Country where I was born had a democratically elected government right after WWII, in 1948 they elected communists. There could be an argument made that the elections were fixed since the big 4 decided that uncle Joe could decide whatever east of north/south line in the middle of continental Europe .

Anyway, the government in the country became social democrats/communists. Soon thereafter, the show trials started. This is not a myth, they, the communists published a whole book of the trial, I read it. The trial was scripted so they did not really have to collect any transcripts; they had the whole story at their fingertips.

The whole social democrat/communist government was killed off, either executed or minister here and there would have a fatal accident or suicide.
