Tonight we travel over to Persia and recall what Iran used to be like prior to 1979.

Your commemorative insights are most welcome, as always, in the comments.

Hmm...US calls in United Nations observers to monitor the election...

For voter suppression activities by Conservatives.

Sweet Jesus, what has happened to the USA?

Someone in the White House must be reading SDA.

The Administration now claims they do not have any deals with the Iranians for the prevention of nuclear enrichment.

Good!

Now Romney can debate foreign policy without any sucker punches.

Should have said,
without Obama throwing any sucker punches.

Re: Persia

Good video--thanks!! I do recall the events very well. However it could be some time into the future before things change.

To bad the muzzies turned into the a$$ hole of the earth !!!!! Or at least some kind of dirty orafice!!!

Are you an Irish parish priest who's managed to knock up his housekeeper? A Dublin party girl who's had it off with a Nigerian and needs to get rid of the evidence before her da finds out? An ambitious young man who has a broken condom standing between you and a new life and a better-looking woman in Australia?

Take heart! Ireland now has its first abortion clinic!

Marie Stopes, a British chain of "family planning" clinics, has opened a clinic in Belfast where the staff will hand out abortion pills to any Irishwoman who can cough up 350 pounds ($570) for them.

Marie Stopes claim they will strictly follow Northern Ireland's strict regulations on abortion. The plain people of Northern Ireland, Protestant and Catholic, claim Marie Stopes are a pack of shameless liars---as well they might, given that on their website they openly solicit the business of Irishwomen in trouble from both sides of the border. (Abortion's still illegal in the Republic.)

Northern Ireland's attorney general, John Larkin, has called for an investigation into the clinic's activities. Meanwhile, pro-life protesters from all over Ireland let Marie Stopes know on its opening day exactly what decent people think of them. Pray for John Larkin, pray for Ireland's pro-life movement and pray for Ireland's unborn.

David Frum has a very good article in the National Post today "Why Benghazi Matters." The issue makes it clear that Obama's Middle East Policy is in shambles. If a cover-up is proven and the reasons made clear, Obama is toast:

john g - I certainly didn't expect your link to have this:

United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week.

There's those radical conservatives causing trouble again. Members of the Tea Party I expect.

Once again, the Conservative demonstrates its hatred of property rights and embrace of economic xenophobia by blocking foreign investment.

I didn't realize that SEIU and ACORN were conservative groups.

Gingrich told Hanity yesterday that a friend joked, there are four men riding camels in the desert who don't know they are about to be blasted then blamed for the ambassadors death.
What other things can Obamagasim do to sway the vote?

thanks for the post Robert. In keeping with the theme, I can't help but wonder if George Clooney somehow acquired Bill Clinton's "Arkansas Toothpick" and used it to stab 'O' in the back. this close to the election. The Argo movie has shown America that 'O' is simply channelling JC (Jimmy Carter). At the end of the movie there is a platitude about bringing the hostages home safely by diplomatic means, I wonder if maybe Reagan had drawn a line in the sand much like Bibi has. We'll never know?

NOt that I trust polls, but with Egypts MUslim Broihrthood now saying Sharia Law was thier goal all along.....

3 part BBC series - Iran and the West - just starting to watch it. Links via original video at original Reader tips post. Still have to watch all.

I crossed Iran, overland, in 1963, (from Iraq heading towards Pakistan), and recall, having just crossed the waterway from Basra, Iraq, sitting having a beer in Abadan, Iran.

Some chadors were in evidence, but these appeared to be worn mainly by rural/tribal women selling nuts, spices, etc.

Things have not improved ~ 50 years later.

When I was a student at the University of Florida in the early 1970s, it had a substantial contingent of Iranian students, mostly in engineering, the hard sciences, and business. Among them were some of the most strikingly beautiful women I have ever seen, with raven tresses and burning coals for eyes, in many cases made all the more dramatic by fair skins. They had gracile bodies--I don't remember seeing a single overweight Iranian in all the time I was at the University--which they knew how to dress in smart, feminine clothes (contrasting favorably with the bleached flared jeans, tee-shirts, and flip-flops that the local lasses all seemed to wear, almost like school uniforms). The Iranian girls' demeanor matched their looks and dress, as they were saucy and sassy, without falling into the sluttishness embraced by too many of the locals.

What a shame that these beautiful and modern young women should have found themselves caught up in an Islamic revolution that would throw them back to the misogyny of the 8th century Middle East.

Carlos Perera makes a point I've been trying to make with my "Hot girls and bacon" posts on Fridays. Without the raving mullahs Iran is a modern country. Its a mistake to write off an entire population because their government is crazy.

LAS - Petronas isn't a "company" its a branch of the Malaysian government. To this conservative there is no room for government "companies" in Canada whether they are foreign or domestic. Especially foreign. If it was a foreign company, owned by free people who did not have the coercive power of a state to back them up, me and many other conservatives probably wouldn't have a problem with it.

Could the Obama campaign be allowing illegal contributions from foreigners, without even checking their addresses, their citizenship, or their IP addresses?

Dubious donations: A case study

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2012/10/dubious-donations-a-case-study-2.php

In September, Obama’s campaign took in more than $2 million from donors who provided no ZIP code or incomplete ZIP codes, according to data posted on the Federal Election Commission Web site.

Chris Walker, a British citizen who lives outside London, told The Post he was able to make two $5 donations to President Obama’s campaign this month through its Web site while a similar attempt to give Mitt Romney cash was rejected. It is illegal to knowingly solicit or accept money from foreign citizens.

Walker said he used his actual street address in England but entered Arkansas as his state with the Schenectady, NY, ZIP code of 12345.

“When I did Romney’s, the payment got rejected on the grounds that the address on the card did not match the address that I entered,” he said. “Romney’s Web site wanted the code from the back of card. Barack Obama’s didn’t.”

Who do Americans want as their president: A man who honours the laws of his country or a cheating scam artist with no regard for his country's laws?

To this conservative there is no room for government "companies" in Canada whether they are foreign or domestic. Especially foreign.

Conservatives: sacrificing your property for xenophobia since 2010. Now made extra hilarious by their unwillingness to privatize federal crown corporations.

Pst: BHP was not state-owned. The Conservatives just really like nationalism. Turns out they kind of are the fascists their opponents said they'd be.

"On the Taliban shooting of Malala Yousafza: Pakistani human rights activists need to stop believing in American fairy tales"

"Subhas Chandra Bose"

"So while I do think Hillary Clinton has betrayed her country, she's not the one who thought up the fairy tale that with enough education, fair elections and peaceful civil rights protests this world can become a paradise for democracy.

The teachings of the American democracy activist Gene Sharp and his handbook of nonviolent protest went a long way to cement the fairy tale as actual fact in the popular imagination. This, despite the fact that NOT ONE SINGLE AUTHORITARIAN REGIME HAS EVER BEEN OUSTED USING NONVIOLENT TACTICS WITHOUT TACIT OR OVERT COOPERATION FROM THE COUNTRY'S MILITARY AND/OR POLICE. Anyone who says differently is lying or misinformed.

I'm going to repeat this for the benefit of 11 year-olds and all those democracy activists who've confused reality with Tinker Bell.

NOT ONE SINGLE AUTHORITARIAN REGIME HAS EVER BEEN OUSTED USING NONVIOLENT TACTICS WITHOUT TACIT OR OVERT COOPERATION FROM THE COUNTRY'S MILITARY AND/OR POLICE.

ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU DIFFERENTLY IS LYING OR MISINFORMED.

Not only that, all of the successful "color revolutions" using nonviolent tactics from the Gene Sharp playbook were backed with money and tactical support from American and West European governments."

LAS - I am not a member of the government or any political party. I have no control over what the government does. Sometimes a little xenophobia is a good idea. History is littered with examples of people who were not xenophobic and now don't exist.

If everyone in Canada sold their property to a foreign government, there wouldn't be a Canada any more would there?

Thank-you for that clarification minuteman. LAS does not seem to understand that state ownership is not a private thing - property rights are certainly not in the debate when Communist guments are involved - the Commies don't believe in anything private and rights are not in their vocabulary - they are all about taking away both.

Got it. You hate commies more than you love the private property rights of people dealing with those regimes.

If everyone in Canada sold their property to a foreign government, there wouldn't be a Canada any more would there?

Uh...yes there would be. The land would be owned by foreign entity and governed by the government of sovereign Canada.

LAS - If you believe that you are truly deluded and I don't think there is anything I could say to change your mind. I do recommend however that you should maybe read a few history books.

"Europe's wine grape harvest is suffering and, in key regions this year, the harvest will be the smallest in half a century, vintners say.

Two of the countries well-known for producing wine, France and Italy, are expected to be especially hard hit. A combination of drought, frost and hail have damaged both the grapes and the grapevines earlier this year."

Robert, that was pathetic and sad.

Heading for the abyss.

According to Reuters (of the Green Helmet story) it was Romney's botched Libya moment in the last debate...he apparently mis-fired.
