About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Biden was unprofessional throughout. His attitude of disrespect for someone who evidently knows his stuff and cares about the country will, in my view, cost him credibility and, ultimately, votes. The GOP is absolutely right to highlight this attitude. And they're mighty quick to do so, so good on 'em.
Any thinking person meeting Biden for the first time and knowing nothing about him,
would likely conclude he was a retired low achiever used car salesman who was
starting to show symptoms of something akin to tertiary neurosyphilis.
.
What's worse than having the Coach from 'Cheers' a heartbeat away from the Presidency? Having the Joker from 'Batman' in the same position.
The lack of respect and downright contempt Joe Biden showed towards his much junior colleague, who was respectful and occasionally deferential -- because Ryan's a gentleman -- was extremely off putting and may cause a lot of undecideds to ditch the Dems and vote for the Republicans. Even the Dem/Obama Dhimmie, David Brooks, pointed that out after the debate.
Biden's a seasoned debater but if you parse his bluster, or his malarkey, as he himself put it, what he said lacked substance, on top of which his bullying, sashaying stance was nasty. I wanted to reach through the TV a few times and knock him one on the nose. I'm pretty sure Paul Ryan felt the same but, to his credit, he totally kept his cool and delivered verbal blow after blow. I hope Americans were listening.
We got a good look at the Biden sneer, he could be cast a used car salesman with the caption "Would you buy a used car from this man?"
Can't figure out what he found so hilarious given the state of affairs his administration is in.
Slimy and I would't leave my wallet alone in a room with him.
Once again, I'm not being sarcastic:
Biden had a brain tumor years ago. Just sayin'
Greg Gutfeld said Biden looked like a drunk who'd cornered friendly polite Ryan in a bar... :-)
I've talked to people in Biden's state, btw, who SWEAR by him. Greatest guy on earth and so forth. I reply that anyone that "likeable" is a sociopath; it takes an exhausting level of charm to be a successful con man.
The Biden attitude that it was Obama's Plan that removing ONE Marine from a Foxhole of two Marines and inserting an Afgan into the missing buddies place was an acceptable replacement. Is it any wonder we are losing Warriors? Biden & Obama are idiots
Ryan opened the EU/UN role which shows that Obama has turned over USA Sovereignty. The Veto of Russia & China in American Affairs are acts of treason. Mitt needs to destroy the hidden agenda of Obama...
Why do we think that Journalist only exist at the Networks. Time to stop the crap
This administration just had an ambassador sodomized and murdered. The Middle East is teetering on the brink of all out war. Our economy is growing at just over 1% per year, if that, and a massive tax increase is set to cripple us at the end of the year. What is this moron laughing about again?
I've 'debated' with more than a few left leaning people who use the same tactics as Biden. They cannot help themselves. Their usual defense to situations where they find themselves without an argument is to debase their opponent as an intellectual lightweight that just doesn't get it.
I would not have been shocked if Joe had blurted out "You're a racist" when they were discussing the Middle East.
The beloved state broadcaster has a debate poll.Who won?
Biden - 88%
Ryan - 10%
http://tinyurl.com/8agbwsc
The Daily Kos has a poll up also.At least they run a disclaimer of sorts.
Biden - 88%
Ryan - 10%

If the cbc was a reputable organization they would be asking themselves some hard questions about their political coverage. Unfortunately, they are not.
FIRE.THEM.ALL.
Years ago took a film making course at SAIT in Calgary.
The instructor said that grin and a laugh is sort of way out of an uncomfortable circumstance.
It is clear that the whole audience noticed the mostly inappropriate grins of the vice president.
Biden is a likable guy, knows foreign policy, agreed with Reagan and Bush more often than not. In earlier times he sounded positively republican.
The theory here is that he succumbed to the “strategists” and demagoguery of the socialists of the Democratic Party.
Its like: You want this job? You do and say what we say, other than that take a hike.
Often, Biden claimed that he was in the room, which is probably true. The thing is, if you want to spin the fact around, it means nothing.
Ryan, while being younger, held his own. His conduct was admirable, did well, can hold his head up high.
I didn't catch the debate but in this ad, Biden is truely a sad sack.
This is a VP? ick.
CNN poll
Ryan - 48%
Biden - 44
Someone needs to do a meta-poll.
Didn't watch it, but judging from the comments, Ryan must have come our 2nd best. ;)
I didn't have an opportunity to watch the entire debate last evening but we were all saying the same thing. "What exactly does this clown find so bloody amusing?" Snickering and guffawing the entire debate. We presumed he was intoxicated but remembered this is Biden. The clown-prince of stupidity and ignorance. That's probably all you need to know.
Biden looked like a petulant teenager looking for a fight, he also acted like he was on some kind of happy psycho pills.
Crazy Joe's a heartbeat away from running the free world.
He's a mental case.
Biden did not let down all those millions of people who think the man's crazy. The reserve that the (adult in the debate) Paul Ryan showed was amazing, to sit that close to someone who is acting so condescending and disrespectful, and know you could shove the old lunatics hair plugs right up his, well I thought Ryan was very professional. The left are so childish in whatever they do, they have a media that covers for them constantly so they never have to grow up, like the parents that baby one son while constantly finding fault in the other son, the media have created these babys, and babys are not qualified to operate heavy machinery or entire countries, this idiot Biden proved that last night.
I noted the same thing. Biden seemed capable in discussing the issues, but his constant interrupting, snarky laughing, and 'you lie' attitude was about as unprofessional as it gets. He EMBODIES the Washington sleazy politician. If you tuned in to watch it as someone who wasn't familiar with either, Biden left a foul taste in your mouth.
I was impressed that Ryan didn't pop off; only once did I hear him ask Biden to stop interrupting.
Policy wasn't the issue last night; personality was. Ryan had to demonstrate to people who'd never seen him before that he was a calm, careful, thoughtful individual who doesn't fly off the handle when people like Biden try to rattle him. And on that count, I thought Ryan did very well.
If that video gets much play, it will definitely change the dynamics of the campaign. People respond with their guts -- and this video shows a disrespectful and callous VP.
Joe Biden for all his faults is a long term politician, Senator (1972-2009) VP (2009-present).
You'd expect him to do better than his boss in debate. I'd expect Foghorn Leghorn (the Looney Tunes rooster) to do better than Obama. Mind you, all three are sick jokes.
I was extremely disappointed that the moderator - and I use that term loosely - failed to haul in Biden when he continually spoke over and interrupted Ryan. As well, it appeared that each time Ryan was nailing his point, the moderator would suddenly shift focus. Shabby. And no, I didn't find any of it funny as did Biden. I found myself thinking, STFU many times.
C'mon guys, what everybody SHOULD be doing is talking it up that Biden had exactly the right approach.......then....next Tuesday, at the second Romney/O'Bummer event, his boss will come out laughing & interrupting.
Don't know how well the detail orientated Ryan will sell to the voters. Perhaps people are actually scared enough in the USA that they will listen to what he had to say.
Yes the moderator was trying to get the talking points out there but I thought she pursued some embarassing points with Biden as well as Ryan. Couple of times Biden talked over her and Ryan should have done the same if that was what he was faced with. Romney did and it worked well.
Biden got his points out and probably did well with those who were already leaning in the Demo direction. I thought Ryan could have done a better job on focussing more of the debate around the economy and the actual impact it was having on mainstreet. Romney was much better at that than Ryan. Biden might not have any depth but he looked into the camera several times asked the viewers simple questions. Ryan had to respond to that and I thought he didn't do as well there as he should have.
About that moderator.

I wonder if he plowed her?
canuck66:
You nailed it.
Joe was an a$$, and the "moderator" allowed Joe to be an a$$, and when Ryan started to score points the "moderator" pulled the rug out.
Only good news - when its that obviously one-sided, people notice and actually become more receptive to Ryan's message.
It doesn't hurt that Biden was being himself, either.
Chalk one up for Ryan.
Considering what he was up against, he done good.
a common thread here is-
Joe Biden, used car salesman. Which is not a bad analogy considering the outdated rust-bucket of socialist ideas he's trying to sell...
and that sleazy, greasy grin just makes the analogy even better.
The Democrats are simply unfit for office. They've become spoiled man-children who think the world has to work the way they were taught in school by their idiot so-called professors. They simply ignore anything that doesn't fit their worldview and deride anyone who dares confront them with reality. When reality doesn't conform to their brain-dead policies, they simply double down on the stupid; see California.
Biden himself is the court jester of this administration, a completely unserious fool who couldn't run a lemonade stand.
Neither one said anything of groundbreaking significance, but emotionally, both said enough to stir those that supported them to begin with. That leaves viewers that watched this unfold with no little or no emotions attached to their assessment. For those, I suspect that their read on Biden was that he was at best, irritating and at worst, an irritating, rude, disrespectful, hellish liar. As for Ryan, he wasn't any of those things, although admittedly, rather dry and disengaging, but I doubt he left many of the unbiased group feeling he was a jerk.

Comparing Biden to a used car salesman is a compliment - Given my recent home improvement experience I'd compare him to some renovation contractors.
Some of the excuses so far:
- Trust me, you'll be happy when I'm done
- It is what it is
- It'll fix itself
- It's an optical illusion.
- I need more money to fix what I've screwed up
I watched as much as I could stand and noted that: a)the moderator asked Ryan for specific plans which he often supplied but never asked Biden to be specific about anything b) Biden was rude (I would have broken his nose if I was in Ryan's shoes) and Ryan was as polite as a choirboy
c) Biden was smirking, as if the middle east, the economy and the insolvency of social security and medicare were not serious matters.
I only saw one adult man there.
1. This is the best advertisement I've ever seen for term limits. Most say TWO, I say ONE.
2. Booze (something I know a thing or two about having gotten off the poison a decade or so ago): He was drinking before that "debate". No question about this.
3. The smile: During psychotherapy for depression about two decades ago, the shrink kept calling me on my smiling while relating very painful episodes during my childhood. He made quite a big deal over this.
I'm intrigued by Obama's SMILE which seems to be deep down genuine not pasted on like Biden's. The ultimate CON MAN I guess. Psychopathology. Litte old lady fleeced of his life savings: "He was such a NICE man".
Looked to me like the Obama camp's strategy was to laugh off Ryan in a condescending way and try to make it look like he was just a lightweight kid out of his depth.
If that was the plan Biden way overplayed it.
The other part of the strategy was to lie through his shiny beaver teeth.
There should be term limits for all politicians so that assholes like Biden must return to the polyester suit and his own used car lot (no reputable dealership would hire him) before he has learned to pimp the mindless over and over and over again.
Never trust a guy who could be nick named Smiley

Chris Wallace shares his thoughts on Biden's performance.
Love Joe's dental implants?
They're gorgeous!
what some would ask, why would the DEMS have such a fool as their VP????
and that may take a few days to sink in, but it should help shift things in favour of the GOP, atleast with sorft GOP'rs, and moderate DEMs, and lots of the middle ground
As obnoxious as Biden was, he accomplished what the Democrats base wanted - he was aggressive. So, the Dem base will be happy and re-energized after Obama's lackluster performance last week.
Republicans and conservatives have always thought that Biden was a clown and Ryan held his own (although he didn't deliver a decisive performance), so they're happy.
As mentioned above by a couple of commenters, the most significant impact from this debate will be the independents. By their very nature, independents don't tend to vote on issues so much as how the candidates make them feel. I've obviously made up my mind, so I can't be objective, but I can't imagine that independents saw anything last night in Biden that would help them "feel good" about voting for the Obama/Biden ticket.

I think AngrySmiley is worse.
But did anyone else think it was extra-weird how his affect changed? At roughly (as I remember it) 2/3 into the debate he went from grinning bizarrely and laughing inappropriately to suddenly acting all intense and gravelly and quiet. I really think someone must have given him a signal - holding up a sign off-stage or something like that: "Joe, FFS stop laughing!!!"
As almost a side-thing, I was left wondering what the point of these debates is, given the way they're formatted. Five hours would be enough time to talk policy in any useful way. What we get with the sort of set-up we had last night is just one-off impression of personalities. That's not worthless, but it's not adequate either.
Red Necky:
Agreed. Best set of teeth I've ever seen in a Vice-Presidential Debate.
What struck me most was the amazing change in Joe's demeanour when the subject being discussed was abortion.
No more smiles and grins, speak soft and reverently, like a saint.
Is there an academy award for such a performance?
"Is there an academy award for such a performance?"
Nobel Peace Prize?

~Me No Dhimmi
Single terms prevent governing/planning with an eye to the future.
fun fact: Texas, the Lone Star State, used to be an independent nation Republic which had single term limits for it's Presidents. While Sam Houston was out of office between single terms as President of the Republic of Texas, Anson Jones(4th and last President of Texas) signed an annexation agreement with the United States and the nation of Texas was no more.
Black Mamba
Same!
I was doing the pantomime of what I imagined the desperate signal callers were doing in the audience or side stage, last night during the debate trying to convey to Joe he must stop grinning and laughing like a fool. My wife and I were cracking each other up. It would be a great SNL skit if they weren't committing professional haricari, that is.
That it took 3/4 of the debate for Crazy Joe to even look at his team handlers tells you how far their heads are crammed up their own asses.
richfisher - heh. But Harikiri is honour-based. SNL not so much.
