The Sound of Settled Science

In the article, the examples cited are about falsifying data. The conclusion is about plagiarism detection software.

An interesting link to Retraction Watch for science readers.

This caught my eye:

"In July, for example, the Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists reported that Dr. Yoshitaka Fujii had falsified data in 172 papers. Most of those papers have yet to be officially retracted. “They’re headed for the fraud pile,” Dr. Oransky said."

Can you imagine if someone was harmed or killed because of the false information this guy put out?

You mean like the quack in the UK who killed/maimed a few kids because he faked data concerning vaccinations vis a vis ADD?
Or did you mean the mass murderer Rachel Carson?

Plagairism has been around since Gutenberg. Times have changed and with millions of people on the net it is far more difficult to call important work as your own if it was not and get away with it. Bullsh!t on the other hand has never been easier to pass as fact. Just ask the UN or the IPCC. or Mulcair or McGuinty,or Obama etc, etc, etc.

When science is used to determine policies, science becomes politics. And since bull*** is the main ingredient of politics it was only natural that science would turn into bull***.

These people leave private practice to work on governmental budget committees,

Billion here- billion there,
we have trillions to work with.

Fraud and abuse leads to what? A slap on the wrist and a new job? Fired, that's what should happen to those cretins. There's just no point to any of the research if it cannot be trusted.

I would not want to be the guy an Insurance company fingered for a wrongfull death($).

THAT would send a frickin message I'll tell you.

Justthinkin, I meant the Japanese fella but, yes, those guys if possible.
