Any physician worth his salt will tell you that it's physically impossible to have the blues while doing the Mambo, but that it is possible to play the Mambo Blues.

British blogger Mick Hartley excerpts from a paywalled column/article at the Sunday Times column/article on, in Hartley's words, "the West's weakening defence of free speech."

Four years ago Harry Taylor walked into Liverpool John Lennon airport and left “anti-religious” cartoons — some from Private Eye — in the multi-faith prayer room. He was handed a six-month suspended prison term for causing distress. The prosecutor in that case told the jury: “You are 12 tolerant British people who know what freedom of speech is all about.” In the event, it turns out they didn’t have the slightest idea of the concept.

A more substantial chunk of the excerpt here.

“We are going to be gifted with a health care plan that we are forced to purchase, and fined if we don’t,” Bellar continues, “signed by a president who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that’s broke.” A former nun, an Army major, a lawyer, a college professor and a physician

Needless to say, no Conservative related comments are being published at CBC.Ca--AKA Just-in's propaganda machine. Assuming of course that "Please--if you love Canada--don't support Trudeau" is derogatory.

That was nice, but shirley it was jazz?

(They called Billie Holiday's biopic - and I know it was an album too - "Lady Sings the Blues". But unless I'm missing something, she sang jazz. She had a bluesy vibe, but that's something else.)

Mention of Mambo always makes me think of that old John Candy SCTV skit where he plays some sort of weird dance instructor doing a TV ad.*

He goes on at some length about how the world's a mess and how there's sweet-diddly you can do about it all so there's only one thing to do: "Get up - and Mambo!"

* I've looked for it on YouTube to no avail.

Court finds some guy and the National Post owe the Free Dominion gang partial costs from their Federal Court copyright case.

No linky from me, no Sir - get your own.

Breaking news,CBC loves Omar.

Yesterday's 'ballot box' question;
" Do you think Omar Khadr is a threat to national security? "

The results.......OMG,the results aren't there.

To back up my disappearing ballot box question from above.

This link, you have to look into Kady's "inside politics blog". It is there.

The cbc is scrubbing and manipulating the news. We know it. Do something about it.

This should be adopted by Romney and put on billboards all over everywhere.

As I awoke this morning, I heard some great news on the radio about the future of the liberal party. It seems the party wants to re-connect with Canada's middle class and they're going to choose Justin Trudeau to lead them on this mission.

hahahahahahahahahaha

Fox news covering the Khadr story, coming up right away.

The most earth-shattering news I have heard in my lifetime:SOMEONE THREW BACON AND HAM AT A MOSQUE IN COQUITLAM!!!

The RCMP Hate Crimes Unit are investigating.

It's time to revisit the debate on capital punishment.

- EBD

This is very true, EBD. I'm genetically prone to melancholia/depression. 30 years ago I took up jogging and came to realize that it's hard to be blue while moving vigorously, and seemingly insurmountable problems often melt away after the warm down.

However, no Mambo for me unless with Black Mamba!

1. Mohammed's FAIL.

"Ticket to Ride"

"The New York Times suggests that cash is increasingly being preferred to insurance by doctors in Manhattan. The doctors want to avoid dealing with the insurance ‘caps’ that may be charged for procedures.

Efforts by insurers to rein in health care costs by holding down physician fees — especially for primary care doctors, who play a critical role in health care though they are among the lowest paid doctors — appear to be accelerating the trend, and some patients say it’s getting harder to find an in-network physician …

a new survey of 13,575 doctors from around the country by The Physicians Foundation found that over the next one to three years, more than 50 percent plan to take steps that reduce patient access to their services, and nearly 7 percent plan to switch to cash-only or concierge practices, in which patients pay an annual fee or retainer in addition to other fees."

rita - Candy was awesome. SCTV is always so damn funny. A belated nod to the belated Gore Vidal.

Me No Dhimmi - excercise for depression, yes. Works way better than booze. It's just that booze is so much less effort.

It's often said, and mainly true, that the majority Italians cheat on taxes. Less commonly discussed are the reasons why.

The Guardian - ‎46 minutes ago‎
The breast cancer awareness industry has become a multibillion dollar juggernaut spanning multiple continents, flooding them with a sea of pink ribbons and tie-in products intended to entice socially aware consumers."

"Lost U.K. decade in the offing? It’s already here"

Talk of a U.K. lost decade is rife. Ed Balls, the shadow chancellor, has joined with some independent economic commentators who warn that it’s coming unless the government changes course. The right response comes from the British Christmas pantomime: Look behind you! The lost decade’s right there.

The numbers tell the lost story. U.K. GDP has not advanced at all for six years. If the decade since 2002 has not been totally wasted, not much has been accomplished. GDP growth per person has been a meagre 0.5 per cent per year. The year for useful decennial warnings was 2002. Pity they didn’t see it coming."

Hello Kate;

Something that is developing nicely: The JustIn Truedopia MSMMania. I see that the Robo Call Hounds have been distracted by the shiny Montreal Squirrel: http://www.montrealgazette.com/technology/Justin+Trudeau+will+wild+card+race+next+prime+minister/7334538/story.html . They have declared him Canada's O' Bamah and they say, like that Southern Prophet, people "that people know who he is and like him". He won't have to answer questions because they just like him too much -- he's their eye candy.

Great fun on the 25th anniversary reunion of the cast of The Princess Bride:

There's one scene where Inigo Montoya -- Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die -- actually misquotes his father's name:

"I swear on the soul of my father, Domingo Montoya, you will reach the top alive" (at the 27-second mark):

Speaking of anniversaries, today is Obama and Michelle's twentieth. He called her. How romantic.

Traditionally, china is the gift to give.Unfortunately this year, China owns them. Perhaps you can celebrate their lasting love by donating to the campaign.
