they sure do like to contraDICK themselves, as their supply ship is stuck because of too much ice!!!!

My favorite part was the last sentence: "Despite the melting runway, an Australian supply ship, the Aurora Australis, is currently stuck in Antarctica because there is too much ice."

Bwaha!

The Oz climate commies have a control agenda based in climate fraud to protect. They have their media toadies alarm the public every time there is a warm day. Oz is comedy central these days watching its control freak government hold back the waves of truth flowing over the AGW barracades. They are shutting down free speech and replacing it with govrnment approved speech - the nation is lost to progressive left despotism.

Climate and weather are not static but rather dynamic and as a result can and do change. Global warming is a misnomer in that a general warming trend somewhere cannot be extrapolated globally.

If Dr Fruit fly and their ilk can predict such a dire future, you would think they could have told us about the quake in the Queen Charlotte Islands. As the Italians would say, "Getta your ass to jail."

Damn those model T cars! Algores grandfather was right! Horses and bayonets!

I wish Canada was included in this, yet I am quite sure that it would be the 1930's as well for record temps.

I think it was on SDA that a post stated that it has been cooling for the past 16 years.

And our Canadian Government still supports this lie [even with all the proof] ... I dare any politician to bring this latest fact up before Christmas in Paralament. Will never happen, for at least ten to twenty years, because the Canadian Government fear Dr, Fruitfly and enviroMENTALists - sad.

And CC and her Fiberals re-affirmed their love of the fraud, keeping the carbon tax.

Any chance that airhead had of re-energizing the coalition, vanished with that bit of short-sighted policy. The carbon tax has been an unmitigated fraud. It has not discouraged gas/diesel use, turns out now that the tax goes into general revenue, and is not entirely dedicated to 'carbon credits' (via their pals at Enbridge [planting trees, of course]), thanks to Mike DeJong's confirmation.

Now they 'can't afford' to drop the tax. This from a government, that at one time, long long ago, in a galaxy far away......advocated tax cuts and government cuts. Hypocrites all of them. NDP lite is all they are.

"because the Canadian Government fear Dr, Fruitfly and enviroMENTALists - sad."

Maybe they do,CP, but they fear the loss of all that lovely carbon-related tax money way more.

Follow the money.(Was that Shakespeare?) ;-)

hmm... is that on the peninsula, or on Antarctica proper? If it's in the marginally habitable zone, then 20 aircraft a year (if they reached that level) would add a lot of heat and combustion by-products to the surrounding surface, changing the albedo.

If they don't recognize the local versus macro issues, they'll never resolve what's really happening.

That story about the runway at Wilkins runway is full of holes.

The original story came out in January and they have regurgitated again it now, and many other newspapers have carried it without checking the facts. What’s new?

Some background: To make a runway for a large aircraft on wheels (not ski equipped) in the Antarctic they sometimes use what is called a blue ice runway. It is an area of ice that is keep free of snow by sublimation and by katabatic winds, often at hurricane force, coming off a plateau, and/or over a mountain.

Katabatic winds go by different names in different parts of the world. In Western Canada & USA along the Rockies it is called a Chinook, which translates to snow eater. The bottom line is that they are warm winds, which is usually not a problem in the Antarctic.

The way the Australians built the Wilkins runway was to shave the ice level, using lasers. However, if left in this condition the ice gets small potholes, like dimples on a golf ball, only larger. To overcome this problem they covered the ice with a layer of packed snow. During the month of January, which is the warmest month, the snow gets soft and it can be a problem for the A319 that they use, because it leaves ruts. In other months (November, December and February) the runway is OK, and it is used for a variety of other ski equipped aircraft for the whole season.

The Americans also have a snow covered strip near their McMurdo base, that they can only use from this time of year until December for aircraft on wheels. After that they use it as a ski strip.

The story then go on about the Antarctic peninsula warming. The peninsula is about 18,000 km from the Australian base.

"Maybe they do,CP, but they fear the loss of all that lovely carbon-related t tax money way more." dmorris @1:49

There is NO tax on carbon by the Federal Government - they have one in BC by prov. govt., which is why their gasoline is ten cents more.

Yet the Canadian Government gives millions to support this lie. Example: during the last Commonwealth meeting, the Canadian Government gave millions to help those who would be faced with raising water levels ... so far it is about one inch in two hundred years, if that. This governmment will do almost anything to look good for enviroMENTALists on the world stage.Following the money going out of Canada to fund such projects is telling Canadians that they support Global Warming/Climate Change.

Fighting pollution, and spending money on that, is a different story which I support.

My grandfather has told me stories of how hot things were in 1936 and 1937. Never doubted him for a moment

And, ES, the Antarctic Peninsula technically isn't even inside the Antarctic Circle.

Anything to keep the carbon scam going. The opportunity to tax absolutely nothing does not come around too often.

“And, ES, the Antarctic Peninsula technically isn't even inside the Antarctic Circle.”

The Antarctic Circle goes through the Peninsula with slightly more inside than outside the circle. But, it is not the Antarctic Circle that determines what area the Antarctic contains.

It is the Antarctic Treaty that determines what is included. It states that everything south of 60 degrees latitude to the South Pole is part of the treaty. This includes the South Orkney Islands, the South Shetland Islands, and the Antarctic Peninsula.
