voted for free cell phones at the expense of some one else."
- "How sad , a first world country , controlled by a third world electorate... close the borders."
- "When you have over half your country living on welfare, food stamps, and free phones, they are going to vote for their master."
- "Obozo is not at all rational and has a totalitarian agenda. Thus, the best case scenario for the US is a second civil war. At least that will give the side of freedom a chance to eliminate the forces of darkness. The worst case scenario is that the US slides into 3rd world dictatorship status and western civilization is destroyed."
- "The speaker of the house is 3rd in line after the president and vice president. I'm sure that millions of people have worked out the process of getting a Republican president in the current political mess and I suspect that Obozo and Biden will be more heavily shielded than any individuals in US history. One can only hope there are some patriots in the US Secret Service who might have some accidental discharges in the direction of certain loathsome totalitarians."
- "The BEST hope for western civilization is that the US now splits into two countries, where there is one country of people who live in a reality based paradigm and one of delusional idiots."

In short, by mistaking for reality the hyperboles, untruths, and propaganda of your self-imposed echo-chamber.

Or, as "(the other) James" wisely puts it:

- "I'm beginning to question the wisdom of living in a media world where it's simply a right-wing echo chamber...I'm 35, a vet, and donate the maximum to the Tories every year...We conservatives often do live in a right wing echo chamber. We go online here, FFoF, Breitbart, Drudge, we watch Fox and Sun news, we read the National Post, we read Steyn. We discount nearly every other news source. As it turns out, the sources we turn to are about 1% less than half the story. And that, my friend, is something we need to be cautious of."

You may want to heed his words, and consider some self-reflection.

So, let's see (on that popular votes thingee):

Ronald Reagan 1980 - 43.9 million
Ronald Reagan 1984 - 54.5 million (+ 11.6 million)

Bill Clinton 1992 - 44.9 million
Bill Clinton 1996 - 47.4 million (+ 2.5 million)

Geo. W. Bush 2000 - 50.5 million
Geo. W. Bush 2004 - 62.0 million (+ 11.5 million)

Barack Obama 2008 - 69.5 million
Barack Obama 2012 - 59.4 million (- 10.1 million)

Hmm. Anybody notice an outlier? Just curious.

Also:

John Kerry 2004 -- 59.0 million

Mitt Romney 2012 -- 56.9 million

So,

- Barack gets a bit more than John Kerry did in 2004 and wins,

- but somehow 5.1 million of George W. Bush's votes go AWOL (with a bigger electorate),

- and Mitt loses by 2.2% of the PV (which, contrary to a false assertion above, was not foretold by the collection of all those polls that work better when there are a lot of them).

Seems to me that somebody was telling the pollsters one thing, and then didn't go out to vote. Which, if true, is disgusting. I understand that elections are always won and lost by somebody, but normally, if I have to lose, I like to lose because my opponent has a more interesting program, or is a better speaker, etc., not because of something completely stupid and crude as not showing up.

I would sincerely hope that the 5.1 million people who voted for George W. Bush didn't not show up because of Mitt Romney's, er, private belief system, when so much was at stake. If that was their, you know, non-motivation, then the problems with America and the American right are brought into relief in a shocking way that I would not ever have thought possible. The American left, by comparison, doesn't bother me -- I just expect their crap (and one person who lost big time last night was Barack Obama).

I am thoroughly angry at those who did not show up yesterday -- you richly deserve what's comin' your way.

North American History has shown Canada trailing the United States in nearly every facet of life, including stylish trends, language usage, apparel, financial investment, even food, driven by mass media programming, emotional excitement, peer pressure, or the desire of 'being hip'.
Canada had trailed, usually by ten years with one single exception!
Canadians had a LOVE AFFAIR with the closet communist, Pierre Trudeau and elected him as Liberal Party leader, to be the Prime Minister of Canada.
It has taken FOURTY YEARS for Canada to recover(at least partially) from that disastrous love-in.
Now our American neighbours have chosen the same path with the closet communist Barak Obama .... and may never recover their former glorious Nation of Liberty.

Yesterday ourAmerican neighbours have made the free democratic presidential choice to (SADLY!) follow Canada's path to socialism, for perhaps the next fourty years, as did Canada, after Liberal Pierre Trudeau's communistic adventure.

Canada has NOW the good fortune of electing a conservative administration with an exceptional Prime Minister and Statesman, head and shoulders above the current world leaders.
I wish our Freedom loving American neighbours well in their choice of a closet communist as their leader.

This is why socialists make sure that history is not taught in schools. Only a populace that is ignorant of what befell Argentina, the Weimar Republic and Zimbabwe would re-elect someone as fiscally incompetent as Obama.

I can smell the sizzle from here.

I want the free stuff.

I want someone else to pay.

I voted for you so give me my free stuff.

This time there are no promises to keep. Seriously he did not promise anything.

I've heard the word REVENGE being uttered quite a bit by the democrats, including Obama, over the last few days. I guess they feel they need to get even with anyone who dared stand up to their great fraudster. I can see the US military taking a huge budget cut and a purging of their top leadership for not supporting Obama even though he is responsible for the murder of an ambassador and two former Navy SEALS in Libya.

Dreadful. Had Romney won, he may have been able to staunch the economic hemorrhage. He would not have been able to win the cultural war. His economic policies would have enraged the takers. They would turf him after 4 years, and undo what he had done.

Seems things will have to get much, much worse before they can get better. Is that too optimistic?

Hunker down, folks. This will be ugly. For all of us.

Hey Davenport. Hows FEMA doing these days? Awesome, eh?

I'm not wrong about Obama. I'm not wrong about FEMA. I was pretty seriously wrong about the voting public. Oh well. I can't read people at the best of times, we all have our limitations.

So now we get four more years of the USA pedal-to-the-metal aimed straight at the wall Greece just hit.

Self reliance and personal sovereignty is a hard sell to people living on welfare in Detroit. But if you want to -fix- Detroit, that's what you've got to do. The alternative is to NOT fix it. What's that going to look like, Davenport?

When Hollande the socialist won in France, I thought: "well so be it, maybe they need to tax the rich right out of existance and lower the retirement age to 50 to really finally get the point that socialism doesn't work". However, USA is much closer to home and our economy is well and truely entwined with theirs so this is going to hurt.

The other point is that we still have a Republican majority in the house. In a way, that's worse, since it gives an excuse to Obama for the ongoing fiscal decline.

You know, instead of opposing him maybe the Republicans should just give Obamessiah everything he wants. Let him wreck the country, at least for now. The majority who voted him back into power deserves to suffer the consequences of their actions, and if he really trashes the place there may never be another liberal government afterwards.

The Americans have never had socialism before, and I always thought they had the sense not to try it. But maybe the burnt finger teaches best...

Never in the history of mankind has willful ignorance and widespread stupidity brought so low so great a nation.

On the upside I wonder if the American capital will migrate north.

The republicans were running their A team this election and Romney came close in popular vote. The right didn't present itself (in general) as raging, ignorant, drooling, gun toting, religious nuts who don't understand taxation. What I mean is that Romney didn't dig a hole for whoever comes next.

Americans lost a lot of international respect by electing George Bush the second time. Obama is seen in a much more positive light. He'll most likely stay out of expensive wars and be able to make some tough decisions about cutting spending.

There's hope.

Well,at least the couch and all the ni^&&&ers are happy.More free phones.Hey.Maybe phil and iberia will now move down to their Utopia!
Man.The crash is going to be good.Get your popcorn. And not to worry. The Muzzie will find some way to still blame it on Bush, and vote present.God help us,as the Yanks are f&*cked, and didn't even get a kiss.

Uh... couldn't have said it better myself.

The U.S.A's answer to Dalton McGuinty....

In two years President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are going to be grinning at each other across the table at summit meetings, while the little people groan under the burdens of their policies.

Sigh.

Dear America: hunker down, work hard, love your family, and deal with the fact that as the years go by the takers are going to get more and more of what you make and you will have less and less return for your tax dollars to show for it. It's the way of the world everywhere now. Your country has tipped over. Those riding the wagon outnumber those pulling it and will continue to vote themselves more and you pullers less. When the inevitable financial collapse happens a tyrant will rise up to control the chaos and your Republic will be no more. It was great while it lasted. Thanks for everything you've done for this crazy planet -- you were the best top dog the world ever had.

Our poor kids. We've failed them.

Anyone else wondering if the Blind Sheik is already on a plane to Egypt?

"He'll most likely stay out of expensive wars and be able to make some tough decisions about cutting spending."

Don't count on it. Everytime a democrat is in the white house America's enemies get emboldened. Obama is a weak leader who will try to find scapegoats for his lack of action and will apologize to those who attack America. He is a worthless POS. Expect another embassy attack under Obama's regime. And don't be surprised when Iran starts flexing some muscle in the middle east with the backing of China and Russia. I'm sure he will ignore it and the MSM will under-report and cover up any inaction by him.

And as for cutting spending, this guy has TRIPLED the debt in only 4 years. The only cuts he will make will be for the sake of putting that money into Obamacare and into green initiatives that will fail. Expect the borrowing from China to go on unabated.

Fay, I'm thinking the Isamists are having a party today.

Have not seen it yet, but I am sure the headline on my local fish wrap will blare: Soros Wins Big!

Joe, 9:12 a.m. --

Astute observation about the capital flows -- I happen to believe that you are correct (along with a reversal of the brain drain). Who's going to invest in American now?

This development, assuming it materializes, will be beneficial longer-term in a number of ways (not the least of which is having more economically conservative voters in our electorate). However, it will also foist some serious disruptions and dislocations on the Canadian economy. Coupled with QEIII, IV, V, VI..., capital flows to Canada will cause a rise in the Canadian dollar vs the U.S. dollar, which will hurt exports for however long such a revaluation lasts. On the other hand, that would hopefully add more pressure for significant changes in provincial spending, tax, regulatory and energy policy, particularly in Ontario and Quebec, in order to improve the competitiveness of our businesses.

A broader question, though, is where does Canada go from here? It's clear now that the Americans are going to back away farther and faster from the notion that the North American marketplace is a partnership under a sort of joint-management arrangement. Mitt Romney was saying all the right things on this front (expanded free trade, North American energy independence, etc.), but none of those things is of any interest to Obama (maybe things'll be different -- as if; too grubby and pedestrian for him and Paul Krugman, I'm sure). It's this sort of stuff that I find discouraging: 1988 was about both countries agreeing on a form of co-management of our future economic direction; now we have a completely ignorant majority voting for an economically-illiterate administration, which will now unilaterally decide to change the decades-old arrangements for whatever short-term domestic political considerations they'll choose to pay attention to.

China, Russia, Iran, Egypt, Venezuela, Cuba, Brazil. All happy campers this morning. The rest of the world? Probably happy until they realize the long term results. High taxes, high unemployment, low investment, grid lock in Washington. The Alinskyites are in heaven with Bill Ayers and his ilk seeing the end in site. The death of America. The bill will be coming due in short order, and it includes Bibi having to take the action that barry would never take, so war in the Middle East. Russia will ramp up their shipment of arms to Syria, China will continue to expand their empire in Africa, the Muslim Brotherhood takes firm and crushing control in Egypt and breaking their treaty with Israel. Any Americans with any money left will leave the country to avoid having all their assets confiscated, so perhaps Canada will enjoy a time of increased investment. I doubt they want to go far, but to stay will result in their hard work denigrated and taxed into oblivion. We, for now at least, have a business friendly environment here and we should welcome them with open arms. This could be our century as long as we can avoid the trap of the CPC stagnating and becoming stale and tired. Those indications seem to be setting in. The idea that we could end up with the light weight little weasel (I can't even write his name) in charge of the lieberal party, could very well mean the end of western civilization. Britain has surrendered to Sharia, Europe has surrendered to Islamic immigration and bankcruptcy because of their socialist policies, Asia will see China in ascendancy and expansion. The NYSE is down a couple of hundred points already this morning. The fiscal cliff approaches but barry has been given the keys to the kingdom for another 4 scary years.

Glenn Beck said it best today on his show - elections have consequences`.

The US dollar fell against the Euro. THE EURO. You know, the place that has Italy, Greece, and Spain, the ones being BAILED OUT.

Israel woke up this morning and will realize that they are well and truly alone.

Well, Americans that care can always move to New Zealand. At least their sheep are real sheep.

I find it hard to believe that in a nation of 300 million people, Obama and Romney are the best candidates their system could generate. Surely, somewhere in America a leader exists who can dig this once great country out of the pit they now find themselves in.

On the upside, America will only have four more years of Obama. Hopefully, that will let the people of the United States search around for a new leader with the intellect and experience needed to rise up from the depths they will now be plumbing.

David, you are right. The Obama administration has no idea where wealth comes from; how it's generated. They just think it's there for the taking. As Thatcher once said about socialists, they concentrate on redistributing wealth rather than creating it.

"Economically illiterate" indeed. America in decline . . . that's trouble for Canada.
