Almost exactly a year ago, the government initiated a public consultation to consider the “value of the word insulting” in Section 5. A published response was expected in May. It is now October and Parliament is still waiting, as is Mr. Atkinson.

In his speech the funnyman with the big ears, sloped shoulders and pinched expression, decried Britain’s descent into a “censorious culture,” where sticks and stones may or may not hurt you — but calling a horse queer will get you arrested.

Well here is a good way to counter the lack of MSM news on Benghazi. This is from a post from piattq who says:

I AM DECLARING SUNDAY NOV. 4 MY NATIONAL BENGHAZI DAY. I AM SETTING AN EMPTY CHAIR IN MY FRONT YARD AND I AM ADDING A SIGN: REMEMBER 9-11-2012 BENGHAZI---VOTE WITH YOUR HEART.

The USA will now allow HIV positive immigrants in the country

is it just me or does this sound like a bad idea, you know as the tax payer will be stuck with the medical bills and all?

Barry just wants more potential hookups.

"MONTREAL — Immigrants from the francophonie and Latin America are being turned down for jobs in Montreal because they don’t speak English and are told to look off-island instead — and that’s bad, Quebec’s immigration minister says."

As an anglophone living in Montreal, this is music to my ears. The PQ cannot win this battle.

Terrific tune on tonight's lead-in. I've sent it to all the soldiers I've served with.

Freedom may be something we once took for granted, but that was long ago. Bit by tiny bit......:

National Post, Monday, Oct. 29. Alan Borovoy on abortion.

http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/10/29/a-alan-borovoy-when-it-comes-to-abortion-personhood-is-beside-the-point/

AB: "... there is no rational way to decide when personhood begins."

Reason is man's tool for gaining knowledge, and is his primary means of survival. It is the ONLY way to decide when personhood begins. That doesn't mean it's easy, of course.

Those who oppose abortion believe the fetus has the rights of an individual from the moment of conception. Those who are not opposed believe it obtains rights either when it is born, or at a point when it becomes viable, which I take to mean it can survive outside the womb with normal parental care and without "heroic measures". It should be noted that the catchphrase "life begins at conception" is correct, since the fetus is alive at all times, but whether it is an individual human life that has rights does not necessarily follow from this fact.

AB: "The abortion debate should focus less on the mysteries of embryonic life and more on the limits of governmental power."

But on this issue it cannot focus on the limits of governmental power over the individual until it knows whether the fetus has the rights of the individual or not.

Meanwhile, there are tens of thousands of laws at the federal, provincial and municipal levels that infringe on individual rights. Canada's civil liberties associations do publicly oppose a select handful of them, and presumably a fair number of others too, but they could be doing a lot more.

Sometimes, however, they support the wrong side. Often, public education is involved. Case in point: the current attempt to stop or reduce separate school funding in Ontario, which "has the backing of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association", according to the Toronto Sun.

Let me state this loud and clear: You cannot have both civil liberties and public education. The only way to resolve the separate school funding issue in a way that is consistent with civil liberties like freedom of thought, conscience and expression is to remove all school funding from taxpayers and to put it in the hands of students and their parents. But a system in which a fraction of the public are Roman Catholic and who send their taxes to separate schools is fairer than one in which they are forced to support a monopoly system. It is discriminatory against other religions, but a way to deal with that is to fund the others' schools too, from the taxes of the believers. This is not optimal, but it is better than what we have, and much better than what the lawsuit plaintiffs and the alleged civil liberties association want.

We need the separation of school and state, in the same way and for the same reasons as the separation of church and state. This is from Ayn Rand, and it may not be quoted exactly, but the meaning is clear.

Have a look at:

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/10/krauthammer-slams-obama-over-hurricane-sandy-photo-op-video/

My wife had been listening to CBC Radio on Sunday afternoon and evening while traveling, and asked me worriedly when she got home if I thought that Obama's taking a high profile on the hurricane would be helpful to him.

I responded by asking, "Oh, he's trying to help with the hurricane? Just like he tried to help the 30 or so American diplomats and consulate personnel trapped in Benghazi (four died; 25 or so escaped/rescued after seven hours of fighting by 2 former navy seals)?" I guaranteed -- guaranteed -- her that my comparison would appear on the internet before the day was out -- and low and behold, it's Krauthammer!

Because when you're from Canada, you know a duplicitous left-wing hypocrite of a politician when you see one!

And I further assured her that Obama's hypocrisy would drive Mitt's numbers up because, as Kraut says, it's hard to watch (by which he means sickening, I'm sure).

Politics aside, my thoughts and prayers are with those in the path of Sandy.

Islamic Fascist recounting on Benghazi Affair. "So there we were, 4 against 1000. The toughest 4 we ever fought.

@RFB actually it was 2 former SEALs against 200--the other two were the ambassador and a civilian diplomatic worker (one of whom was dead and the other, the ambassador, was gravely injured and probably not able to help with the firefight). So two men held off the mob for seven hours and were calling in for aid the whole time. Aid which the POTUS decided not to send and overrided the order of a four-star general commanding AFRICOM who was sending military aid despite his orders from the White House. Anybody who wears a uniform is sickened deep down by how a Commander and Chief would let his men die for no reason--because we like to feel that our leadership all the way up the chain of command has our back when the sh!t hits the fan.

"when the sh!t hits the fan."

Better really worry, when the $hit's at the WHEEL.

Here come the alarmists, once again linking a specific weather event to climate change.

Because we've never seen a hurricane come onshore, causing all sorts of havoc. {/s}

Victor Davis Hanson is quite possibly the finest writer on the modern liberal. Having been one as recently as 2008 I can attest to his accuracy in the following:

http://pjmedia.com/victordavishanson/why-liberals-think-what-they-do/?singlepage=true

"Because America is so affluent, it allows so many the luxury to dream of how our wealth is so ill-gotten — as long as quiet others in the shadows ensure that life remains pretty good in San Francisco and Madison. Contrarianism is an innate characteristic, but one indulged without risk, only when the larger tribe is safe and secure."

It took me a long, long time to realise that I am one of those "quiet others". That I was in fact working hard to destroy myself! I'm all right now. (Pun intended)

An explosive question about Benghazi which leads to Obama and no other official: Why did you deny CBA to those who wanted to rescue the Americans in Benghazi? What's "CBA" ? http://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/bracken-did-obama-withhold-cross-border-authority/

Bono discovers the power of capitalism:

Bono's 'Humbling' Realizations About Aid, Capitalism And Nerds

"the activist for poverty reduction in Africa spoke frankly on Friday about how his views about philanthropy had now stretched to include an appreciation for capitalism.
The Irish singer and co-founder of ONE, a campaigning group that fights poverty and disease in Africa, said it had been “a humbling thing for me” to realize the importance of capitalism and entrepreneurialism in philanthropy, particularly as someone who “got into this as a righteous anger activist with all the cliches.”"

I'm a bit cynical about his conversion. If his next album has any songs praising Milton Friedman then I'll be a believer.

"SANDY DEBUNKED:
Sandy is not the strongest hurricane north of Cape Hatteras."

"A near-record low barometric pressure occurred with Sandy offshore Monday afternoon. The pressure bottomed at 27.76 inches. For a storm north of Cape Hatteras, N.C., Hurricane Gladys of 1977 holds the record at 27.73 inches. Gladys was a Category 4 hurricane which remained off the coast of the U.S."

"Death knell for wind farms: 'Enough is Enough' says minister"

"Wind farms have been “peppered” across Britain without enough consideration for the countryside and people’s homes, a senior Conservative energy minister admitted last night as he warned “enough is enough”."

"John Hayes said that we can “no longer have wind turbines imposed on communities” and added that it “seems extraordinary” they have allowed to spread so much throughout the country.

The energy minister said he had ordered a new analysis of the case for onshore wind power which would form the basis of future government policy, rather than “a bourgeois Left article of faith based on some academic perspective”. The comments sparked speculation that Conservative ministers are planning to drop their support for wind farms — a move which would trigger a major Coalition rift.

Mr Hayes, who was appointed energy minister in last month’s reshuffle, is understood to believe that there should be a moratorium on new onshore wind farms. Almost 4,000 turbines are set to be built across Britain in the coming years."

"North turbine off, south producing power during storm"

"October 30, 2012"

"FAIRHAVEN — Inconsistent current flowing through the grid shut down the town's north turbine Sunday evening, according to Fairhaven Wind developer Sumul Shah.

That turbine remained offline throughout Hurricane Sandy's Monday assault on the region, and Shah estimated it would not be running again until this afternoon.

"Basically what happened is the same thing that happens in your house when the lights dim a little bit but don't go out," Shah said. "The grid current is not regulated, so the turbine shuts down."

Fairhaven's south and north turbines are on two different circuits, so if one goes out it does not affect the other.

The south turbine was fully functioning during the hurricane and only shut down periodically when wind speeds surpassed 55 mph."
