Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Juxtaposition:
Brooks Alberta July 14 2005
“Yet this racially integrated workforce showed that by using the power of solid picket lines it could bring the multinational giant Tyson to its knees. Lakeside’s 2,300 workers, a majority of whom are refugees and immigrants from Sudan, Somalia and Nigeria, are at the nexus of Canada’s multi-billion dollar beef industry, processing 40 percent of Canada’s cattle
“Labour: Fight for Full Citizenship Rights for All Immigrants!
The UFCW reports that the violent attacks on the picket lines came complete with racist taunts, while many suspect the company of attempting to inflame racial divisions within the workforce to bust the unionization drive—a typical scheme among employers in this country. Assuming that this was nothing but a disposable, pliant workforce, Tyson lured these immigrants in the first place to work in hellish conditions in the middle of redneck, small-town Alberta. But the unity of the picket line—which also included many white workers, and had a notable proportion of women—enabled the Lakeside workers to overcome some of these divisions, serving as a model for workers throughout the country.”

Brooks Alberta Oct 04 2012
“The firm’s packing plant in Brooks was shut down by federal officials a week ago and will not be allowed to reopen until the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is satisfied it is safe. Carcasses that were in the plant when its licence was suspended are being tested for E. coli and discussions are taking place between the agency and the company to determine what to do with other products on the premises.”

Elizabeth Warren? Not a Cherokee. But her white great-grandfather shot an Indian, so that ought to count for something.
Thanks for that youtube vid... I laughed so hard I had to blow my nose.
The falling Obama game:
http://media.y8.com/system/contents/13365/original/Falling_Obama.swf
Catching up with some podcasts --just watched the National's At Issue Episode 2 from last week, and they played Justin Trudeau's 'Am I a separatist' rant. I'd just watched Ezra Levant play the same clip (the one where the reporter yells 'come on..!' as Trudeau storms away). Funny, but you could just barely make it out when the CBC played the exact same clip.
Juxtaposition currently up on Drudge: Headline below post-debate pic of the Obamas and Romney on stage says: "SKYFALL". Left column features pic of singer Adele, and links to two stories re her latest - James Bond theme song called..."Skyfall". Link titled "A song for the ages" goes to the YouTube video with lyrics. I laughed - not as hard as I laughed at Kate's vid, but just imagine Obama singing this to the media - it's perfect.

Re: Voice recognition.
Same tecnology as phoning information and having the recorded message saying: "Please say "business" or "residence."
Then the real person comes on and they can`t see why you`re upset.
So I just got back from this business trip and I haven't seen a thing on TV and I just wanted to celebrate closing a big deal where I acquired sole ownership of Barack Obama Debating Schools Inc and I really think it's the biggest opportunity since that Solyndra thing ...
(it's a joke)
Would the tainted meat be an act of terrorism?
How could so much meat be contaminated without there being gross negligence according to the plant inspection policies, which would be literally life and death to a food processing facility, not being followed to the letter of the law? And why now?
If I were a betting man, I would put dollars to donuts that this would be the Muslim population reeking havoc on the Western population as either payback or to cause a massive disruption in the infidels food. (Did I say that with my outside voice?)
Re: Tainted beef as an act of terrorism!
No proof of that exists.
Just watched the debate. As Ace commenter Dave in Fla observes, "You gave 50 years worth of oil subsidies to failed green energy companies in one year" was a particulary effective line; esp. as Romney went on to point out that an awful lot of those companies "happened" to be Obama donors.
I'm too superstitious to begin celebrating yet, but that debate was a thing of beauty.
Jerusalem Post, Friday, Oct. 5, from my Vista sidebar.
http://www.jpost.com/Headlines/Article.aspx?id=286746
"Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said on Thursday his comment on a secretly taped video in which he disparaged 47 percent of voters as dependent on government 'was just completely wrong,' as he attempted to repair the damage from the controversy."
Not completely wrong, not at all.
There is an old line in conservative thought which argues that when the majority can vote themselves the resources of a productive minority, then the nation will grind to a halt. In theory it's plausible, but it's not necessarily going to happen.
The fear is that people prefer living off others rather than being productive. Many conservatives, especially those of a religious Original Sin background, think people are basically evil and that many would indeed fall into this trap.
In fact, there is a wide continuum of individuals' attitudes on this matter. A few are chronically dependent (likely through a mental illness of some sort), a few are go-getters, and the vast majority lie somewhere in between - perhaps they'll take what they can get, for a while, but ultimately they want get back on their own two feet. Pride in oneself, and one's ability to support oneself, is a strong motivator. Unfortunately religious attitudes toward pride are often negative too; this is part if their misperception of humanity.
Romney should never have assumed that there is a massive bloc of 47% of the electorate that will vote Obama come hell or high water because their only goal is to retain a subsidized way of life. He should accept that many within this group are capable and willing to be self-supportive - but government policies, fostered by the left and ostensibly to benefit the populace, have in reality made it increasingly difficult for the average person over the years.
The Republicans should advocate streamlining the tax system, and deregulating the economy as much as possible (I generally advocate caution on banking and the environment, and probably on safety too). It's not necessary to look to chop every handout program right away - free the economy, let it get rolling, and most of the supposedly dependent people will respond in a positive way, and get back to work. What should be scrapped immediately are grants and subsidies to "activist groups", who are the true parasites. Canada is plagued with this kind of state-supported activism; I'm not sure how widespread it is in the United States.
Without a doubt the Leftard Industrial Complex will be all over this immediately.
Spare no tree, huge screaming headlines, every 24 hour cable news talking head to the digital ramparts!
One of the core sacred pillars of leftardism is under attack!!

crickets...
How could so much meat be contaminated...
Truth is, not much meat was actually contaminated. However the opposition and the Cdn. MSM seized this opportunity to further their Harper-bashing, anti-Alberta agenda. As a result, tons of good food will be wasted to advance the leftard's political agenda.
Toronto Star, Saturday, Sep. 29. Another in a long line of thoughtless columns from David Olive:
http://www.thestar.com/business/article/1263771--central-banks-expanding-their-reach
"We’re at the dawn of a revolution in central banking, in which the likes of the Bank of Canada, the U.S. Federal Reserve Board, and eventually the European Central Bank (ECB) will exert more influence over the global economy than government, business or consumers."
"It’s a quiet revolution. And it’s the inevitable consequence of our currently difficult times."
Absolutely false. Our "currently difficult times" are fully and completely the result of government actions to intervene in the economy, in all western nations. The correct, and indeed only, solution to the problem is to remove the interventions that caused it.
The "economy" is the name given to the total of all acts of voluntary trade between individuals (which includes businesses for this purpose) for mutual benefit, based on the individuals' judgment of the relative value of the items available for trade (including currency). For a business, the benefit shows up as profit; for the consumer, it shows up as a higher standard of living via obtaining more or cheaper or better goods and services.
Government is the only institution in society that is allowed to use coercion, which it is supposed to use only as a retaliatory measure where necessary. But a productive economy relies on the free judgments of individuals. Therefore there is no place for government intervention in the economy.
A central bank is a creation of government, and one that also functions in a coercive manner. It may do what would be considered a decent job some of the time, or even a lot of the time. But as with any coercive institution there is always a temptation to expand its scope, and a tendency of its staff to overestimate their own abilities and their incidence of success.
The left is always trying to get economic decision-making out of the hands of individuals where it belongs, and into the paws of government, because they want to seize the power of the latter. Clueless columns like Olive's play into their hands.
He concludes by referring to "[U. S. Fed chief Ben] Bernanke, father of a new and smarter approach to economic management".
Wrong. There is no such thing as "economic management". Every individual has the right and the power to manage his own economic decisions, without government interference. That is the only foundation from which a productive economy can arise.
It's silly season in America again.
Keep it in the correct perspective:

Here's a something for all you conspiracy theorists to chew on. If the gas companies wanted to fix prices at the pump, what better way to do it other than by having the next days price broadcast across every news network and radio station under the guise of consumer advocacy?
Lets say they use some ex MP as their talking head to give it legitimacy?
Of course if none of the media ever questioned the talking head where he got his info, no one would be the wiser.

Remember Chiquita?
They have replaced CEO Fernando Aguirre, after the company reported its second-quarter earnings fell 4 percent compared with a year ago, and profits plunged 92 percent compared with the same quarter last year. The company’s banana sales were hurt in part by declining demand in Europe.
No mention of the anti-oil sands campaign.
Aguirre’s transition agreement with the company specified that he would remain employed as a consultant with Chiquita for 12 months after the new CEO was found, earning $40,000 a month. His employment agreement shows he could also be eligible for a $4.7 million severance payment.

Electric car factories also emitted more toxic waste than conventional car factories, their report in the Journal of Industrial Ecology said."

"Relevance of CBC debated"
"Post Media columnist and CBC contributor Andrew Coyne argued the state broadcaster is no longer necessary in a multi-channel, digital universe and that all taxpayers are paying for something the majority don't watch or listen to.
Coyne told an overwhelmingly CBC-friendly crowd that today's viewers and listeners have a menu of pay-as-you-go options "to suit every taste, high or low, broad or narrow" that don't rely on scarce public funds.
"At a bare minimum, then, I would put the CBC on pay. It could still be a public broadcaster, but one funded by its audience, rather than taxpayers. If its viewers are as devoted as claimed, they should be happy to pay."

TSA to Implement Body Scanners that Instantly Know Everything About your Body
Because of the device’s portability and ease of use, it may even begin to show up at athletic events, movie theaters, traffic lights, and bus and train stations. While this may, for whatever reason, seem like a welcome sense of security to some, it’s a blatant breach of the Fourth Amendment to our Constitution which protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures.
