This tweet, made well after #tsunami was a trending topic on twitter, amused me. (Note the account name.)

Major Tsunami Warning all over the West Coast of North America.

An earthquake was felt here about an hour ago. I knew instantly what it was, having experienced the rocking, rolling and noises outside twice before. This one went on longer than the last time.

Definitive explanation of why The Phantom doesn't like Big

Breaking News- 7.7 magnitude earthquake of the tip of Vancouver island. Tsunami warning issued.

Chutz, where is it that you reside?

I felt nothing in central Vancouver.

Phantom, very, VERY interesting statistic you reference there. I'm not surprised though. Here in Canada, let's take the total amount of amount spent on Native Indians and divide it by the number of households of that part of the population. I bet the number would be at least $60,000!

The video:
Faaaakkk!! THAT is a keeper!

I hate rap but I watched the whole thing, pain free...amazing.
Point is, kids can FOLLOW the message.

Note the debt is not simply $51k per person, it's $104k......per TAXPAYER, ouch.

Robert W., I'm on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island. (Fortunately, on a hill:)

Here is the budget of the federal government for taxpayer’s money allocated to Indian and Native affairs
http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/rpp/2009-2010/inst/ian/ian01-eng.asp
Financial resources 2009-10 $ 7.33 Billion, Human Resources (FTEs) 2009-10 $ 4.81 Billion
These two items are in addition to any provincial monies that have been allocated. This does not include so called “loss revenue” from income taxes or casino taxes that are not collected etc.

In other words, it's a bottomless pit

Good commercial. The right is getting better.

While checking out the link above to your post at your blog, I also noted your post about the dunce cap and the other, er, "promotional material" you mentioned in connection with it.

It's apparently started again -- Bush Derangement Syndrome (Romney Variant, this time). The Lena Dunham video and the stylized, um, VOTE ad evidently belie and are trying to tap into an uncontrolled rage among some elements of the Democratic base about something or other.

The dunce cap thing is also interesting: by way of anecdote, I was speaking with a pro-Dem acquaintance of mine on Thursday, who managed, without so much as my even mentioning his name, to get quite animated about what a moron and idiot Mitt Romney is. It was out and out name calling only -- no actual, you know, supporting arguments or evidence (the crudeness of the comments surprised me, considering that the individual is a PhD). At first I wrote this off as individual foibles, until I saw the dunce cap up at Drudge yesterday.

Lance's headline the other day about the Dunham video was "They Know They're Losing". I disagreed with his assessment then, but now I'm less certain: on one level, I still think they're utterly clueless about how offensive they are, but on another level, the re-emergence of the kaput loser-ville tactics of the GWB years says that they do kind of understand that they're in tough this time. Not that they could ever believe or admit to themselves that they could actually ever lose an election fair and square or anything, or that they're ever wrong.

Reading the tsunami story first thing this morning, I had to Google what the hell a Haida Gwaii was.
Now find out it's the Queen Charlotte Islands for God's sake.
Who's the idiot that decided to change a perfectly good name to some unpronouncable gibberish??

Rick, 7:23a.m. --

"On June 3, 2010, the Haida Gwaii Reconciliation Act officially renamed the islands Haida Gwaii as part of a reconciliation protocol between British Columbia and the Haida people.[2][4]" -- from Wikipedia

That would be courtesy of the BC Liberal government of Gordon Campbell (Christy Clark in supporting role as deputy-premier).

On the other hand, if you want to turn your nausea into outright vomiting and get over this thing more quickly, try this:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/10/27/bc-liberal-convention.html

Thanks David
Sounds like reconciliation is a euphemism for grovelling and ass kissing. I shall continue to refer to them as the Queen Charlotte Islands just as I continue to refer to Eskimos as Eskimos and Red Indians as Red Indians.

Warning: Tarot cards with pictures of Vlad Putin on them can be dangerous to your physical health: laughing can cause injury, particularly when you fall out of your chair and start rolling around. Make sure you land on something soft! You can lesson your pain in advance with an Asian boiler-making: shot of vodka in a glass of Foster's.

This character freely uses language of hate (while the article is about hate speech, this is plain hate, don’t care if it is offensive) in order to get his point across. Much like this:

"You...are SCUM for supporting these thugs," reads one of the posts Russell allegedly wrote on the site in September 2010. The post was directed at another forum user with whom Russell appeared to disagree about the actions of the Bush administration. "I couldn't give less of a flying [expletive] what your syphilitic, blackened EVIL brain thinks about a god [expletive] thing. [Expletive]. Die in agony and then roast in hell."

Isn’t that just elegant language of highly sophisticated and educated “Democrat”?

'Loved that vid. Like eastern paul, I'm not into rap, but this one's different. It makes sense!!!!

As I watched/listened to the multi-messages being delivered simultaneously, I thought, "Yeah, this'll speak to the kids, even though I find it a bit dizzying."

OTOH, Obama's massive assault on the U.S. economy and Americans' civilized sensibilities has been dizzying. He's released colossal confusion on the nation and, as the Good Book says, confusion is not of the Lord.

We know where it comes from.

Both the article and *comments* afterward are VERY INTERESTING.

"In an unusual move, the Navy has replaced an admiral commanding an aircraft carrier strike group while it is deployed to the Middle East. The replacement was prompted by an Inspector General’s investigation of allegations of inappropriate leadership judgment.

Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette, the commander of the USS John C. Stennis strike group, is being returned to the United States for temporary reassignment.

In a statement the Navy said it had approved a request made by Vice Adm. John W. Miller, the Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, to temporarily reassign Gaouette 'pending the results of an investigation by the Navy Inspector General.'"

"New Zealand may quit Kyoto"

"New Zealand has been tipped to quit the Kyoto Protocol, designed to cut global emissions.

Government officials next month travel to Doha in Qatar for the latest round of negotiations on the treaty, but with less than four weeks before the summit, acting Climate Change Minister Simon Bridges says the Government has "not made a decision" on its commitment.

"My understanding is that decisions have yet to be made on that matter," he said.

But the actions of participants in the carbon market, and market signs, suggest the Government is preparing to walk away. It will soon pass legislation that critics claim will weaken an already ineffectual emissions trading scheme, the mechanism designed to put a price on carbon and encourage a transition to a lower-carbon economy."

The Saudis have helped fund Obama's rise to the Presidency. Looks as though they want some payback.

AFP - Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on Saturday demanded a UN resolution condemning insults on monotheistic religions after a low-budget film produced in the US sparked deadly protests last month.

"I demand a UN resolution that condemns any country or group that insults religions and prophets," he said during a meeting at his palace with religious figures and heads of hajj delegations in the Mina valley where pilgrims were performing final rituals of hajj.

"It is our duty and that of every Muslim to protect Islam and defend the prophets."

A low-budget film produced in the US, Innocence of Muslims, triggered a wave of deadly anti-American violence last month across the Muslim world targeting US symbols ranging from embassies and schools to fast food chains.

"Don’t mess with the CIA [Benghazi]"

"You know who doesn’t like getting thrown under the bus? The CIA. You know what the CIA does when you try to throw it under the bus? They get even — quickly, quietly, and with fatal consequences.

That seems the most logical explanation for the torrent of information pouring out this week (unless Hillary Rodham Clinton — also thrown under the bus by President Obama — is scrapping any chance of ever running for president again and is simply setting the whole administration on fire, along with her legacy as secretary of state).

The main lesson from Watergate (after the no-brainer that you should never hire a guy named “Tricky Dick”) was this: The Cover-Up Is Worse Than The Crime. For some reason, Professor Obama seems not to know this crucial lesson. Or he’s just arrogant enough to say, “Well, that doesn’t apply to someone as brilliant as moi.”

Make no mistake, though: There is a massive cover-up under way in the White House. Nothing else can explain the endless contradictions over the attack that left the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans dead. The White House already has had to rewrite the entire narrative once, holding a late-night conference call with reporters just before a House hearing two weeks ago in which State Department officials told a whole new tale: There was no “spontaneous” protest over some anti-Islam video posted on YouTube. Instead, there were dozens of heavily armed terrorists who poured over a 9-foot-high fence covered with barbed wire to attack America on 9/11.

Last week, Mr. Obama told another bald-faced lie when he declared at the presidential debate that he had termed the attack “terrorist” in a Rose Garden address the next day. He did no such thing; in fact,.......

"First U.S. Oil Sands Mine Proceeds Without Pollution Permit"

"Utah officials have given a Canadian company the greenlight to begin mining oil sands on a remote plateau in Eastern Utah without first obtaining a pollution permit or monitoring groundwater quality, an action that sets the stage for a possible court battle over the fragile region.

The board of the Utah Division of Water Quality sided with Calgary-based U.S. Oil Sands contends that there was little or no water in the area of the company's proposed mine site and affirmed the agency's earlier decision not to require the permits or monitoring."
