The early and not completely official results are in from Venezuela, freedom lost.

It appears that Hugo Chavez will only leave office after he's dead.

That will make things difficult with harper and romney looking to gain a monopoly on freedom and democracy! although no one owns freedom or demoracy as it is an inailienable right of all humans!!

Re: Marathon!

Where have all the Aryans gone??

They stopped having kids in the seventies, so they could have cars, boats, fifth wheels, cabins, vacations, dogs, you name it, not to mention promoting abortions. Having fewer kids, or no kids, and having kids later in life so they can "live life to the fullest"

That's where al the aryans have gone. People are choosing not to have them , or to kill them before they are even in existence , or having them later......liberalism is a q,Antalya disorder!!!

A couple of nights ago I posted some thoughts in the reader tips and included the comment that the immediate future will be tough for all of us and was accused of being a whiner. Tonight on zerohedge an observation about Swiss preparation is noted:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2012-10-07/guest-post-do-swiss-know-something-rest-us-dont

This is the sort of thing I was referring to. My comment was a broader than just the immediate future of Canadians. We in Canada are in a much better position than most others in the world. Unfortunately, events may unfold that we are not prepared for. As an urban planner, we play with numbers and make assumptions about future net migrations. However, none of our models have considered scenarios where millions of Europeans see a Steynian nightmare in their own streets and decide Canada would be their destination of choice. Sorry for the cliches, but it is a bad world out there right now that could get a lot worse, quickly.

If you were in the EU and all h*ll broke loose, where would you look to for safe haven?

Robert, the video appears to be recorded through a tilt and shift lens, though not at its limits?

More stories are being told concerning Mitt Romney's personal character, see if you can spot the difference between him and B. Hussien:

An optimist would say that Canada would benefit from the increased European immigration, much like what occurred last century. I rather think that the average European does not possess the same work ethic as they did a hundred years ago. But then, neither do we.

marc in calgary @ 10:47, I think we expected that result.

Marc, I don't know the technical details of how the video was shot but I do know that the "Tilt & Shift" effect, which makes the subjects look like miniatures, can be added after the fact through computer processing.

Gus - Here in Dalton's Ontario, we live now under Provincial allocation of development lands under the fiat of the Growth Plan (at least in the Greater Golden Horseshoe). We already have to deal with constant in-migration, but every local government must conform to what Dalton's "forecasts" tell us we must plan for.

There are no contingency plans for dealing with the world that Steyn warned us about in America Alone. Will you open your doors to people deciding at the same time as millions of others to flee from the "Paris youths" that could rise up across the EU?

My ancestors came to Canada generations ago too for the opportunity for a better life. What I am concerned about is something that the provincial "planners" have not included in their Smart Growth planning.

I know we are in better hands Federally if the sh*t hits the fan, but at the end of the day we would not be dealing with individuals deciding to move here because of the economic opportunities. Ontario is not ready for worst case scenarios.

I repeat my closing comment, if you were in the EU and all h*ll broke loose, where would you look to for safe haven? It would not just be the best and brightest yearning for the chance to start a small business, it would be millions fleeing for their lives.

PS Gus - my kids think I worry about mundane things like gravel pits and minor variances. I do not share all these geopolitical fears with them. I would prefer unicorns and pixie dust, but unfortunately I still think about plausible scenarios. It is 2 am and I should be asleep but unfortunately I am not asleep yet again.

You just knew they could not do it.

"Barack Obama - Narcissist or Merely Narcissistic?

Sam Vaknin, Ph.D. - 8/13/2008"

"The "small people", the "rank and file", the "loyal soldiers" of the narcissist - his flock, his nation, his employees - they pay the price. The disillusionment and disenchantment are agonizing. The process of reconstruction, of rising from the ashes, of overcoming the trauma of having been deceived, exploited and manipulated - is drawn-out. It is difficult to trust again, to have faith, to love, to be led, to collaborate. Feelings of shame and guilt engulf the erstwhile followers of the narcissist. This is his sole legacy: a massive post-traumatic stress disorder."

Michael Ramirez's Cartoon of the Day:

http://www.nationalreview.com/

Newt Gingrich on Sunday lit into President Barack Obama's first debate performance, saying that actor Clint Eastwood's empty chair monologue at the Republican National Convention may have been "symbolic."

"The job of the president is supposed to be to be competent and to be able to stand up for what he believes in and to be able to articulate what's wrong," Gingrich said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"Mitt Romney walked over him," Gingrich said. "The weird moment with Eastwood and an empty chair may turn out to be symbolic."

http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico-live/2012/10/newt-clint-eastwood-was-right-about-obama-137727.html?hp=l12

Not symbolic so much as prophetic.

(Or maybe Clint Eastwood has an observant eye and just had Oblahblah's number ...)

"At last: the Classic Brit Awards exposed as a sickening crime against classical music"

"Who are these people to purposefully try and convince the general public that Katherine Jenkins is a proper opera singer, that Russell Watson really could handle a week at Covent Garden, that Ludovico Einaudi belongs to the same world as Benjamin Britten, that André Rieu, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Andrea Bocelli are amongst the greatest classical musicians alive today? When did Mastercard give themselves the go ahead to, year on year, sponsor a conglomerate of people who are force feeding the musical equivalent of KFC down our throats?

I would, with a bucket of Xanax and an obliging shrink, be able to let this go if I felt it were a case simply of naiveté on behalf of the organisers, or indeed even of good intention."

Apparently it is illegal for foreigners to give money or anything else of value- including volunteering their time to a campaign - to influence a US election.

Marc in calgary, ya gotta LOVE this gushy intro to the Chavez election victory, via AP: "Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez put to rest any doubts about his masterful political touch in winning a third consecutive six-year term..."

Your right to resell your own stuff is in peril

That’s being challenged now for products that are made abroad, and if the Supreme Court upholds an appellate court ruling, it would mean that the copyright holders of anything you own that has been made in China, Japan or Europe, for example, would have to give you permission to sell it.

ENJOY!

Hey rev ...have fun trying to enforce that draconian infinatly retarded law!!

They are just trying to justify thier exsistence/job!!

P.S. What a stupid man Obama is. Re his smarmy shout out to Michelle at the debate, he made three ridiculous assertions in well under a minute:

Obama said that, among the other important things he’d be commenting on in the debate, “the most important” was that “on October 3rd 20 years ago, Michelle Obama agreed to be my wife”. DUH?

1) This was the most important thing he had to say? (Forget the safety and prosperity of the USA and the world!)

2) Presumably, Michelle was Michelle Robinson when she agreed to be his wife.

3) If, on their 20th anniversary, she “agreed to be my wife”, they must have been engaged and married on the same day.

This man is too stupid for words!

Edit (see above):

3) If, as Obama inferred, their 20th anniversary was celebrating that Michelle “agreed to be my wife”, they must have been engaged and married on the same day.

But no edit on this: this man is too stupid for words!

lookout - I'm sick of the pair of them and their endless attempts to insist that people give a cr@p about their phoney-baloney personal lives. One nice thing about Bush was that he wasn't blathering on about going on dates with Laura all the time. I'm betting Michelle dumps him after he's out of office anyway.

I have known a small handfull of narcissistic individuals, and they really do believe everyone is obsessed with them. In Barry's case a lot of people actually are, which I suspect might be driving him insane.

"Jobs Blow Away as Congress Fails to Act on Wind Energy"

"Leeco Steel LLC’s fortunes rose even during the Great Recession thanks to a single customer: the burgeoning U.S. wind-energy industry.

Leeco had 50 employees when it started selling 7 ton steel plates to wind-tower makers in 2004. It now has 125, and wind accounts for about 40 percent of the Lisle, Illinois-based company’s business.

“We’ve done extremely well,” John Purcell, Leeco’s vice president for wind energy, said in an interview. Leeco is a unit of O’Neal Industries, a metals-service company based in Birmingham, Alabama.

Now a different sort of economic crisis is looming over the industry. A tax credit fueling wind’s growth expires at the end of this year unless Congress votes to extend it. Wind-energy companies get 2.2 cents for every kilowatt-hour produced, shaving as much as one-third off the costs.

Fearing the loss of a subsidy that helps them compete with cheaper natural gas, some wind
companies including a U.S. unit of Siemens AG (SIE) are already cutting jobs, adding urgency to a lobbying push in Washington. Since July, about 2,000 jobs have been shed by wind developers and suppliers, according to IHS Emerging Energy Research, a unit of IHS Inc. (IHS), based in Englewood, Colorado.

“I am watching my customers laying off folks all across the country,” Purcell told a House energy panel last month. “And I won’t be providing steel plates to any of those factories again.”"

Collectivism vs the Individual. 'The left' and 'the right', in political speak describe collectives - abstractions- (groups); Individuals are singular and concrete. Individuals who founded the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights did so in the belief that an individual is the sole owner of his/her own life and that all decisions related to his life here and in the hereafter are that individuals' responsibility. Key word is responsibility.

"Rampant recycling fraud is draining California cash"

"Fraud rings bring cans and bottles from other states and illicitly 'redeem' deposits that were never paid. And some private recycling centers might claim bigger reimbursements than they deserve."

"Just over 8.5 billion recyclable cans were sold in California last year. The number redeemed for a nickel under California's recycling law: 8.3 billion.

That's a return rate of nearly 100%.

That kind of success isn't just impressive, it's unbelievable. But the recycling rate for certain plastic containers was even higher: 104%."
