Yep, unemployment and underemployment are decidedly corrosive to the well being of the family.

Powerful ad. No words necessary.

I hope Americans know what to do at the polls in November.

Federal government fails to meet deficit target: http://business.financialpost.com/2012/10/05/federal-deficit-comes-in-1-3-billion-higher-than-estimated/

Totally unexpected unless you're the Fraser Institute. http://www.fraserinstitute.org/uploadedFiles/fraser-ca/Content/research-news/research/publications/fraserforum-may-june-2012.pdf

Or anybody with an understanding of maths and a functioning cortex.

Weird Japanese summary of last debate. Don't watch if you're a fan of Big Bird.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNhUI8ktHuw&feature=player_embedded

No funnies tonight.

Or, as Monty's Mr. Hilter might say "Not much fun in Stalingrad. No."

The debate on Wednesday may have been the Paul Martin moment for the USA when they realize their guy is a mumbling, stumbling empty suit (aka chair). Recall how we put up with the media narrative that Paul Martin was the second coming for our country. There may be signs that some of the media have realized the hoax. The next couple of weeks are vital. Luckily, the next debate is between Ryan and Biden.

We have been watching the series "24" recently. Season 4, ep 20 shows a completely unqualified putz stepping during a crisis. Must see TV for anyone who thinks the VP is irrelevant. VP Logan is in way over his head, and former Pres Palmer is G Dub dealing with reality. I only hope the US voters look at Biden and realize how quickly things can go horribly wrong.

The immediate future will be tough for all of us, and we can only hope that there is change in the USA instead of more "hope and change". The world needs an American leader who is not an empty chair.

PS - love the slow realization that Clint was bang on in his RNC commentary.

Clint did a very good-almost uncannily good-job of setting up the 'bad' version of Obama people did not see...and Obama fulfilled every detail of that set up.

Observations of the ad.

A: Plates are full--lots of food.
B: He should shave. A lot of women are repulsed by poor hygiene.
C: Poor communications—eventual breakdown in relationships.
D: Stop blaming the government for your woes--take responsibility for your actions--cheer up.
E: Stop buying "made in China."
F: If all else fails--move to Saskatchewan.

The only thing missing was the Sheriff with the eviction notice. In recessions of past it was just a matter of re startng idle factories when things started to turn around. Now the factories are in other countries. I hope Romney can bring in enough incentives to reverse 20 years of outsourcing. No matter how you slice it, a country can not shut down thousands of factories, large and small, put millions of workers out of a job and then expect life to go on as it was with a decimated middle class tax base. All those taxpayers become instant liabilities and the strain on the social safety net will drive the State and Federal deficit through the roof. Nor can we compete with labor costs of $1.00 per hour in other countries. It's a mess that will take decades to straighten out.

Sadly that ad will be lost on hipster leftists who will be more focuses on why the family isn't eating tofu and drinking soy milk lattes while texting away on their Iphone 5

The next presidential debate:

The second presidential debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which citizens will ask questions of the candidates on foreign and domestic issues. The town meeting participants will be undecided voters selected by the Gallup Organization.

Maz2- I didn't read the article, but as someone in the nuclear business I feel a bit qualified to respond. The nuclear plant that quebec will close 30 years old and shut down for a mid life upgrade. The mid life upgrade would cost at least twice what the decommissioning should cost, and assuming Hydro Quebec works the same way that Ontario Power Generation does, there will be money in the decommissioning account set aside since the place was built to pay for the eventual cost of decommissioning. So, decommissioning should have been budgeted for what was going to happen at some point in the plant's life anyway.

Back in the 60's Quebec planned to build 30 odd nuclear plants, but then went big into hydro electric so they only ever built one. As much as I am a proponent of nuclear power (it feeds my family) it is second best to hydro electric if you have the water resources, which Quebec does. This is a totally rational decision, even if the PQ is doing it for the wrong reasons.

Not the best way to look at life.

Should be more positive for tomorow.

Any farmer/ rancher thinking of voting democrat ought to pick his 6 favorite acres now, when they collectivize the farms the "kind" state might give each farmer 6 acres of their own. In the Ukraine I read the average farmer before communism owned around 2 sections, after the Russian commies took over the land they gave each farmer 6 acres of their own, guess where the most food was grown on those farms by the farmers. Powerful ad, food involved.

Economic malaise ? Let's top it with higher electricity costs .

In some ways Paul Martin got a bad rap in Canada. He took the heat for balancing the budget (yes times were better)when all howled around him. Yes the IMF had laid the law down but compared to Euroland today Canada was the picture of health. Just goes to show how perceptions can change from then to now

Very dissapointed that the Canadian deficit increased in the last quarter. I have faith in PMSH but do not trust politicans as a rule. I am sure his cabinet has the requisit number of freeloaders and carpetbaggers as is the norm.

"Newspaper journalism is in crisis. What has been lost and what can be saved?"

"The press is threatened by scandals, the web and declining sales. The director of Enquirer, a brilliant play about the industry, offers a passionate defence of its values"

"There were always two newspapers in the house where I grew up: they sat on the arm of the sofa, waiting to be picked up and whistled over and argued with, and for us they captured the world of other people. They were the Huddersfield Daily Examiner and the Sunday People, papers my mum and dad still read. We weren't a broadsheet type of family. I suppose we were a little proud of that fact, just in the way that northern families tend to be proud of who they are (and who they aren't).

When I was about 13, I had a paper round and that gave me a more tangible reason for hating posh papers: they were much heavier, adding something vengeful to my Sunday morning hike.

When I moved to Glasgow to start university, I fell in love with newspapers."

Kraft Dinner in the plates would have made this ad better

Is that picture supposed to depict hardship? Nicely furnished room with a highly polished dining table, lots of food on the table (although no turkey, so I suppose that's the hardship). That family is comfortable middle class.
