The radio dram brought back many fond memories of sitting under the warm glow of a kerosene lamp by the battery radio during the winter months and listening to the radio shows. One of the best was "I Was a Communist for the FBI", or some such. Boston Blackie was a really tough fellow. My mom's favorites were the Firestone Music Hall and Ma Perkins.

Good for the United States in keeping the USS Constitution around as a symbol of a hard fought freedom. Somewhat different than the Bolshevik use of the former Imperial naval ship Aurora to aid a coup against the only democratic government the Russian people ever had.

In the banner to their home page, the guys also have up the link to Gallup's methodology for determining likely voters, which involves seven questions in their survey. While the affiliation data is not indicated, the methodology seems plausible and reasonably thorough.

I can't just recall at the moment who's been calling it Romney by seven now for weeks (Tulk, The Phantom, marc, etc., or somebody equally august), but whichever one of you it's been, you've got to be pretty happy about the validation that this represents. But not any more happy than I am!

The IBD/TIPP thing discloses the affiliation bias (Dem 37, GOP 30) -- compare that to Rasmussen (GOP 37, Dem 33). So, average the two by cross adding and dividing the difference by two and you've got Obama +0.5, not +6 as they're trying to sell today.

I'd say we're all set (maybe even a little better than Mitt by 7). Victor has been pretty negative on the American electorate this cycle, so for him to post the comments he has is significant, IMO.

(US-Iran summit) from last evening: I had started a response, but gave up for lack of energy and interest, as the proposition is equal parts ludicrous and precisely what you would expect from a fiercely incompetent and mendacious politician grasping at straws to save himself. Who sends up trial balloons (ironic, don't you think, considering the song you selected as your intro on Friday evening?) on Iran two weeks before an election, anyway?

A few years ago I was in Boston on vacation and went aboard the Constitution in the Boston Navy Yard. Well worth the visit if you are down there. And yes, the ship is sea worthy and does occasionally go out into Boston Harbour. I don't think it goes far, but it does go out.

The Living Oceans Society obtained correspondence between the Old Massett village council, which is running the project, and the Northern Savings Credit Union, which lent the council $2.5 million to finance it. The documents were made available on the society’s website and show the lender was aware the ocean restoration project involved selling carbon credits.

“What is illegal, under international law, is dumping with the intent to obtain commercial gain,” said Living Ocean’s executive director Karen Wristen in a phone interview from Bowen Island.

“What’s very clear from the due diligence letter the bank sent back to the council, is they had been told the purpose of the project was to sell carbon credits.”"

I'm fully willing to concede that there are extremists on both sides of the political aisle. The thing is, I'm not one of them. But because my views tend to lean towards the right side of the spectrum, I am quickly dismissed by many on the Left as an extremist. Put another way, if one "dares" disagree with a Person of the Left on ANYTHING then it's usually not too long before the "Racist" card, "Bigot" card, "Homophobic" card, "Misogynist" card, "Islamaphobic" card, or "Hates the Poor" card comes out. Why do they do this? Because they don't actually want to debate anyone AND they don't view dissenters of their opinions as valid.

Reading through Gerald Caplan's rant against Rob Ford, this is made perfectly clear. For him to compare supporters of Rob Ford with supporters of Omar Khadr is sick to the extreme and yet another example of the false Moral Equivalency argument that the Left excels at.

So, while I have little in common with "extreme" people on the Right, I have yet to meet one who isn't willing to sit down and have an honest discussion with me about anything & everything. That quality is becoming more & more rare amongst so many on the Left.

In August, the National Urban League’s State of Black America 2012 report found that nearly all the economic gains that the black middle class made during the last 30 years have been wiped out by the economic downturn.

“This is a very dire situation,” said Valerie Rawlston Wilson, an economist with the National Urban League Policy Institute. “Even for blacks who have college degrees, we’ve seen a doubling of their unemployment (rate) between 2007 and 2010.”

They’re hurting. And if the adage is “you have my back I have yours”, its converse is “you shaft me, I shaft you”. It’s probably that simple. The root of President Obama’s current slide in the polls — some have him trailing by an increasing margin in the electoral college — isn’t from Mitt Romney’s scintillating debating skills. It’s not messaging, nor the quality of his ads. It’s not any of that “polypragmôn” stuff.

President Obama’s problem is simple. He has not produced. He is running against his record and his record is winning."
