15 Seconds

Watching this video, one cannot help but think about what it would be like to be living under such circumstances.
In Canada, most people who identify themselves as being “On the Left” always seem to support the Palestinians and oppose the Israelis.
Thought Experiment: Imagine your community in Canada periodically had rockets fired at it by people on a not too distant Native Reserve, claiming that they were oppressed and their land had been stolen. In the aftermath of the destruction of people and property, do you think the same folks on the Left would continue to be as tolerant and understanding of those wreaking the havoc? Or would their views “miraculously” change faster than one could utter the words “complete hypocrites”?!
Update: The views from the Left and the Right.   (h/t ‘rabbit’)

  1. I’ve done that thought experiment before, Robert. Six Nations Mohawk Drinking Society fires on Toronto with long range missiles. Only 70 miles, it could be done.
They get eradicated to the last man, and it happens inside of a week. Survivors get relocated to Hudson’s Bay.

  2. Sorry Phantom. This is a more likely scenario:
Rockets land in Toronto, dozens dead and hundreds of homes burned. CBC immediately claims disgruntled American Tea Bagger Voters are to blame. Mayor of Toronto makes a public plea against a Islamophobic backlash. NDP declares this is the result of the dismantling of the gun registry and further proof of Harper’s War on Women. RCMP does nothing for fear of charges of racism. Palestinians are amazed at the skill of the Mohawks at spinning an obvious murderous attack into pure PR Gold. Mohawks shrug and think again “white people are so stupid” and proceed to fire more rockets on the city.

  3. I’m with Doug. This problem would require leadership.
I mean STRONG leadership. Fighting while the media is on the other side is very difficult.

  4. Er, no.
The Indians actually have already almost done that. What do you call Oka and Caledonia? These guys NEVEr get irradicated. The more we “genocide” them, the more of ’em there actually seem to be!!
Although thanks to my pal The Phantom for providing me with a hot alt history fantasy scenario at least! Doug is the one who nails it.

  5. Yeah,Doug’s got it! To continue” then Toronto agrees to pay rent to the Mohawks, and the Injuns are given the keys to the city.
Mayor Chow declares that no white woman can refuse to have sex with any member of the Mohawk tribe.
Several hundred sensible Torontonians move to Hudson’s Bay. The rest learn to live with the new rules and Mayor Chow is mentioned as the next PM for her good work in handling the crisis.

  6. Here’s a thought for the Arab leadership. Go after the Hamas and other Islamist nutbars instead of blaming Israeli “aggression” which is simply a response to Palestinian escalation with missiles now hitting Tel Aviv. When will they admit the problem is the Islamists who will keep upping the ante until there is a major war in the ME? Of course the answer is they never will.
Obama has thrown Israel under the bus and left them to their own devices, with the typical one-sided response of how bad and mean the Israelis are. What Andrew Coyne stated during the last Palistinian aggression still holds, “Israel is free to defend itself as long as it doesn’t defend itself.”
Too bad the US has a president who, besides taking the US Jewish vote for granted, is held hostage to the radical leftists who currently own him and determine all his policies. Instead of sending a clear signal to Islamists everywhere that he won’t tolerate their terrorism he does the opposite and refuses to meet Israeli PM Neyanyahu.
IMHO there is an obvious link between Obama’s refusal to meet Netanyahu – it led directly to the escalation of missile attacks by Hamas – and the deadly response from the Israelis who no doubt have decided they are alone on this and must therefore take matters into their own hands. It’s no coincidence these attacks have been intensified after Obama won the US election. They couldn’t take a chance on him losing the election and eliciting a more hawkish US response.
Four more years of vacant, leftist foreign policy garbage from the Dem Jew haters. What does the next four years hold? I think it will get pretty ugly; the world is a much more dangerous place thanks to the free stuff US voters.

  7. redneek24 @ 8:55;
I kinda agree with you but I am not up on Jewish politics enough to understand their rationale.
Rather than worrying about the quasi Jews in America and even Europe I would be more interested in what Israelis say. After decades of this BS they talke from their neighbours I could understand if they capitulated to international demands out of exhaustion, physical and mental.
I have often considered Israel’s situation similiar to the whites in S. Africa. 1st world cultures superimposed onto 3rd world realities. Israelis will never be able to trust their Arab neighbours. I would continue to build the walls and continue to build out their missle defence. ANy attack has to be met with massive retaliation.
Palestinians have been pawns in ME politics for decades. The unfortunate consideration is that they know that but play the game for the benefits it brings them. The irony is that if Israel is wiped out what is left? Just another strip of desert. Look at the aerial photos showing Gaza vs Israel. Slums on one side and gardens on the other. Enough said.

  8. Scroll down to the second picture. Man, the “Palestinians” are good! Just look at the concern on Haniyeh’s face.
    Pallywood
Senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh (2nd R) and Egypt’s Prime Minister Hisham Kandil (2nd L) touch the body of a Palestinian boy, who was killed in an Israeli air strike, during a visit to a hospital in Gaza today.
As good as IDF’s truthful propaganda is, you can’t beat dead “Palestinian” children.

  9. Natives in BC fire metaphorical rockets that try to destroy resource industries. The rockets are supplied by foreign eco-conglomerates like Tides and Greenpeace.

  10. It’s been said before.
It can’t be said often enough:
“If the Arabs lay down their arms, there will be peace in the Middle East.
If the Israelis lay down their arms, Israel will cease to exist.”

  11. It would take a lot less than 15 seconds for the left in this country to surrender and hand everything over, then beg for mercy.

  12. Must disagree, Doug and Kathy. All the MDS (Mohawk Drinking Society) depredations have occurred in -Caledonia-, a goofy little town that nobody important has ever heard of.
Let them land a couple dozen rockets up around Yonge and Eglington, maybe anywhere along Avenue Road/University. That’ll be -different-.
    My thinking is as follows:
You’ve noticed the Indian (MDS) Occupation in High Park is over now, right? Its not over in Caledonia. That’s because (I speculate) the Metro Toronto cops quietly told them to get the hell out of the park before somebody might “fall down the stairs” at 52 division. Or maybe have a ride on the Cherry Beach Express. Same thing happened in Hamilton when MDS “protesters” showed up at the new Ancaster Fair site one day around 2006, the Hamilton cops had them gone in a couple hours. The threats of falling down the Queen Street stairs were not quiet that time, the news pictures show dogs and shotguns prominently displayed.
Whereas in Caledonia the OPP only ever arrest Garry McHale. Garry McHale is the designated arrestee in any engagement between the OPP and the MDS. OPP is taking rocks and bottles in the backs of their heads, because they are facing -away- from the MDS gang and toward the dangerous over 50 years old fat guy Garry McHale and his five or six over 50 fat guy friends with their dangerous Canadian flag. (No stick mind you, just a flag. Could choke somebody with that, right? Wrap it around a pound of butter and its a deadly-ish weapon!)
If (when) something untoward (theft, beating, shooting, car stripping, general melee of drunken @ssholes beating the crap out of each other, enormous house fire…) happens on the Douglas Creek Estates and McHale isn’t there, the OPP might go over to his house and arrest him.
More evidence, anybody remember the Oka Crisis? The army didn’t get called out because a Quebec Provincial Police guy got shot. They got called out because the “protesters” were interfering with a golf course which belonged to Someone Important. A very little research will reveal who that was.
Given all of the above, I reiterate my conclusion that the affair would be concluded within seven (7) days of the first rocket falling in Toronto, and would likely include tanks and air strikes. Five of the seven days would be spent getting men an equipment rushed in from all over the place.
Canada is run exclusively for the benefit of Certain People. If you get in their business they will take you out.
Disclaimer for any retards/government apparatchiks/race hate mongers reading this:
    A) Yes, I know that the Mohawk Drinking Society does not represent Indians at large, nor the Six Nations Reserve, at all. Yes, I know most Indians do not support the MDS and their violence. No, I do not blame normal Indians for the MDS and their cr@p.
    B) No, I am not making any accusation of improper conduct on the part of any police agency. The public record is clear enough on that and stands on its own. As do all the lawsuits Garry McHale has won against the OPP. This is a thought experiment and a speculation, which is different from Real Life(tm).
    C) The mere fact that I would even think about making such a disclaimer says all that needs saying about the pack of dangerous @ssholes infesting this province in positions of power. May you all develop boils.
    D) Please note the entire lack of specificity or names. There is no such thing as a Mohawk Drinking Society. I made it up. Enjoy the boils.
Finally I’d like to say that anybody who still supports the Palestinian Cause at this stage is both a dangerous, hateful imbecile and a liar. Because not one of them would put up with the Israeli situation here in Canada for a millisecond.
Here endeth the Thought Experiment. [//rant/snarl/snap/spit//]

  13. Your views of the left are becoming dated Robert. Strip away accountability and reason from your perception and you will begin to understand where the left is at these days. And I mean that with all due respect. Not trying to flame, just a helpful hint.

  14. Natives are the wrong analogy. Imagine instead if Quebec started firing 3000 rockets annually across their borders from the cover of local schools and churches, rockets sent and paid for by the same thinking that supports Palestinian terrorists. Then consider Canada’s vapid appeasement policy response for the next hundred or more years.

  15. Israelis surely realize the consequences of occupying the land of, and burning the women and children to death of, a maniacal people who hold grudges for a thousand years.
Perpetual terror is just the “cost of doing business”, or in this case, cost of occupying Palestine.

  16. But Quebec, hanson, has no rockets to fire. Perhaps a few hundred smelly cheeses could be ignited, but I would guess that they might accidentally leave the Earth’s orbit.

  17. Doug and Phantom. You forgot:
Julian ‘Chief Shaking Rabbit’ Fantino and Dildo ‘Two Dogs Humping’ McDinky engineer a rapid reaction force that launches a counterattack from the rear – in canoes via Cape Horn.

  18. Just another strip of desert. Look at the aerial photos showing Gaza vs Israel. Slums on one side and gardens on the other.
Heh, over $3 billion a year plus billions more in forgivable loans from the US makes a difference.
You would do pretty good too if someone gave you more than $100 billion.

  19. redneek24 >
70% of the Jews voted for Obama. If they don’t care, why should I?
    I’m with you on that!
I’d rather have Israel as a global friend than any Arab nation having spent nearly two decades living in a variety of Arab countries. That said I don’t want to see anyone die or get wiped out, but at the end of the day f*ck em all.
Survival of the fittest baby, so far we are the only ones losing their cold war. Piss on them all, we need deportations from the west and to close our doors to ALL middle eastern/ North African immigration, refugee or otherwise.
Israel has more than enough capability to take care of itself, if left to their own devices they will either make peace or wipe each other out. I could care less what they decide so long as they leave us out of it.
If desired, one could simply promise that if the Arabs “wipe our Israel” we will nuke them out of existence, and mean it; they won’t bother if they actually believed us.

  20. @stradivarius: I think you’re forgetting how much money gets pumped into the Palestinian cause by various Arab friends. What you see in the prosperity of Israel is not simply western money; what you see is a world view in action.

  21. I like the concept that the Israelis are fighting back in the propaganda war against it with ads like this. The oil and gas industry needs to be doing the same thing to wake people up from their “green” slumber. I have always thought the best way for the oil and gas industry to make its point would be to shut down all pipelines for a week in the middle of January so people can get a hint of how their very existence depends on the energy.

  22. Israel has more than enough capability to take care of itself, if left to their own devices they will either make peace or wipe each other out. I could care less what they decide so long as they leave us out of it.
Exactly, and they can’t be trusted.
    http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RL33222.pdf
In the late 1990s, the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) reported that China had acquired U.S. technology “through Israel in the form of the Lavi fighter and possibly SAM [surface-to-air missile]
    technology,”
    As of 2005, Israel was
reportedly China’s second major arms supplier, after Russia

  23. What you see in the prosperity of Israel is not simply western money; what you see is a world view in action.
Heh, Israel is a socialist country. See any other socialist countries doing well?

  24. Leftists would absolutely support the natives in such a case. Many leftists would no doubt JOIN the natives, just as many hard leftists are tacit supporters of al Qaeda.

  25. the best way for the oil and gas industry to make its point would be to shut down all pipelines for a week in the middle of January so people can get a hint of how their very existence depends on the energy
And also mention that they are doing it for the environment. Dr Suzuki and Al Gore would surely agree to this step.

  26. Israel is under attack by a group of blood lusting savage anti-Semites called Hamas. A small band of degenerate murdering xnophobes who use human shields and hide in civilian populations as they murder Israeli jews. They kill innocent Israeli civilians in terror attacks, not military targets. Israel responds in a very surgical way by taking out only Hamas targets and humanely avoiding civilian collateral casualty – this is the fact of the Gaza conflict, but the zombie lefts political dyslexia calls the victim the aggressor and the aggressor the victim – there is no cure for zombie left dyslexia, it kills the human mind dead – but we do not have to regard the burbling from these walking dead left as legitimate political opinion.

  27. “Heh, Israel is a socialist country.”
How so? They have a conservative/right-wing coalition government currently.
By that standard Canada is a “socialist country” that is doing fairly well.
There are socialists all over the world (more in Israel than here perhaps) but they aren’t always in power everywhere.

  28. In regard to the proposed thought experiment, I would imagine that Canadian progressives would consult with native “freedom fighters” to ensure that their rockets were aimed only at Conservative ridings and not at their homes. Once that was accomplished, they could take the moral high ground and declare sympathy and support.
The situation between Israel and the Palestinians is somewhat similar to your thought experiment, but with the added detail of the existence of a religious foundation to the claim to the land by each side. We also have that in play in North America to some extent, but we can’t really point to a specific passage in Ezekiel that gives Toronto, Calgary and Winnipeg to the tribes of Europe (as an analogy). The native people of course claim an eternal stewardship of the land from the Creator. This can actually form a basis for co-existence if it is finessed to mean that within the context of a multicultural society that grants certain native rights, they have the role of being stewards of the land. I think this is how it actually plays out in the less confrontational aspects of modern Canadian relations between the groups.
What few people are willing to say is that the widespread progressive-liberal attitude to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is actually in technical, legal terms, a form of treason since Canada has declared Hamas to be a terrorist organization. If NATO were to become embroiled in a regional war, this would become more urgent but one could predict that our government would, for political reasons rather than legal, stop far short of prosecuting anyone for treason, after all the first into the dock would be most of the opposition, the media, the leadership of the United Church, Muslim leaders, even the odd useful idiot liberal Jew. The whole thing would be both a farce and an open declaration of cultural civil war. In other words, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict brought home to Canada.

  29. Thought Experiment: Imagine your community in Canada periodically had rockets fired at it by people on Native Reserves, claiming that they were oppressed and their land had been stolen. In the aftermath of the destruction of people and property, do you think the same folks on the Left would continue to be as tolerant and understanding of those wreaking the havoc? Or would their views “miraculously” change faster than one could utter the words “complete hypocrites”?!
As noted above….Caledonia.Mind you,it is so tolerant of Kate that she lets a leftie like Robert post actual “articles” here.

  30. Robert’s thought experiment is not so far fetched. I just checked, and Jerusalem is roughly the same distance from Gaza as Toronto is from Oshweken, ~100 klicks, call it 60 miles. Hamas just dumped an Iranian Fajr-5 missile on Jerusalem. That’s a flying telephone pole usually launched off the back of a truck.
Not saying anybody -would- do that here, but its physically possible.
Israel is now getting set to roll over Gaza like a truck running over a chicken, because as in Robert’s thought experiment, the bad guys finally landed one where the Important People live instead of out in the boondock towns nobody cares about.
    Same exact deal.

  31. Just saw a pro-Palestinian protest in downtown Ottawa. Then one of their supporters tried to hand me a slick flyer which I refused to take, stating I didn’t agree with their position. This fellow was very polite but had an incredulous look on his face, he couldn’t believe that I wasn’t on his side of the issue. When he asked why I didn’t support his position I stated I can’t support any group that stands for the eradication of the Israeli state and by extension, its people.
Amazingly he asked me where I had heard that and who had ever said such a thing, I answered “who hasn’t?” Then he probed further asking for specific details, to which I stated that information was freely available but added that “every Arab state” has taken the position of the eradication of Israel. He looked me in the eye and with a straight face “oh that’s just propaganda.”
I couldn’t help myself at that point and laughed as my wife pulled me away. While they were protesting peacefully and not bothering anyone, including me when I took picures (just for the tourist experience) I have to wonder how brainwashed he was, or perhaps his brain was waterlogged from drinking all that Kool-Aid.
Again, very polite fellow whom I would loved to get into further discussion with, just to explore his mindset if nothing else, but my wife didn’t want any part of this, so the conversation ended.

  32. The scary part is that attacks from native reserves would not change the left’s stance, just refocus it locally.

  33. Were the rockets landing in the Annex, Cabbagetown, or any
other similar areas full of highly paid leftists on the public teat?
If so, I am having trouble understanding the exact problem.
    .

  34. “Heh, Israel is a socialist country.”
How so? They have a conservative/right-wing coalition government currently.

For one thing, they’ve taken welfare for years. To the tune of over $100 billion. Before that, welfare from France.
The new fighter jets, the F35 are being given to them via FMF grants. Oh, and to top it all off, there is a reciprocity agreement that obligates the US to purchase Israeli defense equipment valued at $4 billion.
No wonder they all vote for the Zero, bigger and better Bamaphones…

  35. Shamrock, good on you to stand your ground and publicly disagree with that fellow. The fact that he doesn’t know the official stances of all of Israeli’s Muslim neighbours (except perhaps for Jordan) gives an entirely enhanced meaning to the term, “Useful Idiots”.

  36. “Do you think the same folks on the Left would continue to be as tolerant and understanding of those wreaking the havoc?”
    Yes. Absolutely.
I agree with LAS’s 1:29 comment (guess my watch must have stopped) that their stance wouldn’t change. In searching for a solution to the rocket attacks they would focus on the “oppressor” — the colonialist whiteys, in this case — and would argue that historic and current injustice drove/compelled the aboriginals to fight back and take such extreme action, and that reparations are the way to resolve the conflict.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is misreading the consistent, monolithic intractability of the leftist mindset. I mean, did you ever notice that anyone — whether it’s insane enviro-moonies or stinky/violent Occupy protesters — who takes aggressive action against “da man” always, but always, has the support – even if just tacit, or excuse-making support – of the left?

  37. One big plus to all this Israel/Gaza business is we get to see much more of Faith Goldy-Bazos. Zowie. Though she really does need to lay off the red bull.

  38. Mel Phillips does a great job of deconstructing the British media and their strange obsession with the numbers killed. Essentially, the leftards are in a lather because the Israelis are better shots.

  39. Occam wrote:
“Israel is under attack by a group of blood lusting savage anti-Semites called Hamas.”
Israelis understand that they have to pay the price for burning Palestinian women and children alive.
And they’ll be paying that price for at least another 1,000 years.

  40. @Dystopian Optimist:
I understand you might be a troll, but in case you are just misinformed… When exactly did Israeli burned Palestinian women and children alive? In Hebron maybe? Oh, wait that was Palestinians….

  41. Dystopian Optimist 4:26
This comment makes a lot more sense when ‘Israelis’ is understood as code for ‘Jews’.

  42. The term anti semitic is most often applied to Jews. Properly speaking, the Jews and the Palestinians (and all Arabs) are semitic peoples. This is more than just a linguistic relationship. It is an actual genetic relationship. And by the way, orthodox Jews are just as religiously fanatic as the moslems. Semitic peoples seem to be a plague everywhere they go. We should be very glad that the Romans destroyed Carthage and sewed the ground where it stood with salt. Having said that, I much prefer the Jews to the Arabs (Palestinians).

  43. I actually welcome a conventional war in the ME. Islamists are no damned good at conventional warfare, and there is almost zero chance of Israel losing such a war, given that what’s left of Arab militaries after decades of Islamisation is a collection of camel-shagging, sister-smacking goatherds, rather than the semi-professional Egyptian military of the 1970’s!
I think Israel should goad Egypt into thinking now is the time to pour Egyptian troops into Gaza. What a great opportunity to finally clear the air once and for all!

  44. Whatever happened to the time honored tradition of cheering for the little underdog ?. 7 million Israelies bordered by 125 million Arabs . With the cause of the day being bullying and the social engineers going nuts in implementing strategies to fight this scourge , shouldn’t we be gathering a army of co-parenting teachers and administrators led by Libby Davis to put the Arabs in their place? Can the left not see the hypocrisy in their condemnation of Israel while throwing their full support behind the bullies ? Everyone in Hollywood claims to be Jewish. Where are they in this fight ? We know (from watching the CBC/CTV) that bullying is the most serious problem in the free world today and yet no one steps forward to help the underdog being bullied. I can only conclude that the left hates those that are successful with a mind of their own and stand by their values, and only supports losers such as themselves and seventh century camel herders. Hypocrites. I picked Libby Davis because she represents everything the left stands for.

  45. Have been using the google news feature to get daily updates on what is going on and the comments at most of the news sites are pathetic. Left a comment at the ctvnews site which I’ll be interested to see if it gets published.
Most rational people move somewhere else when they’ve been militarily defeated; the existence of 5th and 6th generation “refugees” is simply absurd. All the Palestinians have to do to get Israel to stop is to stop firing rockets into Israel. It would also help if they didn’t train their children from birth to be future suicide bombers. That is the greatest perversion taking place in the middle east. Israel has a right to self-defense and has been surprisingly restrained in how it has responded. Perhaps that is the problem as I suspect if the Syrian or Iranian armies were instead involved with a conflict with the Gaza Strip, there would be very few survivors at the end of the battle.

  46. peterj “Whatever happened to the time honored tradition of cheering for the little underdog?”
There is a kind of blind, unreasoning dislike and even hatred of the Jews that is at work again today as it was prior to WW2. God knows the Jews are as imperfect in their own way as us non-Jews but that is no legitimate reason for the current attitude among leftists and even some rightists. I’m sure it’s complicated and each hater has his own reason, but in the end it’s bigotry.
For example, from the comments to this post:
“they (the Jews) can’t be trusted”
And “they’ve taken welfare for years” (referring to the military aid that has kept them from being overrun and exterminated by their Muslim neighbors.)
The phenomenon of their fellow human beings despising the Jews is somewhat mysterious to me as well, but it’s real.
