Y2Kyoto: The Fix Is In

Funding from "impoverished" Old Massett First Nations - $2.5 million.

Volume of iron strewn over the ocean - 120 tonnes

Current benchmark iron ore price - $105.75 a tonne

Multiplying 120 x 105.75....priceless.

Update! It gets better.

Oh come on, it was Iron Sulphate, not iron; then there was the boat, diesel fuel for said baot, mooring feess, sea legging and waterproof hat, wear and tear on boots, etc. etc. oh and that nice little secretary doesn't come cheap.

Yeah....iron sulphate (top grade) is anywhere from $60 to $350 per tonne. Looks like the greenies always recognize a good scam when they see one.

70% unemployment, but can draw 2.5 mill from...petty cash?, for jjunk science, And still claim to be impovrished. Is that how that reads, its a little early for me yet

It must really hurt Margaret Munro to have to write a story exposing the Glowball Warming scam.

She's been pumping out Eco fear mongering stories for years about global warming.

Too bad because she used to be a good science writer. Her earlier stuff on the space program was very good.

Guess she just started chugging the Greenie Kool Aide and went off the rails.

" Old Massett,... hopes to recover some of its $2.5-million investment through selling carbon credits for removing carbon from the atmosphere and locking it into the sea."

Huh,what???

Oh,I see,they have proof of something,sort of,kind of ,well maybe ...

" "The waters of the Haida eddy have turned from clear blue and sparse of life into a verdant emerald sea lush with the growth of a hundred million tonnes of plankton and the entire food chain it supports,"

The MSM seems to have a problem spelling "Queen Charlotte Islands".

So isn't sailing out into international waters, and dumping tonnes of potentially-toxic chemicals into the water a form of piracy?

What would happen if I declared myself a "defender of the environment" and sailed out there and sank his vessel to prevent further such spills?

You'd be racist/colonialist. Native Indians are still higher up on the political hierarchy than greenies.

George's California company, Planktos Corp., backed by Vancouver financier Nelson Skalbania:

I haven’t heard of Nelson Skalbania for years.

ES "I haven’t heard of Nelson Skalbania for years."

Have his creditors?

" which scattered 120 tonnes of iron in waters "

" the growth of a hundred million tonnes of plankton "

I know that math is hard, really, really hard,so I used a pen and napkin to work this out.I may be wrong but the Old Massett band has figured that each pound of iron dropped into the ocean has resulted in the growth of 8.3 million pounds of plankton.

If they're right and I have no reason to doubt them, because natives are always right, iron sulphate is the answer to world hunger,or possibly the most destructive weapon of mass destruction ever made.

We could end up with more fish that we know what to do with and we solve the co2 problem at the same time.Unbelievable wagonburners with a good idea

it's getting to the point were too much money and not enough brains could cause one h3ll of a big problem!!!!

This story gets better.

It wasn't iron sulphate that was dumped;

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that iron sulphate was used in the dump. In fact, project leader John Disney said a finely ground dirt-like substance with trace amounts of iron was used.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/10/15/bc-iron-sulfate-dumping-haida-gwaii.html

Or in layman's terms, sand mixed with a little iron and probably something else that would allow the spread to be tracked.

Also,the stuff was dumped outside the international 200 mile limit but;
He also said the Old Massett village council claims aboriginal title beyond Canada's 200-mile territorial limit.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/10/19/bc-ocean-fertilization-haida.html

Funny how algae blooms that occur naturally consume the oxygen in the water and kill all the fish but when aboriginals cause a bloom, it feeds the fish.

2 or 3 truck loads of dirt costs $2 or 3 million.

No. 1 - I want in on this.
No. 2 - If I can't get in on this somebody should follow the money trail. Somebody is getting hosed.

The report speaks of "a former Fisheries and Oceans Canada scientist who has spent years working on international efforts to better protect the global atmosphere and oceans."
Apart from Canadian jurisdiction ending 200 miles offshore, we are speaking of the agency which stood idly by while the East Coast cod stocks were wiped out.

And who regularly sent armed thugs to board fishing boats off the West Coast.

And whose budget is said to exceed the entire value of the landed catch in Canada.

This whole affair screams 'swindle'.

The questionable 'science' behind the project.
The iron sulphate that wasn't iron sulphate.
The chief's impossible claim of 'a hundred million tonnes' of fish food.
The improbable 'carbon credits' scheme to recoup the $2.5 million.

But most of all,as John Lewis wrote above " Canadian jurisdiction ending 200 miles offshore "

I wonder if the deal was signed and the money exchanged out there also.
Someone should take a look at that chief's bank account.

Monorail....monorail....monorail....monorail

Atlas shrugged again

"Ok, you got us last time with that firewater and those firesticks! $24 and a string of lousy beads? I mean, come on! Manhattan? Crimey!"

Now the shoe's on the other foot. We have a live one here! Boo-yeah!

And they have the nerve to bitch and complain about fish farming? As said by others, this will not end well. Mother Nature has a habit of making idiots pay a monstrous price for meddling. If you do something that is visible from space, you know you've gone waaay too far..

For greenies who are worried about environmental damage - Chill! Victoria dumps 1,000 times that much sewage every day into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with minimal effect. The whole project has the look of some kind of financial scam. The reported results are simply inconceivable. Ocean currents would dilute the concentration of dirt to unmeasurable amounts within minutes, possibly hours. Follow the money.
