For those put off by the posts today about Obama, Benghazi, and the fallout, I should explain.
I'm former military, Navy. (Senior Service!) It gave me a direction that I never had growing up (through no fault of my parents). My Master Corporal in Basic likened it to, "We do in 10 weeks, what your parents wouldn't do in 20 years." You know what? He was right.
The aforementioned folks saved my week four letter that basically whines, "I wish I hadn't done this! I want to be back working at McDonalds!"
I went in at 156lbs and came out 175. I swear I grew 2 inches. Friends who knew me less than six months earlier asked, "When did you get shoulders?"
After graduation, I was all, "Yes, sir. Yes, ma'am." when talking to civilians. It was a discovery of respect. Respect for myself. Respect for others. Respect for the chain of command.
I knew I didn't know as much as my superiors, therefore I learned to trust them because the training gave me no other option. I had to depend on them to know what the heck they were doing or the whole thing broke down. A military outfit does not want the "whole thing broke down".
The revelations today about Benghazi are devastating to people like me because it means that the whole thing broke down. It means that those in command didn't know what to do. It means that they lost control, or worse, deemed the lives of those people less important than the political ramifications.
This is not and can not be acceptable. There is no justification for ambivalence or inaction when the capabilities to respond are at hand. There is no intelligence valuable enough to sacrifice people involuntarily.
President Obama failed his SecStates 3am test and people died.
I hope that Americans don't fail in their duty. They need to send a message to their gov't, their military and the world that this day of self-inflicted infamy won't happen again.
The Western World the Greeks gave us requires a strong US.

Thank you for sharing those very profound words, Lance. Frankly, anyone who is "put off" by too much talk about the Benghazi murders isn't a very serious person and shouldn't be wasting the time of everyone else here on SDA who is.
"The revelations today about Benghazi are devastating to people like me because it means that the whole thing broke down. It means that those in command didn't know what to do. It means that they lost control, or worse, deemed the lives of those people less important than the political ramifications."
I watched a US Army Colonel on Fox say much the same and it was almost too much for him to even think about it. But I don't think this is an indication of anything more than a commander in chief who decided to let those folks die so he could get re-elected. Nothing more than that. It will likely come out that the order to stand down came right from the very top. The 2 seals that died were likely disobeying direct orders to stand down. They went anyway, being the fine men that they were. God rest their souls.
Judging from your comments Lance, I assume you found Romeo D'Allaire's actions in Rwanda damnable and contemptible rather than praiseworthy. I certainly do.
Gord, I do. Without knowing the man, I also believe that given his attempts at suicide, I believe he does also.
Quite frankly, I don't think people are talking about it enough. I don't think they are angry enough. I think there is such a logical disconnect with most people and what SHOULD make them angry that it boggles the mind. When a government makes a mistake, it makes a mistake. When it lies (and who really knows what for with all the lies flying about), there should be such outrage that people cannot stand to be still.
The government deliberately failed four Americans but American voters will have failed themselves if they don't get rid of Obama in November.
Thank you for your service Lance.
&
The silence is deafening... "deemed the lives of those people less important than the political ramifications." should be the final nail in this Presidency.
Obama, coward.
@Lance
I often state my age when commenting on sda because I feel that my superiors such as yourself feel like there is a few lost generations .
I want you to know that this bothers me greatly I am 34 years old male born in the generation of liberalism.
I reject all of it I am so honoured to have a place to go to pay my respects for the fallen heros on November 11 every year year in and year out I make DARN sure my daughter understands EXACTLY what we are doing at the Kurry baraks every November 11 , and why!!!
To see this travesty unravelling before my eyes is quit frankly frightening and appalling !
I thought barak Obama was a good man but just caught up in leftist drivel .....but this......this is no longer political this is the face of evil not just barak but every single person involved in the u.s. government , to the terrorists and every incompetent moron in between the lack of regard for civility can be explained by the religion of piss , but the u.s. military , Hilary Clinton, defence secretary, president , Vice President , and the talking heads , the media, so on and so forth .
I feel for my elders in this day and age of hopelessness from occupy , to Benghazi .....all the blood spilled to fight socialism , communism,Marxism, and make no mistake those are just different names for evil .
I want you to know that there is hope people like me have conversation heated conversation with family members , co workers, friends , and the likes .
I don't want you to think your service and sacrifice for this country is in vain I SEE, I KNOW, I GET IT!
Please friend do not underestimate the passion of the youth of this country , the media shows you only a small but vocal minority . THEY ARE NOT THE MAJORITY!!!
Guys like me are !!!
Peace!! I can dream can't I!!
Osumashi, you are very correct, there is a big disconnect with most people.
We had the same thing happen in Vietnam, look at the all the vets who came back mentally deranged because they couldn't do what they were trained to do, win wars.
I see the same thing happening here again. We thought Afghanistan would be a Vietnam, but I think the whole ME is one Vietnam.
Those Islamic folks only understand AK-47 language.
Without being logged into a google account, I cleared browser cache, went to the U.S edition of google news and opened the election section. In the default view there were a total of 26 stories, none about Benghazi.
Journalists need to swing from lamp posts.
"failed four Americans"?
They watched their murders in real time like a snuff flick with the full capability to stop it at any time.
Failed and lied is understating things a little.
Did pretty much the same for me, but I went in at 175 and came out at 148.
Infantry does that for you.
Wonderful post Lance.
I was not military but I did 30 days at Outward Bound as a teenager under a British Military Colonel. That was 43 years ago, long before anyone could whine and the Colonel would be sued, if for nothing else being bloody tough.
Changed my life.
Thank you for your post. Thank you for your insight.
Thank you for your service Lance.
Never explain, those who don't understand are beyond redemption.
Thank you for your service to our magnificent country.
Obama (spit).
Lance,
With all due respect, and I mean that in no demeaning or patronizing way at all, you are attempting to explain the obvious to the heart-broken: everyone in your audience knows why Benghazi matters (could we ask for a private showing of Clear and Present Danger, with Harrison Ford in the role of Jack Ryan).
Everyone who loves America, which I do, knows that America is better than any of this bilge. And AO, After Obama, America will gradually heal, and pull out of its current miseries.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have, for better or worse, positioned themselves as the healers. I'm pretty sure that we need to support them -- this time at least.
The Western World the Greeks gave us requires a strong US.
Yes.
Additionally it's time Canada stood up and became more independently strong itself.
You're writing good stuff, lance.
Thank you for your service Lance.
Although I never had the privilege of serving Canada, I still have a few friends that have.
They are as outraged as you and the rest of us are over this incident.
Don't retreat on this story,
Reload.
Respectfully
G
I joined the RCAF at 18 and weighing 125 pounds; 20 months later (and 18 days after my 20th birthday) I weighed 157 pounds, was commissioned and wore wings - I didn't have a driver's licence though!
I spent 36 years in uniform, from blues, through greens and back to blues, and I saw good leaders and poor leaders but I never saw such an appalling leader as obama (he doesn't deserve upper case).
Lance.
When the chain of command fails it's subordinates?
It breaks the faith.
That is what Obama et al wants. The strongest link broken.
I know of what I speak. You can't serve in good conscience/put your life on the line when those above you can't be trusted with your life. Even in peacetime when you still do a job that puts you in harm's way.
At least when Turdeau demoralized the CF, he didn't get bodybags filled doing so.
"The Western World the Greeks gave us requires a strong US."
.....and the Western World the Romans and the British gave us.
Why am I thinking of Zimbabwe and Obama's re-election in the same train of thought? If you think things are chaotic now, just wait.
What can you say in the face of this betrayal. Indeed what can you say about a media that covers it up for a Coward.
The American spirit has DIED. I say that with great sorrow. The USA is now under a tyranny of Mobsters, thieves, betrayal at ever corner.
We need a free America. I predicted this in 2007. That the light of liberty would die if Obama was elected. I wish I had been wrong. Completely!!!
http://www.galganov.com/current-editorial/
Go to this link and read Howard Galganov's editorial. It says it all with regard to Obama and Benghazi.
Pro Patria.
I don't understand the shock of this to some people. For me the equation is really quite simple: if liberals or democrats have a say in military matters - stuff like this will invariably result. Leftists hate the military and more than a few hate America too. To them, making your enemies happy WILL make them your friends.
Will we learn the real lessons here? To my mind there are a few:
1. Obviously the current trash in the Oval Office has to be kicked to the curb.
2. Blaming Obama for everything is not enough. We have to set things up so that future dummies like him and Hillary CAN'T place their people in peril ever again. We KNOW the people in some of these countries are murderous, treacherous animals. We KNOW we cannot trust them. Embassies in such countries should carry adequate security as a matter of course - and not just American embassies, ours should too. Token security doesn't cut it.
3. There should be some serious pay back for this, and by that I mean that it is time to give some third world fig farming goat feltchers the jihad they have been yodelling for. Good gravy, how many of US can respect idiots like Hillary and Barkie? And you want to tell me feral moslem mobs will...?
Yeah, I know. I'm a hater/racist/insert-derogatory-liberal-label here.
Sue me.
Not too much Benghazi. So many questions and very few answers. Much is suspected and little is known for certain, at least in the public realm.
However, Obama's words are going to ensnare himself. His oft stated claim is "the minute I knew" he ordered "our people secured"
Simple question . Who was that order made to? Name or department please.
CIA says they ordered no stand down. Military says they had assets available. So Mr president who did you give that border to....simple question.
The answer, if he gives a name will cause squealing and leaking or open truth telling OR Obama will be unable to give a name because he never gave the order.
Given that he doesn't seem to be upset that his order wasn't carried out or more importantly he can't finger someone for the order and throw them under the bus my bet is that his order was not given, he is lying. That needs to be made public.
The more troubling suspicion is that he orderedvthebstand down to prevent a black hawk down or Iranian desert risk. That will take longer to come out.
Flush out the simple...who did you give the order to?

Lance, thank you for your service and your eloquent appraisal of this tragedy. I hope you don't mind but I am going to copy it, paste it, photo it and post it everywhere I have access. It won't get the coverage of SDA, but it will get to be seen by some that wouldn't normally see it. And those are the people that need to see it the most.
Ditto Lance, pretty much the same story, but I was infantry. I have been physically ill over the recent revelations of what happened in Libya, and in Washington. The term I'd use is betrayal of trust, not breakdown.
Great post, Lance, thanks.
MM
thanks Lance
but I disagree with those who think it was a "chain of command" break down. Why was the FBI told to cool their jets for 27 days(????), what neede to be "scrubbed" from those areas. What the h3ll was going on there, it had to be more than just gun running to syria!!!!
Not once does Romney say one word about this.
That is strange, gives the impression that he does not care either.
He should have been on this much earlier, this would be the perfect time to get the voters behind him, yet he is quiet.
I would note that, while the MAIN problem is indeed at the very top, there are subordinates who should have the honor to resign and make the reason for same known. Unfortunately, what we are seeing is that the overwhelming majority of this country's military "leadership" are nothing more than Perfumed Princes and Princesses. So far, General Petraeus, who is NO LONGER in the military, seems to be the only one honorable enough to speak out. JCS? Yeah, right!
It is apparent that THEIR oath of office means as much to this country's senior "military leadership" as it does to this country's "Law Enforcement". I would hope that nobody is stupid enough to be recommending that any of their friends or their children enter the US military...
Clown, Romney has spoken more than once. The reaction by the MSM and debate moderator shows that more advance work needs to be done. It will be very damning to Obama and Hillary (and MSM). I believe this will not be forgotten like Whitewater which had its own fatalities.
Clown Party of Canada, Mitt Romney did ask about it -- I think it was during the second debate. He didn't harp on it, though, and I think he made the right decision.
Every time I heard Oblahblah say "As Commander-in-Chief" in the third debate I wanted to barf. Commander-in-Infamy is more like it.
Thank you, lance, for your service to our country. I have a young friend who's been in the Officer Training course for the past year and a half and it's gruelling -- but he seems to be loving it. I pray for him a lot.
Benghazi and the ensuing Bengazigate is an utterly disgusting display of the Obamanation's narcissism and complete ineptitude as Commander-in-chief and as a decent human being. The man's a slippery, lying, snake who's surrounded himself with thugs and criminals. We need the Romney/Ryan ticket to win, otherwise the whole free world is in deep trouble. We already are.
My heart goes out to the families of the Ambassador, the Navy Seals, and the fourth American who were killed so unnecessarily. They were hung out to dry so that the most disgusting POTUS ever could have a good shot at another four years in the White House.
I can't remember who it was exactly in the NDP who said about 15 yrs ago.."the job of the military is to die when we tell them to".
That pretty much sums up how the Left feels about us(I'm still in...getting close to retirement).
And remember the guy who made the video is still in jail...based on Obama's BIG LIE.
Bravo, Lance. I don't think you can overemphasize Benghazi.
clown, Romney DID comment on Benghazi, both in the 2nd debate and outside. I think his team made the tactical decision not to reduce Benghazi to a political argument but to rely on FOX and others to keep it a government debacle.
That is, I tend to believe that Obama refused to acknowledge the calls for assitance, and refused to acknowledge the reality that it was a terrorist attack, for his own political reasons. Obama's self-description of Himself is as The Great One. He considers that one aspect of that is that He has 'conquered terrorism'. That this is nonsense is irrelevant; Obama doesn't live in the real world. He has no capacity to feel empathy or to feel anything for anyone.
Benghazi, to Obama, was an 'unwelcome reality' that denied Obama's own fictional self-narrative and so, his response was to ignore it. Reality can't so easily be ignored, and Obama has had to rely on sending out his minions (Rice, Hillary, Jay Carney) to lie for him. It's not working.
I agree with Lance and others here, that it was Obama who refused to permit the military to move in and save the four.
I think the MSM press are silent because they must know that the facts and Obama's fictions are contradictory - and are too stunned to do anything other than silence.
You nail it Lance.
Oh, I forgot. My sincere apologies. Thank you and all of your family for your fine service to our country, Lance. I wish I knew your rank so I could salute you properly. Still... ATTENTION! COLOURS, SIR! GUARD,
GENERAL SALUTE, PRESENT – ARMS!
Lance, thanks for your service. We have to continue to emphasize Benghazi until the MSM starts to cover it. I see it everyday, every hour on Fox but only on Fox. It doesn't fit the neat story barry wants to tell the electorate of a successful foreign policy. His entire presidency is a failure from the bank and auto bailouts, to this travesty in Libya. I wish you were more than preaching to the converted, but hopefully it will get through to somebody somewhere who will ask questions and get through to someone etc. Once the election is over, Mitt Romney has to get to the bottom of this and heads must roll. Its all well and good to say "you can't second guess the actions taken in the fog of war", but to leave 2 brave men to die alone at their machine guns while drones beamed pictures back to the White House is a disgrace. Schedules show that barry was meeting in the Oval Office with joe the dick biden and leon panetta while the attack was happening. I wonder if barry just turned his back and went to bed because he had a big fundraiser in Vegas next day. "I've got a long flight tomorrow, let me know how it turns out". I suspect this is what happened. The more revelations I hear, the more disgusted I get.
"The Western World the Greeks gave us requires a strong US."
It was a great letter except for that sentence. Nowhere else in the World is there a "Declaration of Independence" than in the United States or a constitution that begins "We, the people.."
No, the Greeks didn't give Americans the modern Western World. Americans built it on a foundation having a much more deeper understanding of individual freedom and justice then the Greeks. To keep it functioning intact they must be strong to defend it.
Here's hoping this helps.
I think Petraeus has seen 'where this is going' and doesn't want to be on the side of the losers.
http://patdollard.com/2012/10/breaking-petraeus-issues-statement-throws-obama-under-the-bus/
Benghazi matters because 4 Americans were killed.
Benghazi matters because of the orders to"stand down" were issued...and ignored.
Benghazi matters notbecause obama's administration failed to send help, but because they failed to even try to help.
Failure can be forgiven but failure to even try? That breaks a code of Honour, and to try to cover it up by blaming others? It is why people get shuned.
When I think of Bengahzi, my throat constricts.
Thankyou for your words Lance. The longer Obama's silence is supported by the MSM the more guilty he appears.
We have never had a family member in the canadian military .
I just want to thankyou for your service.
Because we live near Shilo I have come to have great respect for all Canadians who serve in the military.
NME666 >
"I disagree with those who think it was a "chain of command" break down."
Hey dummy, when SHTF and it's not handled there is a break down in command.
Great post Lance.
Couldn't agree more.
And if people want another view on the whole sordid Benny affair, try this from Oct 26.
http://barnhardt.biz/
Its enuff to make you puke at the Obama admin.
Thanks are not enough, Lance. But, THANK YOU just the same!
Hillary (the Lizard Queen who eats her young), being the Sec of State, has a track record with Whitewater and dead bodies which have never been accounted for properly. The DNA has been written and the chickens are now coming home to roost.
She has been running around all over the planet since Bengahzi, doing what? Bribing and threatening? Damage control? Letting world leaders in on the dirty little secret, thereby ensuring and securing support for her run for the Presidency in '16?
Why wouldn't she be campaigning with the Usurper in Chief to ensure she keeps her job? Hasn't been much on the MSM regarding her, other than saying she has been channeling with dead people.
Bengahzi will be to Obama what Watergate was to Nixon. Too bad he will be living in Hawaii. How much money will be spent by the taxpayers shuttling him back and forth from the Islands?
Obama has always been a Taker, looks like it some things will never change.
Yeah well....a lotta my attitude about this stuff is a reflection of the influence of a grizzled old gunnery sergeant.
Lance good stuff but no kudus for doing what is expected of you.
The chain of command didn't break down...somebody didn't do what was expected of them.
The scuttle-butt from my old boy net is that element(s) in the White-House with no authority ordered the stand-down....probably/possibly Valerie Jarrott. That is what is being concealed covered up.
Why are we, as Canadians, more outraged than the majority of Americans?
Bile rises up as I think of it and yet millions will vote for this sham of a commander-in-chief.
He can fake his ability to emphasize (like the fact that he honestly cares about blacks)but he can't fake integrity, leadership and responsibility.
Millions in America haven't heard of the Benghazi attack, let alone know any of the newest facts coming out, thanks mainly to Jennifer Griffin of Fox News.
If her sources are as reliable as she says, then this should blow up (please God!) before Nov. 6th to prevent a disaster: Obama losing by such a close margin that his supporters will battle for six months.
Sasquatch,
She was advising on obl. But why would anyone in the chain listen to Jarrett in that situation unless Obama agreed.
Military takes formal authority seriously. So even if Jarrett said it, the word would had to have come from Obama that she was in charge in his absence or present while she spoke.
This is why I want someone to call his bluff and ask him who he gave the order to secure to, his words.
My bet is he didn't but one way or another the story will come out. If someone is going to blow the whistle they'll do it by Wednesday.
If not they'll let the voting public set the table and then they'll work from there.
