and it isn't going to be quiet or comfortable? Are Americans really ready to support a long term struggle to permanently

Excellent points but the country is split either way with no resolution in sight. The divide is entrenched and whether it's Romney or Obama there will be no harmony, middle of the road policies will not satisfy either side and there can be only two paths; over the cliff or war in the ghetos. Inevitable. Democracies seldom exceed 200 years and time is up for this one.

Canadian Friend - I would advise reading some Thomas Sowell. The culture is imported from Britain, borderland Scots and/or Irish if I recall, and when the black southerners who had adopted this culture from their poor (but free) neighbours moved to the rest of the country their new black neighbours protested vigorously. The culture wasn't a black thing, it was learned. Similarly, "the great society" destroyed the black family (replacing dad with a government check) and is reaping the usual results of liberal's good intentions. It's also what early suffragettes would have thought about Sandra Fluke... "we were fighting hard for a good place in society, and THIS is what comes along claiming to be one of us?"

I've been debating this with the brain dead for some time. They fail to comprehend that all previous presidents, even Dubya, got bi-partisan deals done with opposing Congresses. But because Bammy hasn't it's not his fault.
