The press throughout the western world is preoccupied of late – engaged in an existential convulsion that threatens to cast down the foundations of some of its greatest and most august institutions. They’re losing money, and they’re firmly convinced that it must be because of some new technological advance that is irresistibly and irrevocably changing human behaviour: it’s the Internet; it’s blogs; it’s Twitter; it’s tablets and smart phones.
As though the difference between shit and sunshine is the speed at which it travels.

A good article. Indeed, people have been listening to newscasts on radio since the 30s.
I can hear a range of opinion, mostly negative about PMSH, mostly positive about Tsar Obama, just by wandering down to the local bar (it’s called Ben’s, BTW) and passing a couple of hours.
True, I would spend money there, but it would be on beer or whiskey or gin. Why should I pay a dollar or so for the same nonsense in a newspaper or “news” magazine?
Most people here buy the local newspaper – ah rag, for its extensive advertisements. It is so biased that it would even embarrass the New York Times.
People will pay money for NEWS. They will pay NOTHING for barroom ravings.
Anyone else notice that we know more about Gen. Peteraus emails than we do about what he did to/ for our ambassador.
Thinking I need to buy a paper.
Hope this kindle doesn’t post twice.
Now, when the MSM networks are sinking in value, is the time for the Republican moneymen (Rove, Adelman, Koch bros., etc.) to put together a syndicate to puchase one of CBS, NBC or ABC. While the networks’ relevance is sinking, they are still a formidable force in shaping public opinion. FoxNews, the blogs and talk radio have done a lot to add other views to the mix, but a mainstream network is essential to combat the one-sided worldview that seeps into the mindset of the average US citizen. I’m sure everyone else is sick of hearing about the MSM bias, but instead of paying billions of dollars to the networks in advertising every two years, only to be undermined by the “news” and editorial content, they should invest their money where it will do some good in the long run.
I really do not know whether to laugh or cry.Throw another log on the fire,I guess.
When I first discovered all the news for free online I was like a kid in a candy store.
In the olden days we could read the NYT if we went downtown to Dominion News and bought the week old edition of their Saturday paper.
After a while I began to suss out the editorial slant and began a process of weeding out those who were consistently biased against, well, me.
I’m now down to a few steady conservative sites that tell the truth.
The rest can wither away as they certainly lie each and every day.
OK, so the news papers lie, that’s not news, that’s old. I remember 45 yrs ago a (j)urnalist interviews use young punks about poleece harasment, when the article came out we were flabergast at the slant, it was beyound our wildest dreams. But me thinks there is more to this, I think that the consumers “demand” this lying twist, it’s just that the papers now depend largely on the lefties for their survival, and we know all about lefties, they want free stuff, and the papers want to sell their birdcage liner!!
A great article. People now have a choice for news sources and do not have to purchase the biased trip that passes as news. Never mind the editorial pages, even the lead articles are biased. Any three credit course in propaganda teaches you to look for key phrases that quickly indicate the obvious.
The Globe and Mail would be an excellent purchase, not for its content, but if its pages were perforated in four inch squares. Apologies to Margaret Wente.
I was able to buy a Wall Street Journal on both the outgoing and incoming legs of a recent trip to Europe.
dance, keep pushing MTS, but you might have to move to Shaw.
It’s not just the press. All the MSM are selling an entertainment product to a targeted audience who their advertisers think will want to buy their products.
No one should assume that the propaganda on your big TV screen is the whole truth and nothing but the truth; it’s far from that. If you want the facts then you have to look at wide variety of sources across the political spectrum and winnow out the nuggets of truth from all the propaganda fluff.
Most sheeple want their ‘news’ pre-digested and parroting their preconceived notions. They don’t want the truth; they can’t handle the truth.
Economy: Post-Election Firings and Layoffs Surge
November 10th, 2012
The victory by Barack Obama on election night has resulted in a huge wave of firings and layoffs all over America. A large number of businesses seem to have suddenly shifted into panic mode. The number of layoff announcements that we have seen in the last 48 hours has been absolutely shocking. So why is this happening? Well, the truth is that the federal government is absolutely suffocating small businesses all over America with rules, regulations and taxes.

From the blog….“The press ought to be screaming bloody murder. They ought to be affronted at the insult that has been offered them with this glib, tenuous, convoluted, and incoherent explanation for what looks like a gross abuse of power. They are either very, very stupid and credulous, or else they are complicit in this abuse.”
Of course for the mass media, the flaw is that the president is a Democrat (socialist in real life).
Baghdad Bob had more integrity than the mSM. They have lied so many times, treated its reading public like Morons. Than , yes committed treason now, to cry wolf for a bankrupt President.
These are not just mistakes anymore. There criminal acts by a propaganda machine that values nothing but its Ideology at the cost of anything. There not Businesses but Government hired hands. Truth is the last thing they value.
Yet they wonder why most people are abandoning their screed’s dishonesty? Having become so rotted with corruption they can’t even see it in themselves anymore. Least of all a lying press has on a Nation.
A lot of, “no truer words were ever spoken”, in that article. While the article is clearly pointing an accusatory finger at the big American media remember that we’ve had numerous examples of this attitude in Canada.
As their financial viability becomes more and more tenuous, the leftstream media will be lining up at the government trough for subsidies. And they will get them. “We are all CBC now”.
yeah well…

“Now, when the MSM networks are sinking in value, is the time for the Republican moneymen (Rove, Adelman, Koch bros., etc.) to put together a syndicate to purchase one of CBS, NBC or ABC.”
Rove’s not a moneyman, he’s a money-waster. Aside from that, good idea. It’d also be a hell of an idea here in Canada. Everything possible needs to be done to assure the existence and availability of alternative media. One example … Sun News Network needs to be put on basic cable asap. Make it happen, Conservatives.
cj,you say that Rove is a money waster, where did you get your info and who do you compare him to.Obama has wasted more money in his term in office than anyone before him in history but do you read of that fact any where in the msm? No,they treat him as a mesiah and far from asking him to curb the national debt, they tell him he has’nt borrowed enough!
Spike, Karl Rove doesn’t waste tax money these days, he wastes political contribution money.
This election proved that the MSM is still king of the hill. Internet hasn’t changed much.
LAS, it’s looking an lot like Obozo’s re-election was a consequence of massive electoral fraud. The role of the MSM in this has been to just present the statist line and ignore anything which contradicts it.
I’ve always wondered how people in totalitarian countries could believe the obvious lies printed in the press, but it looks like the gullibility of the population has no bounds.
Well, Loki, I don’t lightly disagree with a doctor, still less with a doctor who’s a big mean bugger, but as I’ve remarked elsewhere, this election was not won by massive vote fraud. It was lost because too many Republicans were just too damn smart to go vote for Romney.
